I have a Mossy 590a1 next to my bed but it's a 20inch model which I'm not really crazy about for home defense despite loving the gun. I have narrow hallways and the 590 is a beast with a 20 inch barrel.

I'm sending in a form 1 this week and when I finally get a stamp (probably a year from now) I'm going to put a 14 inch barrel on a rem 870 I have. I'll be giving up 3 rounds in terms of capacity but I think it's worth it plus if my wife ever needed to use it when I'm not home I think a SBS would be easier for her to handle.

Also, #4 buckshot is the way to go.

I've shot in the woods (handguns, shotguns, my AK, etc) without earpro for extended periods and experienced very mild hearing discomfort for a few hours after, but never any tinnitus.

I'd honestly be more worried about muzzle flash blinding your half-awake ass in a dark house than the noise of a gunshot.

Hearing loss is painless and preventable. But its effects (tinnitus) can range from mildy annoying to downright unbearable. Ask some of the anons on this board, some have been close to putting a gun in their mouth to make the ringing stop.

I leave my guns in the safest possible state in case someone in the house thinks theyre cool as fuck and goes to mess with my stuff. I have my J frame in my pocket at all times while I'm inside my house and a long gun with earpro in a room nearby. If the first 5 rounds as I'm moving to my long gun weren't enough to dissuade the person/persons, then I could finish the fight with that. Also I've theorized about a one-handed shooting method where I cover my ear on my nondominant side with my support hand and mash my dominant side ear against my dominant shoulder. It seems like a viable method of preserving my hearing if I have to get rounds off immediately. Anyone have any thoughts?

I have a Beretta CX4 in the corner of my room and I had a pair of earpro on the gun. I also have cameras and motion sensors all the way to the property so I'll know they're there before they know I'm in the house.
