Working second shift is terrible, 7-3 is the best.

>>34618602
I love sleeping in. I worked first shift for 8 months before moving to second and it was absolutely brutal to wake up at 5am. Besides, I can still hang out with friends on the weekends.
>>34618624
>I'm a fellow CNC button pusher
Not him, but I did that for a few weeks at a really good company as a temp, but I had to quit. How does a person do something so boring and repetitive?
>>34618588
No, I'm a metallurgical lab manager. I sit in my office all day and Jack off.
>>34618626
I like sleeping in as well, but I'd give that up to go back to 7 to 3, and being able to see friends after work. I'm socially needy, and just the weekends don't really cut it for me.
>>34618731
You sound like our quality guy
>>34618734
7-3 wouldn't be so bad, but getting up at 5 for 6-2 was awful. I used to get up at 6am all the time for school so that wasn't bad, but there's a big difference in just that extra hour of sleep. It's really hard to get a full 8 hours and get up at 5, who the fuck goes to bed before 9.
>>34618783
Oh yeah, there's a huge difference between starting at 6 vs 7. I can go to bed at 10 and be asleep by 11, but I just can't make myself get in bed sooner than that.

Anyone know the intricacies of the Arisaka? I just got my Type 99 today. While reassembling it after cleaning, I noticed the cleaning rod release button is stuck down. I can push the cleaning rod back down into the lock, but the button doesn't spring back up and I need to yank the cleaning rod to take it out. Any idea how to fix?
>>34620632
Nvm, loosened the screws on the front band and the button popped back up

So. Just joined the Carcano club again today because they seem to just follow me home.
It's a 91/41 in good condition (nice bore, great bluing and finish except for the bolt which had a small amount of rust which I quickly cleaned) except for something odd.
Someone stripped all the metal parts from the stock except the reinforcement block.
No butt plate, sling mounts, barrels bands, nothing so much as a screw.
It looks like it hasn't even been fitted with any parts before frankly.
So.
I either got an unfinished rifle that some fucktard shot a few times, or a project someone said fuck it to.
No gain twist rifling sadly.
Any advice on reloading 6.5 Carcano?
>>34620722
I load 6.5 Japanese and 6.5 Swede, but I really like 140 grain hornady amax. Not sure how it would shoot with a carcano
>>34620722
.268 caliber bullets not .264
>>34620722
Also, forgot pics.
I got it on the way home from a quick range trip to try out my FAL (which, having messed with the hammer spring, actually funtions close to properly now although is still quite high in the gas setting it requires)
Also, one other interesting thing about the trip...
>>34620761
I got my first malfunction in my Hakim.
Can you take a wild guess what it was, based on my pic?
Also, for my fellow Hakim owners, the cheap Romanian shit functions great in the rifle because the bolt is heavy enough and the tolerances generous enough that it gives no fucks.
Just keep a cleaning rod handy and the gas setting as low as possible (don't have it anything but absolute minimum unlike my retarded ass)
Also, blatant shilling courtesy of Steyr, because their open house was cool as fuck.
>>34620799
Damn, forgot the pic related again.
>>34620799
Hakim owner here - I've always had my Hakim spray me with corrosive shit from the DI. Does messing with the gas adjustment help with that? I shoot Romanian ammo as well
>>34620826
Just put the arrow on the click that's farthest left (any further shuts the gas port completely)
And it's DI with no cover to keep shit out of your face. It's not really something we can avoid.
And I mean the green sealed stuff everyone says is out of spec and doesn't feed right in the bolt actions, not the nice red lacquer stuff I save for my bolt guns.
>>34620799
I've had the complete opposite with the new production Romanian shit. Failure to extract every few rounds.
The new girl. If she isn't beautiful I don't know what is.
>>34620865
By taking off the rim like mine did?
Or by breaking the extractor?
I have been saving my surplus red lacquer for my Mauser.
The green lacquer stuff I bout almost five years ago before I knew better.
I only tried it on a whim, and while it's not as nice as the Iranian stuff (never thought I'd say that) it's still available and cheap.
>>34620876
Forgot the pic like the idiot I am
>>34620865
I've had good luck with old 8mm. Worst ammo i have is a bin of 7.62x45... at least half FTF. Not really worth shooting
>>34620632
On the one of mine that sometimes does it I just push the cleaning rod in and wiggle it around.
>>34616966
1912 handnugget
>>34620889
The case would just stick. My extractor is fine. That's why I tired using the still case because the extractor grooves on my brass were being shredded.
I had to mortar the rifle to remove the case.
>>34619806
If you like reloading and having a bleedingly accurate handgun, yeah. You fucked up.
If you just want a surplus plunked then no.
You did well.

>>34620934
Corrosive is cheap and the Yugo ammo is super quality stuff. Mine loves it
>>34620934
Because it's something I had lying around.
I bought a 400 round case from SAMCO a year before they went under. It stank to all hell and it wasn't pleasant to shoot from my M48, and I wasn't gonna risk it with my Gewehr 88, but wanted something to get rid of it quicker.
I got it for $325, two Izhevsk '74 mags and an L1A1 bolt (stripped).
It was cheap and worked well.
If it helps, I also sent some Yugoslavian stuff through it and it shot seriously well especially cinsidering I'm a shitty aim.
>>34620722
You absolutely need to use long round nose bullets like the original military loading. Hornady makes a .267 bullet specifically for the Carcano. You should slug the bore first though.

The 6.5s never went to a spitzer. The 7.35s did but I have no experience with them. I've had issues with feeding the shorter PPU bullets using both repro and original clips. MidwayUSA carries the Hornady .267 bullets. Interestingly enough on the PPU international website they list loading 6.5 Carcano with .268 160grn RNs but for some reason we don't get them here in the US
>>34620996
I know it's a 99 dummy
It came from Kogyo
Tell me what year please
>>34621072
>It came from Kogyo
It was made by Tokyo Juki Kogyo (Tokyo Heavy Machinery Manufacturing corporation). It's a 37th series. My Type 99 with all of the 'bits' is also a 37th series. It would have been made around 1942.
It's a pretty uncommon maker. With about 95,000 made by them in total. 56k from the 37th series (with the first 21k or thereabouts made with all of the 'bits') and about 40k made in the 27th series. And yes, the 27th series was made after the 37th.
>>34621072
Is it matching btw?
The company now makes sewing machines under the name of Juki. Chances are what you're wearing now was made on their machines. They make a lot of the big industrial sewing machines.
Anyone have experience with the process of importing firearms or parts into the US?
>>34620987

Yes. That's not a Mauser; it's a re-worked Gew.88. Amberg manufacture, by the look of the residual crest. Collectors call these Turkish re-built Gew.88s "Gew.88/05/35" based on the earliest-observed date of conversion. Turk rifles are fine if you want a shooter.
>>34623053
>He said he would go down to $250
Does the bolt match? Matching bolts are uncommon on Turks; it would definitely be worth $250 if the bolt matches, but I think the stock has been refinished. Post more pics.

I do like reloading, although now I'm only doing .50-70, .303, 5.56, 9mm and .308. I've got an article somewhere around here on reloading specifically for the Webley.
A Mk. VI will come eventually, I'm holding out for an unconverted one. A Webley is my "gun that got away," I couldn't come up with $300 in high school in time to buy one (that is, talk my Dad into buying...) an unconverted gun that popped up in a pawnshop in the town I grew up in. I'm also a bit of an anglophile when it comes to guns, so I need something to compliment my Mk. 3* and L1A1.

>>34621179
i have a lot, over 10
>>34625281
so its fine to finger fuck, but once you load up live rounds its a smidge stiff. I haven't slugged the bore cause shes not worth doing custom loads for anyway.
Basically its worth getting as a collection hole filler, but if you're looking for a nice shooter then go for a 98k or even a Gew88. The actions are much smoother and they are nicer to shoot. Plus a 98A or K-29 will basically have the same sights if thats part of the appeal for you.
>>34625311
>its nothing special/worth talking about.
But it's cool and almost a Mannlicher. That's worth talking about in and of itself.
>>34625396
I guess. I mean I dont regret buying it, and its not up for sale, but I was hoping it would be a nice shooter to take out occasionally --- offer a unique experience (technically it does, but not in a good way).
It was just a bit of a disappointment and I have no reason to waste ammo on it, when I have over a dozen other 8mm that are more fun to shoot.

>>34621751
I like mine. It can be be converted to centerfield and rounds can be made from 8 mm lebel or .348 Winchester if you are reloading savvy. I'll post pics of my conversion if you want, I took a bunch of pics planning on starting a thread but never got around to it.

Calvary Carbine. Kicks like a fucking mule. Equine reference and its stout kick=mule.

One piece carbon fiber. Or one piece steel covered in rubber Matched to the bore size. I've heard people say the segmented aluminum or steel rods can damage the bore but I'm not sure I believe that because of the whole softer metal can scratch harder metal thing. The one piece rods are definitely worth the cost in my opinion.

Some guy is trying to sell a japanese revolver claiming it's an antique, yet it's manufactured after 1899. His claim is since the ammo is no longer manufactured in the US and is based off a pre 1899 design, it qualifies as an antique. Is this a legitimate claim? In a transfer like this if he was wrong, who would the blame lay with?

The crescent-and-star on the bolt head is a Turkish property mark. They only used it for a few years during the early Republic period. At that time they also bought a lot of spare Gew.88 parts from CZ-Brno in Czechoslovakia, so your rifle may have some Circle-Z-proofed parts.

You might not have it all original but they have it on the rack for around $120 (it's 7.35 and I sold it for $75, you can probably give them $100 even)

You can only strengthen an action so much. Any G.88 even if it was modified by Jesus himself shouldn't be fired with full power military 8mm Mauser

I got a repro for my #4, it doesn't look right to me.
>>34630585
I just want the correct style. I'd like to get one from the same manufacturer but it doesn't matter as much as the actual function
My local gunstore has a rather pristine Egyptian FN-49 for $875. At that price, is it worth a full yolo and assfucking my wallet for it? It won't stop me from buying food or anything like that, just would result in me spending more than I would usually like to.
>>34630666
It's a Century built one, I'd avoid it.
>>34629419
They have the same WRAs they've always had
>>34630690
I'm not too well read on the history of the gun, but is the issue with Century that it's not as well built, or is it just less collectable? My understanding is they built some from spare parts laying around and resold those, making what's more or less a rearsenaled one.
My issue is that it is a gun that I do have some interest in already, plus I was already hoping to have my next gun be either a nice milsurp gun or some sort of battlerifle thing. The whole not paying for shipping and FFL transfer has its appeal as well.

>>34630878
Would $350 be a decent price for one? Receiver and bolt match but misc parts do not, stock bands etc.
>>34631021
That's a fair price. And for the record, the Gew 88 action isn't particularly weak. They handle regular Gew 98 154gr loads just fine.
>>34631137
I'll handle your hot load onii-chan

>Don't use it in semi-autos
Egyptian 8x57 was made for use in semi-autos tho.
>>34630198
>There receivers were strengthened for somewhat higher pressure loads compared to the regular 88s right?
Not at all, but the Gew.88 action is plenty strong on its own. Besides, all the Turk 88/05/35 barrels have .323" bores. >>34631021
>Would $350 be a decent price for one? >Receiver and bolt match but misc parts do not, stock bands etc.
Seems a little much to me but finding a Turk with a matching bolt is uncommon.
>>34631137
He still needs to slug the bore. And the Gew.88 isn't weak but it is weaker than the G.98 and doesn't have as good of gas venting in case of cartridge failure. He really shouldn't shoot any of the commonly available heavy surp out there
>>34631303
As >>34631271 said, all 88/05/35s are .323 bore. The vast majority of commercially available ammo is fine and even some of the heavy shit, though you are right about gas ventilation. But that doesn't have anything to do action strength.
