The only HK pistol I know of which is overly complicated for the end user to comfortably detail strip is the VP9/40. The USP, P2000, HK45 and P30 are all pretty simple to take apart as long as you're minimally mechanically inclined. Compared to other popular handguns, the USP is very straightforward.

I think the "cheapness" of parts, especially magazines, is more of a factor to explain the Glock's popularity.

I've shot both of them and I actually thought that the full size USP40 had more snap, although it might have had something to do with the gun being the Tactical model and the rubber o-ring on the barrel causing the slide to move back at an increased velocity (just my theory) due to building up pressure before unlocking. The compact has less snap, but the force of the recoil impulse is a little greater than the full size.

9/10 Bretty gud. My biggest gripes with the first gen, the meh stippling and awful trigger, were fixed. There's no way in hell you're losing your grip on it and the trigger is much crisper with a short and audible reset. It's not apex good, but still one of the nicest striker fired triggers I've tried. I originally didn't want a safety model, but it grew on me since the safety is crisp and doesn't accidentally engage in normal use. Safety and slide release are ambi and work great incase you need to shift the gun to an off hand. Top of the slide has a small tactile loaded chamber indicator that comes out maybe a millimeter at most. Most of the parts and all the mags of the first gen are compatible, so you can cannibalize old M&Ps if needed. Sights are meh 3 dots. Has 3 sized backstraps like the gen 1.

All in all very worth the $440 I paid.
