With the passage of HB 1935 in Texas going into effect in September, I find it my duty to finally buy a bowie knife since I will now be able to legally carry it.
I'm willing to spend some decent money on it as I want it to be a fairly quality piece, not just some crap. At the same time it's not going to be an EDC knife, nor an overly intricate wall-hanger.
I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Cold Steel 1917 Frontier bowie knife.
Now, I've never owned a Cold Steel knife before and I know they're pretty gimmicky and their quality can be spotty (not to mentioned I endured the entirety of colsteelfag's reign of terror on this board). However, as I mentioned above, it's more or less going to be a novelty knife.
Any other knives or brands I should consider? I'm trying to keep it fairly traditional looking with a blade around 10" long that's fairly wide.
Budget is something like $50-$150, though I'd like to spend right around $100 (which is where the Cold Steel 1917 falls).
Thanks for the help.

no

kek
I thought about a few I'd seen that were like that, and they all had blades over 16" or something like that.
While the new legislation does allow for swords, I want this to be a knife (getting a M1913 cavalry saber to fill my need for a sword, lol).
What's the best way to wear my 1862 cav sabre around?

I was lucky enough to have my original leather scabbard (I have an 1822 pattern infantry sabre)
I can fit my through a belt loop, but a sword belt would definitley be better.

Carry it on your back like a weeb. Confuse everybody
But no, a good pistol belt should be very sufficient

I know Cold Steel is a crap company and it's the reason why I've never bought one.
However, that knife you linked to looks like absolute crap. Not in terms of quality, but the design is just gross.
As I said, it's not going to be a knife I use for serious purposes. It just has to look nice and not feel like absolute shit.
Also, from what I understand, it's not made by Cold Steel themselves, Windlass Cutlery makes it. Even though they're poo-in-the-loos, the quality is fairly decent from what I understand.

Thanks for being the only person in this thread that actually provided a suggestion.
I love the way those knives look; they have a very rustic and old-fashioned (forgive me for the lack of a better word, I'm very tired and drunk) look to them. They're a bit more than what I'd like to spend, but I'll still consider them

Another anon here. I've seen some videos about them on YouTube and they do look to be very high quality. I do, however, highly recommend the cold steel as well. I've owned a few of cold steels newer products and they are of great quality.

Look at Muela and Boker as well. Also Condor. Pic related is good for historical appeal but you won't find a real one that's reasonably priced.
Best available 1860/1917 Saber?
Alternatively, I'd like to find something in a shorter length (~27") that would be more conducive to getting into and out of a vehicle.

Bowie knives almost always have that guard. What would you have instead?
It's time to shave your neck beard op

Thanks for the input.

I like the way those look, I'll look into them.
Thanks for the suggestion.
>>34615068
No they don't. It's a distinct variant, but the most common is the S shaped guard.

Joke's on you, it's already shaved. Gotta hide my power level
>>34613371
why does one part of the hand guard go up and the other part go down?

Beautiful knife and beautiful trips.
I was looking at the Case models, they seem to be made well and look great.

any good ones?

The poos actually are known for making pretty good blades, as well as exceptionally shitty ones, however windlass is good
Not quite a traditional bowie, but you could strip it and find some after market scales and a leather sheath...and at least it wouldn't be some chinese piece of shit.
Knives are for murder, not fighting. Slashing angers and scares but does not kill. Get a big stilleto. Two edges. Spear tip. 9 inches or more. Heavy guard you can push against.
