one buckshot pellet is the equivalent of a 22lr bullet?
>>
More like a .32
>>
>>34639856

depends, 000 buck is compared to 9mm often

/thread
>>
>>34639875
That comparison is made but is probably not fair. Buck doesn't quite have 9mm juice.
>>
which caliber you dumb fuck?
>>
>>34639875
Very true, it usually takes about 8 9mms on target to equal 1 blast of 000 buck on target.
>>
>>34639864
Caliber wise, but .32s don't typically launch at 1300 fps...
>>
A rule of thumb with 00 buckshot is that it takes three pellets to incapacitate. One round of 00 buck is about as effective as eight or nine .32s or .380s.
>>
>>34639856
Depends on the buckshot.
#4 and #00 are no the same thing, not to mention varying shell lengths.
>>
>>34639864

>>34641719
Why do people bother with anything else?
>>
>>34643853
The quest for best performance. We should take any advantage we can get rather than just riding the band wagon. If something else is better, even a little, it's worth checking out.
>>
>>34643853
Capacity and recoil.
>>
1300+ fps 00 buck is some peppy shit

and there's 9 of them

not even sure if you need a more powerful 3in shell for HD, but why not right?
>>
>>34643853

#4 buck is great for coyote and other varmints. It's about 22 cal but you can put a lot more in a shot making it more likely to hit. There's a reason people choose 00 for people though
>>
>>34644008

Why 3" when 3 1/2" = 18 00 buck
>>
>>34639856
I've heard it compared to .38spl more than anything.
>>
>>34644008
>not even sure if you need a more powerful 3in shell for HD, but why not right?
Depends on where you hit.
A 22LR to the brain, CNS or hart and it is game over.
>>
>>34644056
>3 1/2"
what pump shotguns would be suited to that?
>>
>>34639864
>>34641427
Yup, it's a .32 with more power.
My 32acp launches at more like 900fps IIRC.

Mossberg 835 and 935 off the top of my head but other brands have their own too. 3 1/2" has kind of killed 10 gauge, I can't even find 10 in my state in most places anymore
>>
>>34644078

I know my 835 works with everything from 2 3/4 - up. Haven't tried shorter, it's just a beefed up 500. It can hold 4+1 3 1/2" or more than that of shorter. I remove varmints at around 70 cents a shell of 3 1/2" BB-#4 steel shot because it's cool. Feels great knocking birds out of trees at 70 yards and goring anything inside the size of a rabbit within 10
>>
>>34644099
The 2 top pistols look like shit.
>>
>>34639856
from childhood I have always heard 00 buck compared to 38 because its slow, but with 32 sized lead.
>>
>>34644099
10 gauge 00 buck has 18 pellets at 1200 fps and 3 and a half inch 00 buck has 18 pellets at 1200 fps. I have an ithaca mag 10 and I want it to out perform 12 gauges when it comes to power. What ammo do I buy?
>>
0-10

+1 got me to reply

It's pretty fucking close, due to the velocity difference (000 buck is almost always quite a bit faster). It would be closer to .380 though.

Some quick math here:
>9mm, 124gr @ 1150fps (NATO load from a 5" barreled pistol) produces 364 FPE
>000 buck, 70gr pellet @ 1325fps (Federal Power Shok 2.75" shell) produces 273 FPE
No, neither one of those are particularly high velocity loads, it's possible to drive a 124gr 9x19 to over 1350fps (9mm Major loads) and it's possible to drive 000 buck to over 1550fps (magnum bearfucker loads from an assortment of manufacturers).

Since you can drive 0000 buck to the same velocities that would be a much closer comparison to 9mm. 82gr per pellet with it.

I don't know mate, I'll look into it since I'm bored, so you know the max chamber length? It should be written on the barrel.

Don't think 10 gauge is obsolete by the way, it has a few advantages when it comes to shot diversity and I think you can get heavier shot loads for it without too much difficulty. I think you need a separate choke on 3 1/2" gun to be able to shoot T shot for example

Can't find anything with significantly more power in my quick search but you can make a 5" wide hole in someone's chest with nothing but some hamburger meat on the floor inside of 15 yards using heavishot BBB 1.5 ounce at 1500 fps (3200 ft/lb) which is a little better than what 12 gauge can do. Penetration will diminish fairly quickly past that distance though especially since it's not led. It's actually similar to what I keep it loaded with only I use BB, nearly as much energy as a 300 win mag but it's dumping all of it into a target. If you handloads shells you could get more out of the gun, I'm a big supporter of #4 buck which I'm sure you could fit more of into a 10 gauge shell.
