$300 will get you a basic 10/22 and a shit ton of ammo. $600 wilk get you a basic AR (no reason get get anything other than a ruger or s&w these days) and a decent amount of ammo. Practice your fundamentals, just blasting away at the range or leaving it in your closet doesn't do you any good. What branch do you wanna do rotc in? I did army and I'm an armor officer now

It's a russian bolt action and you can get them really cheap. If you don't have experience with firearms then it'll be a lot easier to learn with something simple, or at least i think so.
