>>34615599
So the gas tube lever? Those things can be on there super tight so I'm always worried about breaking them.
>>
>>34615610
He's saying he removed the gas tube, put the gas tube back on, but didn't get it in all the way. He tried to force the lever but since the gas tube wasn't all the way in it broke.

Tip for people with AK-74 style AKs.. push down AND pull back on the gas tube, helps get it seated. If the handguards aren't parallel it's not seated.

>>34615621
I honestly did not think somebody could be that retarded.
>>
>>34615613
>>34615621

But like I said, should it be taking this long to fix? All they needed was 2 parts and and to drill out and re-rivet the thing
>>
>>34615621
So slap it down, then pull back towards the RSB? Seems easy enough.
>>
>>34615651
Yeah when you pull it back you should feel it slide the rest of the way into place
>>
>>34615643
I wasn't even aware you could buy the levers and rivets individually from the rear sight block. Who knows man.
>>
>>34615621
I remember the day I took my 104 home, stripped it for a first cleaning and did the exact same shit putting it back together. My lever didn't break, probably because I slot the little protruding tab into a cutout on the cleaning kit tube.
>>
>>34615660
Cool, I haven't taken the gas tube off my 74 yet so I'm not sure how it should feel. Is there any way to loosen up the lever? I can tap it out of the detent with a mag baseplate but on my Maadi it's almost effortless.
>>
>>34615696
I did do that but because I wasnt aware the gas tube wasnt on all the way I forced it and snapped the lever. Thought it was just being stubborn

Your call dude, I'm pleased with mine so far. Is it used? You can get a new one for a little bit more. Only reason to get a used one IMO is to get one without the gas restrictor.

I've got a Tula plum grip and vented handguards coming in the mail.
>>
>>34615702
It all depends on who made it

Wasrs are usually effortless, Russian guns are tight as fuck
>>
>>34615802
You don't need two krinkov. Sell me that kit. I give you good price
>>
>>34615805
Yep, this is my Izzy '83 rifle I'm talking about, so I'm not surprised the tolerances are tighter than the Pyramid WASR. I'm just trying to make sure I don't damage anything since finding a period-accurate replacement will be a nightmare and a half if I do.

Are there any special tricks to getting the tube off as well? I noticed there's a leaf spring between the gas tube and RSB that's not present on the Maadi, so I'm assuming that's going to give it additional pressure to resist removal.

>>
>>34615838
The spring is to keep it from rattling. It makes disassembly and reassembly slightly more of a trick.

For taking it off, using the rail of the bolt carrier is the best way I've found that doesn't mar up the lever whatsoever.

The gas tube levers on my 83 and 88 kits are super super tight.. I attribute it to them being tight in the first place, and age.

>>
>>34615938
Yes.

Anything with the rivets looking funky is an issue or will be within 1,000 rounds.
>>
>>34616032
The rivet itself isn't bad, I was referencing the crack behind it.
>>
>>34616035
I initially thought that was just a scratch.. but how could a scratch continue past the rivet the like that? Looks like a crack which would be cause for concern to me.

if it was scratched before the rivet was installed...

what's that shit hanging out from underneath the rivet? some chips they didn't deburr?

Couldn't be a crack, metal wouldn't form a perfectly straight crack like that and especially not with the pressure a rivet would give it

I want to, namely one of the Krink variants to SBR, but frankly I don't have any room for any other long guns and I gotta focus on other stuff for the next couple of years. The girl I'm dating is finding me a hard sell for her immigrant parents and told them I'm saving up for a house, which is a half-truth at best - I'm *looking* into buying a house, but since about this time last year almost all my disposable income and then some have gone into various gun projects ('83 build, Maadi refurb, PTR-91, Fauxland Special, can and Form 4, Form 1 for Scorpion Evo, and as much ammo as I can afford for all of it).

Sooner or later that claim is gonna come around, and I really do not want to be caught with my pants down and my wallet empty because I bought more guns than I can reasonably shoot on a regular basis anyway.

>>34615938

I'm 27, and her parents are first-generation Korean immigrants with very high standards. Property values are definitely on the rise, but that's part of why it got brought up - she's trying to basically make the case that I'm more responsible (true) and successful (eeeh) than most people our age, and just being in the market for an actual house instead of an apartment at my age lends a lot of weight to that claim.

I was actually looking into buying a condo or a home before I met her too, if only so I can actually have a second room to set up as a home office and gun storage room instead of having to squeeze past a small ammo dump every time I get into bed. Having a backyard of my own to take nice pictures of my guns in rather than just laying things down on a plash-palatka would be an added bonus. Witcheranon's brick porch makes me jelly every time I see it.

She's not letting them dictate as far as I can tell (or she'd be dating a Korean like they want instead of a mutt like me), but obviously, she wants them to approve. Financial stability isn't too much to ask, and it's something I should be working on again anyway. It's less about the house and more about proving I don't just blow through all my cash on stupid shit and live paycheck to paycheck.

...which I currently kinda am, so I gotta get that fixed before I go blow $1K on a beater 5.45 rifle.

Yeah, it's czechpoint. A buddy of mine has a century vz2008. It's rougher all around and is tougher to get apart, but seems to do the shooty bang bang part roughly the same. Except for the thing shot terribly until we got that slant brake removed.
And the mag fit fit seems a bit "off" leading me to wonder whether stripper clips will actually work or not. That's a big deal to me, I love stripper clips and think they're a lot easier way to carry ammo around.
>>
>>34616580
I also enjoy strippers, but couldn't justify the money for a Czechpoint. Got the CIA for $399 way back when. It's pretty rough inside, but functions reliably.

Especially when their general kit build Romy resale value is only like $600-700 max.
>>
>>34617023
nobody wants to buy garage built AKs cause you don't know if they're shit or not, so of course it's going to be less in value then what it costs to build.

Got my Norinco back from the gunsmith today, he put on a new FSB so I can use a muzzle break.

NEW QUSTION THEN - The muzzle is a little loose, it doesn't tighten all the way down it just lets that notch on the FSB lock it in on the third turn.

God damn it this sent early somehow fuck. Anyway, the muzzle is loose, and pic related it locks in on the third turn and that's as far on as I can get it. It wobbles slightly, and I had to take the muzzle off to sight it in otherwise it'd hang off to the left. I can actually see the movements in my bore sight reflected by putting pressure on the muzzle.

So the question is is this normal and fine or should I put some thread tape on it to make it tighter or is there something else I should do? I'm bringing it to the range tomorrow.

>>34617122
It was the only option I had for a muzzle. I like the half moon style anyway. My state requires semi auto rifles to be made before 94 if i want them to not be gimped.

But that's my question m8.
Why do kits cost $500 when they've got no resale value after being built?
You're literally losing out on $200 by building a kit if you wanted to offload it later.

Seems like supply and demand would self regulate to the point that built-price would equal building-price, or at least be close.
I reckon a normal Romanian kit should be closer to $200-300 to make it viable to even want to build one.
>>
>>34616934
That guy is also on /akg/

His info on the M39 is wrong though, Sakos are actually the most common (even more Sakos made than VKTs) and not the more rare version

$525 plus shipping is also on the high end for that rifle
>>
>>34617172
I guess just cause they aren't viable to build and sell. I don't know economics man, I just shoot cool looking rifles.

(((Arsenal))) put fucking 14mm threads on their 107R series. Are there any 74 muzzle brakes that come with 14mm threads or thread adapters that go on without extending the overall length and looking ugly as fuck?
>>
>>34617175
that's me, I actually thought Sakos were less available. I'll do some research and if that's true i'll change it. And i'm just going to start at 525 and drop it down little by little, not in a rush to sell so might as well see what happens.
>>
>>34617189
Don't bother IMO, there are plenty of good 14mm options without trying to make the rifle into something it's not. Leave the 74 brakes for rifles with the proper FSB. All the 14mm brake clones and thread adapters I've seen are janky or obvious.
>>
>>34617189

14mm 74 brakes are all paperweights and don't function per the design, an expansion chamber isn't possible on 14mm threads.
>>
>>34617241
Aren't there any adapters that just cover the 14mm threads and basically expand them? They have a whole centimeter to work with after all.

Failing that whats a good 14mm muzzle device?
>>
>>34617270
also is 14mm just not good for 74's and more appropriate for 47's and that's what >>34617122
was saying? I did not see any 14mm FSB's available.

the slant brake is stupid effective for what it is, night brake is nice too.
>>
>>34617270

Well, what do you want?
Flash hiding, recoil reduction, a little of both? How loud is too loud? Are you OK with something heavy or do you want to keep it light?
>>
>>34617296
Some guy above was saying the slant brake was causing cheek slap and he hated it, is this an issue?

>>34617304
Primarily recoil reduction, I like to rapid fire
>>
>>34617216
$525 isn't too off, someone could still buy it for that. I'd sit on it at $525 and slowly come down to around $475ish. Looking at your pics it looks nice, Finnshit in original condition that hasn't been arsenal refinished is cooler imo. What do the stock splices look like? That appears to be a prewar/wartime stock but the splices are a giveaway

It's kind of weird with M39s, VKTs are less desirable than Sakos but there were fewer VKTs made than Sakos. It's kind of backwards than what you'd expect

Long before I was an AK autist I was a Finnish Mosin autist, not anymore but I still like them

Yeah that's a prewar/wartime stock, the splices were originally rounded like that then they were squared off post war

The Sako markings play a part in it but also just Sako's reputation and being a known name even today. There is little to no difference quality wise between the two. Year of production play a huge role too, for example if your rifle was a VKT it'd be borderline unicorn rare as there were very very few 1943 VKT M39s made. Condition does too, the majority of VKTs were arsenal refinished post war so original wartime condition VKT M39s are more uncommon than original wartime condition Sakos (again, depending on year of production)

I'm under the impression that AB is impossible to get into. Also technically baka.bt is closed to new members now. So exclusive. exclusively shit

Also my internet connection is dogshit so I could never maintain a good ratio in a private tracker anyways

>maintain a good ratio in a private tracker
It really stresses me out, I was a member or what.cd for a number of years and tried so hard to keep it good but eventually I just stopped caring because the act of keeping a good ratio subtracted a lot from the enjoyment of finding new misic, then what.cd was kill and I haven't been a part of any others since

Private trackers can be really nice to be a part of, but honestly it's a lot of dumb shit you've got to do to be "worth your weight" in them

Is IRC still a thing? I used to do fansub shit and got all of my releases from distro bots or private FTPs as soon as the groups released it, most of the time before the torrents even went up.

I don't watch anime anymore though, so I have no idea if this is how they still do things.
