In aerial combat over Marawi, the F/A-50PH has proven itself to be the most potent aircraft in the region, superior to the monkey model Sukhois and second-hand 1970s-era F-16s, F-18s and F-15s in use by the Philippines' neighbors such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Australia.
It is not inaccurate to state, that the Philippines has demonstrated it possesses the most potent air force in the region.

Bombing durkas with zero AA capability isn't exactly combat. It's operational use sure but not combat.
That said what exactly is it supposed to have done to show itself to be so much better than anyone else in the regions older stuff? I see a F16 clone dumping unguided munitions in uncontested airspace, something any of the other aircraft you mention could do just as well. If they were utilising JDAMs where others haven't upgraded to be able to use them or something else similar you could claim that as something, but doesn't look to be the case.

>Number built 82
>On 15 November 2012, a T-50B of the South Korean Air Force Black Eagles aerobatic team crashed shortly after takeoff, killing the sole pilot on board. The cause of the crash was due to faulty maintenance.[153]
>On 28 August 2013, a T-50 of the South Korean Air Force crashed during a training mission near Kwangju city, killing both pilots on board. Investigation results revealed that the pilot deaths resulted from failing to eject at a sufficient altitude, while the crash itself was caused by faulty maintenance.[154]
>On 20 December 2015, an Indonesian Air Force T-50i Golden Eagle crashed while performing a flight demonstration during an airshow at Adisutjipto Air base in Yogyakarta, killing its two pilots[155][156] caused by faulty maintenance.
3.7% of the built planes have crashed due to "faulty maintenance", huh

At least it's not a F-104.

If you call having a dick in your bum classy
>>34632573
Yeah. Uh. Flips STILL HAVEN'T completely recaptured Marawi. What's worse, the inaccurate aerial bombing is being used in IS propaganda as proof of indiscriminate savagery of Christians. Good job!
>>34632573
The fact that the Philippines uses its trainer jets for combat instead of actual fighter jets is a reality gut check.
>>34633457
Considering that there are candidates for the USAFs OA-X programme that are trainers as well, it doesn't mean much. For COIN warfare the cost for sustained low threat and intensity operations are a major consideration.
>>34633457
Compared to the nothing they had before, this is still better.
