Tell me why this is a bad idea, /k/.
>>34624085
Kevlar doesn't really work that way.
It might stop it from piercing your skull, but it'll still shatter it.
>>34624085
Weight
Because respirators are already the worst thing in the world to wear, so why make them even worse by adding a several pounds of inch thick ballistic glass to them that'll fog up something awful and basically impede your mobility?
>>34624085
"bullet proof glass" is a misnomer. The thickness of that glass/pexiglass would have to be very thick and I can imagine it distorting vision.
The kevlar would also have to be thick to absorb a bullet's impact. Further more since that portion of the gas mask is raised above the surface of the skin I imagine the kevlar not absorbing all the momentum right up front and you'll still end up with severe damage to your nose, cheekbone and other areas.
Mask too big, no good, break neck bad

>It might stop it from piercing your skull, but it'll still shatter it.
Newton's third law
>>34624085
there is no such thing as bullet proof glass and Kevlar is a nylon alternative fiber and has no ballistic stopping properties in itself.
You'd end up walking around with four inch "ballistic" glass lenses which weigh and cost a ton, and a rubberized Kevlar weave which would at best be rated for 00 buck and no additional protection over a regular gasmask. Those shits get hot to wear man.

It's so beautiful, like seeing an angel.
>>34624085
it would weigh a gorillion pounds to have any bullet stopping effect, even against small pistols, and still cause your brain to liquify if you get shot in teh face
>>34624152
in its defence, kevlar is still very strong. theres a reason they make a lot of stuff out of it, including cargo straps and fall arrest gear and boot soles and junk
in fact im surprised that gas masks wouldnt have a kevlar shell and a thinner coating of rubber or plastic or w/e just for durability and shelf life, rather than being made out of rubber thatll crack and die as soon as its stored improperly

why don't just use a normal gas mask + a helmet with bulletproof visor. like this?
>>34624570
Angel's aren't beautiful, they're fucking terrifying inhuman monsters.
>>34624131
kevlar is soft, the mask will deform and the impact area will be the size of a golf ball or smaller. That's going to break your face

it would be fine, until it started to actually chainsaw something, then it would be fugged

Yes, but after they are used for chemical weapons you wont want to.
>>34624085
The glass might stop a bullet, but if it cracks at all then the guy is dead anyway because his gas mask doesn't work anymore.

or we could attch a bear trap to it, so it could clamp itself to the target and use it stabilize itself while cutting.
Pros:you can take something back to base
cons:you will have more things to clean

>>34624085
Too heavy. It would pull forward, breaking the seal and it would likely put far too much strain on the cervical spine. Twisting to look left, right or up could cause a neck sprain if done too quickly, just holding the head up to look straight forward would cause damage after a while.
Plus every fucking CSM would make them mandatory overseas.

>>34624582
>rather than being made out of rubber thatll crack and die as soon as its stored improperly
They also have a finite service life. The cost of a kevlar build would exceed the value of the added service life.
