So we all know how memetic the Toyota Hilux is as the pickup

So we all know how memetic the Toyota Hilux is as the pickup truck that can be used as a makeshift combat vehicle. (Slapping an HMG on in its cargo bed and calling it a day)

But are there any other pickup truck of a different brand that can be used as a technical? Ford Rangers? Nissan Navarras? Dodge Rams? GMC Trucks? Chevrolet Colorados?

Plus in what way can sedans be used as technicals, asides from "As suicide car bombs." Any way a sedan can be used as a technical in combat?

>But are there any other pickup truck of a different brand that can be used as a technical?

You retarded? You literally answered your own question. If all you're doing is putting an MG on it, why couldn't you do it with any truck?
>>
>>34632073
By that I mean, any prefferable brand and name for the sake of brand recognition, performance or reputation 'nonny.
>>
>>34632045
You can do the same and more with a modern American truccc, than a hilux.

We had a whole fleet of them, they're not indestructible and they're not the greatest truck ever created. For one their engines don't have enough torque and the low range is under whelming. You have a noticeable limit to what you can crawl. The diff and transfer case also need more work than ideal.

That said, it's a very reliable truck, nothing in it is a new idea, it's all old and tested as toyota prides itself in. It's like a truck version of a corrola. Doesn't particularly excel at anything, but overall very reliable and overall not too hard to fix. Fuck that transmission though, burned out synchros are an expected thing.

As for any other truck. Yes, it can. Now problem is good countries have trucks that have newfangled tech like adjusting suspension in the RAMs. However in our experience, american trucks are more powerful and have better transmissions for the hauling we had to do. Being a technical isn't really that hard of a job, it's surviving the maintenance of shitskins and niggers. Probably older carb fed trucks could do it, but shitskins are the kind of people who don't even know what an oil filter is.

>Other sedans
No hauling capability, in my opinion normal cars should be ideal for logistics. Problem is you can't armor or protect them otherwise. But you could create convoys of technical protecting cars. Maybe high mobility shooting out the window or mounted gun stuff in a outback, since cars are less likely to roll, but nothing else i can think of.

Also trucks and cars, aren't armored vehicles, they're glass cannons at best.
>>
>>34632045
I'm not sure what you're asking. Toyotas are common because they are reliable, cheap, and have parts availability everywhere you can find gasoline.

I imagine you can find technicals of any truck in any hotspot wherever they are common.

The hilux is the best allrounder. It has the perfect combination of cost effectiveness, toughness, reliability, offroad capability and speed, and no I'm not a toyota shill I've actually driven one.

>>34632106
The reliability of American trucks is a fucking joke, Dodge rams fall apart from the minute you buy them and they're full of cheap plastic and dodgy welding. The only half decent american vehicle is the f150 raptor and that still isn't as reliable as the hilux, it's probably more powerful, but thats about it.
>>
>>34632210
The reliability of american trucks only sucks if you account for the what the american market wants. Which is nifty gadgets.

We used to grey import American trucks because hiluxies don't cut the heavy hauling we needed done.

Granted we where only buying early 2000s late 90s model of trucks. With minimal gadgets. Just ol fashioned manual trannies, toyota hilux autos suck as well btw. Those fords and GMCs lasted and worked hard.

You may have 'actually driven one' but i maintained and help run a whole fleet of them. They're the toyota corolla of trucks, and don't particularly excel at anything. They're just fine.

Though modern cars in general suck.

If you modified a sedan to have rear suicide doors, you could have guys as door gunners. Would be decent in a crowded city area where a HMG mounted on the back would raise suspicions.

Even better if you had a pop-out drawer on rails under the seat so you could hide a machine gun and it wouldn't be visible at a checkpoint unless they actually opened the door.

80s era Mercedes' or Volvos would be perfect, plenty of those still kicking.

toyota hilux's are only popular because they are basically the only truck in the world that is exported globally in large quantities. large pick-up trucks aren't really popular in most parts of the world except the US where we drive them like luxury cars. small trucks that fit in crowded narrow streets and tight off road areas are way more popular.

Also you can use some hoses to rerout the windshield defrosters on the iltis to heat yourself. Plus it has plugs so you can plug in some (really depends cos it's a non standard i think) fan forced heaters or radios etc.

Putting a mount on won't be hard, just like weld or something a circular thing between the frame on the rear seat. Downside you can only use it when the roof is down.

>American trucks
Any 150/1500 production light truck is going to be underwhelming from a tactical perspective. American light trucks are passenger vehicles meant for hobbyists and the occasional haul. Proclamations of toughness and ruggedness are essentially marketing. And any 250/2500 is going to be just enough to get the job done, really. Despite all the fanboyism, the only real difference between the big three American trucks is engine design.

Depending on the model year, a 4x4 Tacoma would be a compelling choice for a light technical. I honestly wouldn't settle for anything else.

>>34632242
This guy gets it. American consumers don't want reliability, they want the impression of reliability at a price they can swallow, and they DON'T want to put up with anything but the most minimal maintenance schedule. They want a transmission that will last 200k but burn out at 120k because they tow and never change the fluid out. They want inefficient engines that sound big and strong. They want an interior that's still comfy at 25k but falls about at 75k from the constant sun exposure. And the pop country crowd wants a chromed out F150 from the factory that rots from the inside out if it's not garage-kept (and you better believe that the pop country crowd drives sales).

If there's any truck producer I'd personally stay away from as a rule, it'd be GM, and only because of how the company's politics tends to influence their automotive design choices. It's getting better now that they've trimmed the fat, though.
>>
>>34639802
>inefficient engines that sound big and strong
Except they're both very efficient for V8 engines and very torky.

You're just fanboying for Toyota, they're in the same boat as the American 3.

If you want a reliable truck, you get one with minimal features, the drive train every truck is very strong, it's just all the other floof that makes them shit. Get a fleet tier vehicle, and it will last a life time.

Wut?

Civilian sector builds vehicles that can go 100k miles with zero maintenance

Military buys vehicles that can't go 1000 without a breakdown
For 10 times the price

The more modern F150s seem like they'd do the trick, if you're looking for something that could reliably carry people, weapons, armor, etc across multiple terrains.

If you're just looking for something that spits bullets and rolls, literally just strap a belt fed on a Ford Ranger or Subaru Outback or something. Hell even a Honda Civic with an MG mounted on the top could be enough to raise hell.
