Check out Wulflund, I think they have a few that are cheaper than Hanwei's. They don't really into taper but that's not a big deal on large knives. If you're looking for something extra cheap maybe see if you can find one of Cold Steel's old sax machetes. Come to think of CS maybe check out pic related, I think they even have a budget version.

Very highly considering the Caly 3 ZDP sprint run, but at nearly $200 Canadian dongs is it really worth it?

I have a UKPK and it's probably my perfect knife, so I would like to get a matching locking knife and the Caly 3 seems like the closest cousin.

i really wanted one but noticed they run thier 154cm really soft, like 56-57hrc. I mean come on this isnt a fixed blade that im going to be chopping with. Emerson does the same thing and he says its because a dull knife is still a knife but a snapped knife is useless in the field. Sure glad Zero Tolerance makes better Emersons than Emerson and uses m390 instead of under hardened 154cm.

Really? The store I'm looking at still has it. Maybe they're just ones that haven't sold yet though. How much would you consider spending to buy one? They're charging $179 Monopoly dollars (about $150 USD). Is that too much for what it is?

I recently got the 3.5 ZDP Caly and I'm not totally in love with it. Edge needed work out of the box (no biggie), lamination lines were uneven, pivot full of grit that needed disassembly and washing, vertical play that can't be adjusted out, action kinda sucks because no washers, minor blems in the carbon fiber. It's all tuned up now but the amount of work it took to be what I would consider useable was ridiculous, and I'm still not in love with it.

The ergos are great though. Really should have sold it for a few bucks more than I paid ($102 on Amazon ) when it was new.
>>
>>34629394
i got it for $112
i couldnt tell you its worth for 50 extra dollary-doos, the sheath is dried out beyond belief, the engravings are a little rough, deep but rough
they need to be polished, and itll be great

didn't come with an edge, i could put it to my throat apply pressure and slide it across my throat and i would be totally fine,

>>34629481
Huh. In that case I might have a bash at forging something out of a pair of hedge clippers. That's already seax shaped to begin with, so all I'd have to do is hammer in some bevels and temper it.

>>
>>34629470

3.5 is too big for me and never saw the appeal of the peel ply carbon fiber. I just really want a locking UKPK. The other major thing about the caly 3 is the pinned construction. Really don't understand why it needs to be pinned. Honestly don't think it's worth $185 Canadongs and think I will forego ownership.

Nice... Stainless with carved wood handles... Maybe sounds tacky... but my fathers prized gun is a 1911 of that description.

You don't have to go supper expensive for a sharpening set up. If you want to go free hand, $40 of wheat stones will do for the mean time, and maybe $300-$400 of water stones for an end game set up. And with guided systems, there are some good ones for sub $300, even sub $200
>>
>>34630418
Yeah it's a great knife, been carrying mine the last 2 weeks, and have been using it a lot for my work.

It's a solid knife, and with the s35vn variant I got, I venture to say it stands up to all my $100+ and $200+ knives blow for blow. I highly recommend it.

Although, those are all good things too get.... I've been meaning to get a motorcycle endorsement for a few years, and have just never gotten around to it. I would be looking for something like a Honda cbr500... I don't know if I would trust my self with a 600cc sport bike right off the bat.
>>
>>34629596
I'd be inclined to look for a VG10 model with G10 scales on the secondary market. The ZDP is cool and all but the standard G10 model really is what gave this knife its reputation. Also the carbon fiber on mine is smooth, not peel ply which has a texture like G10. It's the only knife I have with this.

Listsmith here. It's still a work in progress, but if you re-read the list you'll notice that the first recommendation under MULTITOOLS is >Leatherman or Gerber, shop specific to lifestyle

Currently, my price cap for knives is $20 (though perhaps it should be $15). A multitool is a knife and a lot of other things, so it stands to reason that a multitool should be more expensive than a knife of comparable quality. With this in mind, I set the price cap to $40, which accommodates a number of well-reputed Leatherman and Gerber multitools, as well as the less-bulky Victorinox Super Tinker an anon recommended.

I've been looking into the Ganzo line of multitools. The reviews look promising so far, but I haven't read enough to add them to my text file yet.

Mine doesn't do this. It feels like there's a spring or two that pushes the button away from the body of the knife on mine, and if I tap at the button it clicks, so if yours rattles you might have fucked up whatever little springs are in there.

Just used my Chinese M3 Trench Knife replica to behead a mouse that was stuck in a glue trap (set by my landlord, fuck that shit I use snap traps only) There's still some blood and fur on the blade. I wiped it down with a bit of hand sanitizer. Will that do the trick or should I use some hydrogen peroxide as well? I mostly just use it for opening boxes of ammo that come to my door and having something that looks cool to hang on my wall (and now to behead mice lol) but I don't want whatever black plague shit that mouse might have had on the tip of the blade.
>>
>>34634842

>>
>>34634842
Protip: fold the glue trap over on the mouse and stomp down hard. You'll obliterate it. Also, fuck glue traps, your landlord is a piece of shit.

hydrogen peroxide does NOT kill germs. Hydrogen peroxide is used on wounds as a debriding agent to mechanically remove bacterial from a wound. it can get the bacteria out of a wound by bubbling it out, but it actually doesn't kill it. To disinfect it, you need rubbing alcohol. If you don't have rubbing alcohol you can use vodka or boiling water.

Clorox wipes would also work. I would use rubbing alcohol and a rag.

Own 3.
They develop vertical play after some time and the steel is brittle, when I compare it to my Böker knives, I can definetly say that they don't use 440C and if they do, it's a very impure alloy from China. They also grind the edge to an angle that is too steep. It chips easily but the youtube knife molesters wouldn't know because they don't use their knives.

I started with Ganzo, then bought Sanrenmu and Enlan and I must say that Ganzo only wins the third place.
Got the Enlan EL 01 in the mail last week. Man that thing is an absolute steal for the money, a fucking tank.
Also take a look at the Land series Sanrenmu. Ball bearings and Sandvik. Good shit.

Pro tip. Never tell anyone your knife is for self defense IRL.

In Ohio at least, that statement qualifies the blade as a deadly weapon. And even with CC you are not allowed to have a concealed deadly blade.

You must always say it is a tool.

Ohio knife laws suck. Depending on the judge a steak knife on your person can be considered a concealed deadly weapon.

Ohio is goofy as shit. I can cc multiple guns almost anywhere but this knife has too long of a blade for me to carry.

Chances are I am never going to have an issue carrying it even if a cop does see it but still each time it goes in my pocket I am stepping outside what's legal.
>>
>>34645042

That one is worth $90, so I'm assuming the original is probably worth it too.

https://www.houseofblades.com/kershaw-hob-exclusive-1776blswhob-s35vn-link-blue-stonewash-assisted-knife/
>>
>>34645042
This particular one is the House Of Blades run with s35vn, it's like $90... But even at that I think it is well worth it. Functionality wise it's just as capable as my $100+ and $200+ knives. And personally I find the aesthetics and ergonomics to be up there as well. The fit and finish is where the price shows compared to my ZT's and such... but in no means is it bad, what I would expect in this price range. My only real complaint, and it's a minor one, the deep carry clip makes the knife feel a bit chunky in hand.

I think that at $90 the s35vn one is worth, although from a pure utility stand point I would recommend the Cold Steel Code 4 more in this price range,.

I also think the 420c Aluminum ones are a bargain at $45ish, considering the build quality is the same as the s35vn ones. I've never handled the cheaper ones with synthetic handles, so I can't say for sure, but all thing's considered, they are probably pretty good.

Oi lads

I work in a rough neighborhood, so I was looking to get something cheap and discreet that would fit in a butt pocket. I toyed around with a spring knife and fancied a butterfly but I think that a trench knife would be a better choice; less mechanisms to fuck up on babby's first knife, the better.
Pic related is what I'm going for. The only reason I need a knife is to ruin someone's day if they try to mug me when I lock up after dark. I don't care for the coloring but the rainbow fairy dust looking one here is $10 cheaper than the normal.

Am I making a horrible mistake?

that is going to be a pain in the ass to carry, potentially illegal, and that sheath is garbage.

Are you left-handed? Because if you try to put that knife in >>34651539 this sheath and put that sheath on your belt in a manner that makes it sit in one of your back pockets you're not going to be able to grab the knife worth a damn with your right hand. Everyone and their mother makes pic related, get one and clip it into the inside of your waistband. Practice drawing it and move it around to see where it's easy to wear and also easy to draw. If someone comes at you with their weapon already in their hand don't go for yours unless you think they're going to hurt you anyways, make sure you keep the knife concealed because if anyone sees it they're damn well going to pull out their weapon before confronting you.

I love the OSS but the sub-hilt... not so much. After some shopping around I decided on the Ontario SP-6 instead. I have several other CS product though, the Special Forces Shovel, the Norse Hawk, the Smatchet machete and the polymer Bokken.
>>
>>34656801
I know that these aren't high end knives by any means, and the price is reflected by the fact that CS have chosen to use Kraton instead of wood, brass etc. the more expensive version of the OSS called the Black Bear Classic will set you back at least 3-4 times more and those are getting very rare nowadays due to the fact that Cold Steel's San Mai 3 blades are made by a family in Japan, apparently the guy who does them is not in good health and production has really slowed down, which is why you can expect the more expensive Japanese CS knives to have a waiting time of anywhere between 6 months to a year. End of the day, i think AUS8A is a reasonable steel for the price you pay on these

I own quite a few... At some point I should take a family photo of just my Cold Steel's.

I liked it.

There's not enough curve on the blade for my taste, but that's just preference. The ring of the first gen version was just the liners extended. I didn't personally have a problem with it, but some people didn't like it, so the new ones have a G10 insert to stiffen it up. I actually like Spyderco's wave better than Emerson's.

I remember the handle being pretty slim and fairly comfortable. You have to use the ring in order to comfortably get a full grip on it.

Never had an Emerson Karambit for the same reasons you won't get a replacement--just too pricy for what you're getting (want one though).

They make some pretty nice stuff, especially on the lower end. A lot of their machetes are great and so are their throwing knives. Part of that is probably that they stole/licensed plenty of designs but now that they're updating their materials and prices that's really not a big deal for me, sometimes the cheaper alternative is worthwhile.

In my state it is illegal to "illegally carry" an automatic knife. It vaguely defines these carry laws as "all cases but with minor exemption illegal to carry them on one's person".
Does this mean a major seller simply won't ship to me?

She gets cornered in the alley by some addict and he slams her into a wall and threatens her for money, she pulls a knife and he runs off.

Nope that's a meme, guards on knives are useful but not necessary and are often omitted for the sake of concealment on knives across the world.

Yeah and it's a great source for pics, he still seems to be updating too.

>he still seems to be updating too.
he posts regularly on a forum i'm on.
i guess someone recently used some of his pics without permission and published them in a book
seems like a pretty dickish move.
kek, he probably wouldn't like people posting them on 4chan either

So my Kershaw Launch 2 arrived today, and all I can say is fuck. This is a knife I really want to love and give a good review on, it looks good, action is good, feels good in the hand, USA made and good materials, but they had to go and fuck it up.

The factory grind was way off, I don't know what degree angle it was but it certainly was not what it was supposed to be, the straight edge part of the blade was like a wedge, I could literally press my finger on the blade and move it up and down rapidly with nothing happening and the tip of it looked like a blunt instrument. The serrations were as sharp as you'd expect a Kershaw knife to be.

Now instead of taking advantage of Kershaws sharpening or sending it back I live in the absolute bumfuck nowhere, just barely in the EU and in a country where there's just one business that sells knives, and they're not exactly known for their reliability.

So I had to put my sharpmaker on it since I don't have the days it would take to re-profile the edge to somewhat sharp so I can actually use it, but that also means that freehanding it now is almost impossibly tedious and it will never reach 100% sharpness and is bound to the sharpmaker.

Just poor display all together on the blade, which in my opinion is the main part of the whole knife.

Anyone else noticed how these days these mid range USA made knives are not as trustworthy on quality as USA made knives used to be? I remember when I used to trust the USA made badge blindly, and these days it feels I get dissapointed time after time.

I know how sharp Kershaw can be on a good day since I own a plenty, so receivign on eas dud as this on the blade department was just an absolute kick in the balls, especially since money was tight and I was struggling between a handful of options on what to get, and now I am left feeling like I made the wrong choice.

that's too bad about your knife, bud.

I've noticed this sadly. U.S.A stuff isn't as good as everyone makes it seem,

i have reason to suspect that the great "coming together" in the 1940's made the U.S focus on quality and making sure things were made right as to not waste resources while at war.

the end of the 60's is where people stopped caring and the great haze of america set in, ever since then we think we make the best shit but we dont

every single coworker except my morning lady carries a knife, morning lady does pepper spray.

One of my coworkers carries 4 knives, he wants me to get a butterfly but again, I feel the flashiness is wasted.

Is he autistic, or does he have four different kinds of knives for four different tasks he does daily? Most I've ever carried was a sharp knife, a beater knife, and a multitool.
>>
>>34664773
>Is he autistic
no, but you must be, becasue only an autistic faget would care that much abiout what other people do.
>>
>>34664813
So why 4 knives Stop beating around the question.
>>
>>34664773
he's ex military, has a boot knife, a big hunting knife he keeps in his bag, another knife that's in one of his pant pockets or belt loop, and then a fourth he said he has but I didn't press him on it.
>>
>>34664813
I was curious about what he did that he used four knives and yes, I have mild Asperger's.
