Aero AR-10 would be the easiest if it's gonna be a hunter, maybe a PTR
>>
>>34626559
What about as a possible "shtf" rifle? Do ar-10s really not have alot of parts interchangeability?
>>
>>34626601
Depends on the type of AR-10 you get, the BCG and buffer springs aren't interchangeable though which are the parts you'd be most likely to change. I'd use my FAL for shtf battle rifle desu
>>
>>34626642
Are there enough parts laying around to keep it fixed up? Would you use it like a dmr type thing? My first choice would probably be my AR right now, though she needs an optic
>>
>>34626681
If something broke I'd be pretty boned on parts but I doubt any of the integral parts would manage to get fucked up unless I did it on purpose. And I have an extra lower and carrier if something did manage to go wrong with those

>>

Going to be buying some magazines for my .308 super vepr

Trying to decide between 15 round magazine or 20 rounds. (I currently just have a 5 and 10 round mag) I want to be able to shoot comfortably with it while prone. I don't have a bipod for it yet

What do you guys think? And I have to choose carefully since super vepr magazines are about $38-$41 each

Also, not sure if a Mosin qualifies as a battle rifle but it's an absolute joy to shoot. Not super aesthetically pleasing, but a truly lovely rifle.

The stump on the hill is what we shoot at mostly. You almost can't see the target from the table.

I can hit the paper within a couple inches of the center every time, which probably isn't bad for an amateur with shitty ammo using plain iron sights.

Also to fix a shitty DSA mag, scrape the paint/finish off the feed lips with a knife or file and maybe sand it smooth. All your feeding problems will be over after that.

A .308 bullet hitting sideways is basically a 1.12 caliber bullet.
That's nearly 4x as much bullet per bullet.

I knew it had a silver lining.

That being said, I took it to an indoor range with a retarded loud comp and was asked to stop before three mags. It was snowing lead, paper and dust particles from the track and ceiling throughout the whole bay and knocked the T off the track to the left of me. Brass on the ground parted like the red sea.

I asked Squid for his autograph when I saw him at Walmart. You know what that little fucker did? He pulled down his pants infront of the entire store, infront of my kids! He then took a can of peas and hit my 6 year old daughter in the fucking head with it and started yelling some shit about summoning something while taking a dump on the floor. I picked up my daughter and was making sure she was ok and when I turned around Squid was pissing on his shit. He plopped down on the ground and started to rub the piss shit on his dick then ran over and smacked me with his shit and piss covered dick and said it was his autograph. Then he started to chase people with his shit covered dick and when the police showed up he had no pants on, covered in shit and was acting like nothing happened. The fucker was just walking down isle 4 looking at breakfest cereal and he told the cops that I attacked him and that he has PTSD from playing the combat simulator Call of Duty. So the cops arrested me, took my daughter to CPS and towed my fucking car.

Seriously fuck that guy.

Is there anything actually wrong with a DSA voyager if I just want an FAL to have an FAL? Everything I've found that's negative about them has been speculation about the cast receiver as opposed to a forged one. I haven't been able to find any actual concrete complaints about their performance, and while I can find similar deals on FAL Files such as the rifle anon posted above, those aren't backed by any sort of warranty, and I'm pretty much taking someone's word for it that his parts kit build will work really well and not give me any problems whereas the voyager is made by an actual large-scale manufacturer with a good reputation except for a few QC issues back when they first started making their own parts.
>>
>>34640064
For the same cost you can get a much better rifle, that's literally why
>>
>>34640064
In fact, the reviews I've seen have been positive, but whatever someone posts one here, all I see is "LOL ENJOY YOUR CAST RECEIVER PLEB"
>>
>>34640098
But where? I know builds sell on the FAL Files for $100 more or so, but again, that's one person's build for which I have no recourse if something fails. And what's so good about the builds people sell besides forged receivers? Have cast receivers actually been documented to fail prematurely, or is it all speculation?
>>
>>34640135
>better receiver
>better barrel
>better furniture
I've handled a Voyager, it just felt cheap and shitty. The FAL market is dominated by kits, so if you want to avoid them then that's your goto but I will tell you it's the wrong move

FN used to make cast type III receivers as well and they were rated for a lower round count than type I and II forged as well, but if you're buying a voyager you'll never hit that round count, so it's just a matter of it actually being in spec rather than the lemons DSA puts out
>>
>>34640135
Much better barrels and in spec parts.
>>
>>34640156
Fair enough. Is there anything to look out for when I'm looking at a build someone is selling? I saw the rifle another anon posted last night and am waiting for my account to activated to contact the seller, but I've never owned a battle rifle, so I feel as though I'm kind of going in blind and just saying, "oh wow looks cool great"
>>

I wanted a SCAR for the longest time and was saving for one until word started to spread that SOCOM is ditching them, so now that they longer have the muh navy SEALs cool factor to justify the fact that they're double the price of an FAL, I've started to want an FAL or PTR, and having shot a CETME, I think I'd much prefer an FAL.

>>
>>34640174
Head space and barrel timing is about it, maybe the locking shoulder but if it's all staying together you can be sure it's all correct. Putting together an FAL is only moderately harder than an AR
>>

Can any PTRfags help me out? I ordered one and it's been able to eject a round exactly once in about 25 rounds. The first few rounds I simply had to cycle it manually but today at the range I had to mortar the thing twice just to get the brass out. I read some stuff about a break in period but I don't see myself mortaring the gun for 200-300 rounds.
I've tried several different mags with147gr PMC and 150gr Winchester. There's nothing wrong with the brass other than the flute marks are a bit deep.

if you were members of the files or actually did any research you'd know what this man says which is basically DSA bought the technical data/blueprints and machines to build from austria so they are in fact in spec.

as for barrels, a lot of kits don't come with barrels anymore and wont be imported with barrels because lol laws and the barrels you do get are used sooo how long of a round count can you estimate on a kit that was used then bought and used and probably shot with steel then sold over?

You guys are parroting old shit that is on par with fuddlore. What most faggots say makes ptr great is what dsa has and they go unrecognized. I don't see ptr making rifles for any other country or military. The fal market should boom with stupid magpul accessories but you fear mongering faggots with your ignorance and broke bank accounts kill any possibility of a good following. The moses mag is dead and so is the acr stock adapter. The fal has the best possibility for modernization and modularity out of the big three but its a stagnant ignorant market thanks to loudmouth know nothings like you two.

Anyone know what could cause something like this to happen? I went to break in my PTR today and had no issues up until around the 200 round mark, at which point I switched from brass M80-spec 7.62 to Hornady Steel Match .308. I had a couple of magazines go follower-down like this, and a couple of failure to feeds where the round jammed itself into the barrel extension that I'm assuming are related.

Hell if I know. I figured it was just a weird one-off too, but I loaded a single round in a different mag, fired it, then ejected the mag and found this. I only got this issue when I loaded the mag with a single round, so I have to assume that's related to the issue.

Mag springs and followers seemed to be fine. First mag was a HK 1969, second one was HK 1990. Popped the floorplate off, reseated the follower, loaded the mags with ten rounds, and both went through them just fine aside from the aforementioned FTFs.

You'd really have to shoot all of them to know, and I can admit I've never shot a G3, only handled them at shows and shit. Shot the other majors though, and I have to say FAL is my favorite, has the best ergos and least complicated internals of all the majors. One thing most people can agree on is G3 ergos are pretty garbo unless you have some major arm reach. However it's the second cheapest option and much much cheeper to keed fed between steel case and 2 dollar mags. You should ideally just own them all though

Scrape the inside of the edge of the feed lips so the brass can slide easier.

On my new DSA mags I found every other shot was getting hung up right at the neck of the brass because the shit is painted on the inside. Just get a pocket knife and scrape it to the metal, then sand or file it smooth. It'll feed fine from there on.

That's my best guess. This all happened with 155 gr Steel Match but never occurred with 147 gr M80 of various manufacture. If I had to guess I'd say the ejection was more violent than normal, causing the bolt to slip over the follower and pull it up like that, but the bolt always closed fully whenever it did it. Only happened on two mags out of about 7-8 loadings though, and only with the Steel Match.

I'm hoping it won't pop up again since I have no intention of buying Hornady steel ever again (I found it on clearance for like .40 cents/round), but I'm still trying to sort out exactly what happened.

No I mean this is over like 30m to a half hour
>>
>>34644742
Is the rifle new? It could be the oils on the piston/barrel/oprod cooking off. Try using grease instead of CLP.
>>
>>34644796
What kind of ammo are you shooting? My PTR will start smoking after about 20 rounds when I get it to the range, but part of that is just lubricant burning off. After that it'll smoke a fair bit less unless I switch from brass to lacquered steel ammo.

I shot one steel round through my gun after a couple hundred rounds of brass and it threw up so much smoke I thought I had an out of battery strike. I even had smoke coming out of my damn selector switch since it burned off all the lacquer.
>>
>>34644824
Yea it is very new I've put maybe 400 rounds through it so far and I clean it gently once every 100rds with hops and my brass brush
>>
>>34644831
I use PPU

I have a gun grease and I don't use oil really.

When I saw smoke I thought it was my wood. When I look down the sights my barrel was radiating heat to such a degree that it was heavily distorting the heat and I couldn't see my target very well
>>
What type of cost are we looking at to do a proper FAL build, imbel receiver and whatever parts kit as well as the FAL specific tools?

I don't plan on getting a BR soon but I've been leaning towards a PTR since it is more practical and reasonably priced, but in reality I like the FAL more. Might get a bolt gun for fudd things and long range, but if I could hit steel at 600-700 yards with either a ptr or FAl id be happy

My total build cost with an Imbel kit and receiver is about $1200. I could have saved about $100 or so with getting a couple things cheaper but I'm not complaining. You could also use a DSA or Coonan receiver for a few hundred bucks cheaper but you have a bit more risk of having some spec issues. I'm really pleased with doing a build though, it's fun.

I do love my PTR though so that's a very good alternative if you don't want to do a build.
>>
>>34644890
Gunplumber kits with barrel are about 550 and a good forged receiver will run you about 5-600. Add 2-300 for building.
>>
>>34644890
Would recc just buying a built kit for a little over 1k, either that or an imbel kit on imbel receiver is the first stepping stone for a lot of people >>34644952

Another $150 give or take for 922r parts if sending to builder.

Also it's gonna cost more if you want the rifle to have any kind of finish put on it. While many argue it being a matter of taste remember a good finish does protect your guns from rust senpai.

I picked up these HK 30 rounders from some guy on Armslist for $10 each, he said he bought them in 92, and two still have factory grease on them.

I have a feeling they are worth significantly more than $10.

Like you paid too much for your waffle-flavored ACR.

The SCAR is a great gun, but there's no way in hell it's worth more than $2k when a Nemo or GAP-10 will literally shoot circles around it and the .308 builds from your favorite high speed/low drag overpriced operator manufacturers will wreck it in terms of durability/reliability.

It's like spending $70k on a 5-series. Sure, everyone else knows that you spent some dough on it, but it's neither the fastest nor the most luxurious thing you can buy at that price point, so you're going to get wrecked at the stoplight by your neighbor and his Chevy SS [the dude at the tactical shooting class with the operator-core AR10 build] while your wife still complains to you about how it isn't as nice inside as her friend's husbands E-class is [you getting your shit pushed in at the range by the dude with the Nemo or the GAP-10].

Meanwhile, you've just spent a shitton of money that you (hopefully) could easily afford in the first place on something that's really not that special, something that you're still going to see all the time, while for a mere ~20% more, you could have bought something REALLY offensive that just screams "I have more money than you" and can drive circles around your car like a 911, an i8, an R8, or an S Class Coupe [the mint HK91 built into a 1MOA/sub-MOA SG/1 clone or the .300 WinMag Nemo].
>>
Okay I know they are shit, but how shit are these new C308's because at $440 after rebate it is really compromising my judgement. Are the 6 moa guns like I've heard?
>>
>>34648262
The SCAR isn't designed to compete with the likes of the Nemo or GAP-10.

Its a fucking ar10 thats built. No worries about mixing spec shit all that works done for you. Just swap the furniture as you wish and shoot whatever fucking ammo you want. I keep wanting to buy one, then I think about headspacing and a catastrophic failure inches from my face and into both of my wrists. If I owned one, I would probably shoot it enough where headspacing will become an issue.

You're comparing the accuracy of a battle rifle to precision boutique semi-auto rifles. If your life was in danger and you could only have one rifle, would you seriously choose a .300WM Nemo or a GAP-10?
