Thing is a totally unreliable piece of shit and can't make it past a few rounds without jamming. Bought the $150 proprietary heavy buffer and it only created different issues.
I think it might be the cheap PSA bolt, so I might replace that with a more quality one based off a convo I had on the AK files with someone who also had a 9mm SBR with the same stock.

I'd like to build a longer barreled upper for it. The 5.5 looks awesome, but is a little short. I think maybe an 8.5 with a dot would be about perfect.

Can some help me out here? My next toy is going to be a 9mm carbine but idk where to really start.
Anyone got a parts list for a budget build and another for a God tier build? I just want something reliable I can throw in a trunk or next to my bed and won't need sports after a couple rounds.

PSA AR9 has been 100% reliable. Nitride barrel so will take a while to shoot out.

Can go pistol or carbine route. Went 16 inch to take advantage of velocity while using my glock mags. Will get the same (or slightly more) energy as .357 magnum from a 6 barrel.

PSA hybrid. A guy I talked to on the AKfiles had similar issues that were only solved by switching BCGs, so I'm going to look for a dedicated Colt pattern BCG that hopefully doesn't cost a gorillion bucks.

How would sub gun ammo run in an AR9? Seems like the platform could handle the pressure, especially with the option of heavier springs and buffers.

Yeah I've looked at that. The PSA one also has good reviews, but I think if I want to try and correct my issues, I'll buy a bolt from one of the high quality manufacturers, like CQ10. The ability to take Glock mags is irrelevant to me since I have a Colt pattern lower. I also think having a dedicated Colt bolt will help reduce some of my issues.

I have a 5.5 on mine, but I believe a little longer would be better. The short hansguard makes it a little awkward to shoot IMO, and the center of balance is like right in the middle of the receiver, so there is actually a lot of muzzle rise when that heavy bolt slams back. I would do 8-12", because it's still a handy size, and 9mm gets a pretty decent velocity boost from that. I think around 12" is where you reach diminishing returns and the friction of the barrel starts slowing the bullet down. I plan on building an 8.3" upper for my SBR using a ballistic advantage barrel here pretty soon.

I have 3. One glock style, one colt style and one Olympic arms style. Olympic then glock then colt for reliability. Colt still runs well, but the Olympic eats the shittiest 9mm ever. I'll never understand why they lost the battle for 9mm conversions. Probably the mags
