Bullshit. Milsurp (or milspec) doesn't meet NIOSH standards. NIOSH Cap 1 standards are simply existing NIOSH standards with more time limits attached. Not more stringent time limits, just more limitations on exposures. The mask in the pic does meet those standards, which are printed on the packaging.

Here. Educate yourself:

Best place to buy surplus masks?
>>
>>34643626
>>34643653

Look at the NIOSH CBRN standard, then look at the NIOSH industrial standard that the half-mask is built to. Compare them, side-by-side. The difference is, the CBRN standard puts a hard limit on the number of hours a respirator can be used in a CBRN environment (2 for liquid contact, 8 for gas/vapor contact). Otherwise, the standards are identical (no IDLH atmospheres, no O2 deficient atmospheres, no unknown concentration atmospheres, max concentration allowed is 50X the PEL).

If you're in a CBRN environment, you're fucked anyhow unless you happen to have the rest of the protective gear plus the training, plus the necessary decon infrastructure.

>>

pretty much all american masks can take inserts for prescription lenses
just look it up dude.
>>
>>34646407
Mixing bleach and vinegar is a little different from weapons-grade (or industrial grade, for that matter) chlorine gas. The gas you made will still cause skin damage, it takes longer because it's a weaker concentration. For reference, the OSHA permissable exposure limit is 1 ppm averaged over 15 minutes. You can smell it at 0.1-0.3 ppm, it starts doing damage at 5 ppm.
>>
>>34646621
But how do you get the inserts made/ordered?
>>
>>34646835
You go to your optician, give him the inserts and get the lenses made.

Serious question, are the M13 series filters for the M17 mask even safe to use anymore, even if still in their original DOD wrappers? Have any been made since the late 80s? I really do want an M17A1 or A2 mask for my Gulf War collection, but I don't want to give myself lung cancer playing around with it, either.
>>
As a first time buyer, which one should i get? I guess whatever is current issue?
>>
>>34647304
Current issue is expensive.

Go with an M40 or MCU-2 for function and price
>>
>>34647331

Aren't M40s still technically current issue for a lot of units though? Notwithstanding, the M40 takes the NATO standard 40mm threaded filters, and there's plenty of options for brand new filters out there, even from commercial manufacturers like Scott, MSA, and 3M. That's your best bet.

You don't feel anything because of the local anaesthetic, or really see anything since you can't focus that close. The only notable thing is the burning smell which is apparently not actual burning.

The main downside is the recovery, which will take you a few days to a week. This is assuming you do PRK, naturally, because fuck LASIK and the risk of flap detachment.
>>

>>
>>34646506
I just bought one of the SGP civilian gas masks and I was able to wear my glasses with it
>>
>>34647437

Pretty sure the M17 takes just the M13 filters. The OM10 and other copies are close, but the filters aren't really compatible to my knowledge. I don't know of any third party that makes NEW filters for the M17 masks.
>>
>>34647246
I would err on the side of caution and just wear it without the filter if you want a halloween costume. I don't know if it'd be safe, and when it comes to gas mask filters, if I don't know I don't use it. The newer a filter is, the better. Also, though I hate being a shill, check out this guy's videos. He has a lot of good quality gas mask reviews and discussion on his channel.

Dont worry about the filter unless material is leaking out of it or it rattles when you shake it. Also, expired cartriges still make good particulate filters and they never become toxic unless they were used in an actual CBRN environment.

Pic related is probably more hazardous to your health than any non-fucked filter is.
