Dual wielding only really makes sense with once-shot pistols. In that case it makes a fuckload of sense however.

With a revolver you're probably still better off just drawing/switching the the second revolver into your dominant hand after the first one is empty.

Only viable for single action revolvers really. The school of thought is once you empty the gun in your dominant hand you just discard or holster it and use the other pistol in your off hand since most single action revolvers take forever and a day to reload.

The main advantage I could see is that with 2 weapons you can keep 2 different attack vectors covered.

there is one instance I think it is worth it. When you need pure volume of fire and you have no other alternative.

there was a some History channel show about the military. It was talking about a sniper in vietnam that have been spotted. all he had was his bolt gun, a m1911a1, and a revolver. He was in the thick bush and needed to put a bunch of fire towards the couple enemies coming for him. So dual wielding pistols made sense.

It would probably be really disorientating trying to rapidly switch focus from your dominant eye to the other and back to the point that your accuracy would degrade rapidly.

If, theoretically, you had two machine guns set up on a tripod with one hand on each, you might be able to relatively talk the guns in such a way that you keep a high volume of fire going. Again, it wouldn't be wise at this point in time to fire both simultaneously as you would just end up with two hot barrels.

It works but it requires an assload of training (you need to be able to use each hand independently but effectively) and by the time people were coming up with real systems for it SMGs came about and pretty much made it obsolete. The people ITT who are talking about multiple targets are missing the point, that shit's impressive but it's for cowboy action shooting. They experimented with that for early SMGs at the end of WWI.

It turns out to be pretty much useless. You use up twice the ammunition and have twice the recoil, while the guy you shot is no more dead than if you shot him with a short burst from a single-barreled SMG.

it works obviously why wouldn't it. your accuracy will be crap compared to a two handed hold, but we have had moderate success with this technique in airsoft in certain situations like you flank a few baddies like a sneaky snek whom your teammates keep occupied and shoot them in the back before they know what hit them. up close you can't miss and it's double firepower allows you to shoot two guys at once. and alternate between targets without turning.

but it's obviously a crappy move overall you are better off with two guys one gun each than one guy with two guns.

Well with swords it can work, but you end up using one sword to parry/block and the other to attack. You are still better off with a shield or sail dagger for parrying though...
I imagine you could probably use one gun for suppressive fire, aiming in the general vicinity just to keep someone from coming out of cover while actually aiming and trying to kill with the other. You would probably be better off just using one though.
