I'm strongly considering an A1 as my next build. What are some thoughts on the weapon in general? I'd like to incorporate Vietnam era buttock, triangular front grip l, and pistol grip. Suggestions for a reliable dealer for surplus parts would be appreciated.

It's going to be difficult. Just buy an SP1 and fix the little problems with it. It might not even be too much more expensive than a 603 parts kit, at this point.
Thanks, Olt.

Brownells periodically gets a1 lowers and uppers in stock. Just have to keep checking.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I just want to add the little extra touch with period parts. I want the bastard to look like it came right out of the jungle.
This is a show piece more than anything.

where on this earth did you find an upper with a fixed carry handle

Ar15sport's complete uppers are good to go.
If your A1 build is anodized black, though, I'll join

and shit in your bed.
Order a lower now from Nodakspud, the wait list is months long.

30 round magazines were standard by like 1968.

I try not to spoon feed but make exceptions for a1s.

Nodak "Motherfucking" Spud for the lower.Or McKay if they actually get some in stock and you can't wait 6-9 months for the NDS.
You will be missing a few springs and detents from the parts kit.
Get a m7 bayonet.
>thoughts on the weapon in general
They are longer than modern carbines but the weight feels perfectly balanced with a 20 round mag. Very pleasant to wield and must have been amazing to carry around compared to an m14..
Not as practical as a modern flattop but you already know that.
The handguards will feel cheaper than you expect.
They are overpriced these days as parts kits have dried up.

I mostly use 20 rounders but have 30s and a ta31 on the carry handle and you can't stop me.
What's everyone's opinion on the pre-made Texas Machine Gun Company replicas?

Pig disgusting and all wrong. A2 lower, black anodizing, probably every little detail off.
It'd be okay if you wanted a vaguely retro blaster for $700, but at double the price? Fuck that, get an SP1, or a parts kit build.
