While we're on the subject, does anybody know of any good tank sims? Steel Beasts comes to mind, but I'm not entirely sure what to make of that one.

Obviously World of Tanks and War Thunder are not what I have in mind, else I'd be asking /v/.

Steel Beasts is THE autists choice when it comes to tank sims but it is priced thereafter and requires a dongle.
It is pretty much DCS for tanks, their main user base is military training.

T-34 vs Tiger (great realism, modeled interiors, controls, sounds)
Iron Warriors: T72-Tank Command (destructible terrain, entrenching)
Steel Armor : Blaze of War (tactics and realism, modeled interiors)

Note that all these games have a physics engine, unlike Steel Beasts.

Steel Beasts Pro is a goodun. But it isn't really a tank sim, more Company level strategic fighting. Then you have Steel Armor: Blaze of War and Basra '86, which are hyperlevels of tank simulator. Only has a few tanks, though. Like the Chieftain, Patton and T-62
