I got $15k for signing as infantry in 2008, and I seriously doubt my knees, ankles, back or wrists could pass the physical anymore.

I don't regret the experience, but I wouldn't even take a $40k re-up into a REMF MOS. Too much bullshit.

December 15th 2018 is the end of my initial service obligation (officer here), and I really see no reason to stay a day past it.

This thread reminded me I went to high school with a guy who signed up for the Army at 17 (with parental consent or whatever), his intention was to do 20 years, his logic being that once he got out, he'd only be 37 and no matter what job he did from then on, he'd still be getting paid from his time in the Army. I wonder whatever happened to him and how the Army has worked out for him. He's about halfway to his goal by now if he's still in...

I remember having my 1SG pissed off as fuck when some E4 put in a OCS packet. Gave the whole "backbone of the Army" speech. I joined for the GI Bill and had no plans of staying in for more than one enlistment but it was enough to see what enlisted leadership is like. Bad 1SG/SGM shit all over E6/E7s to the point where the ones worth a shit move on while the shit sticks around. Then you are being led by wife beating, alcoholic, low intelligence sociopaths who get their kicks from being bullies. Made E5 in 3 yrs, kept my head down, got my college money. Learned a lot about leadership and how not to treat people.
