Post your SKS(s), ask questions, do whatever.

I picked this SKS-D up the other day and it's basically unused from what I can see/was told. Problem is a few of my steel surplus mags don't fit easily/at all when loaded, but will fit fine when un/underloaded. Anyone else experience this or know what can be done to correct it?
>>
They tend not to lock in full loaded unless you hold the action open, nothing you can do about it. Also if the locking tab on the mag is too thick it's not going to lock. I have one and actually have just stuck with those cheap-ass Korean mags, they lock in and run fine
>>
>>34604960

It's weird because i have about 9 of these mags, 4 lock in flawlessly while loaded, two seem to be a little finicky and 3 just won't lock in at all. They're all Euro mags.

It came with a 5 round mag and no bayonet. Im guessing its an awb era sks.. I had the 30 rounder laying around that I intend on keeping in on it considering fixed mags are like $40.

>>34605191
Bayonet was not included. Technically it would be $342 after I had the bayonet shipped from ebay
>>
>>34605226

>>
>>34605190

How are these? It's weird seeing a yugo without the grenade launching setup

>>34605246

That's...strange.

The steel duckbills are hit and miss reliability-wise I've found.
>>
>>34605254
Yee
>>
>>34605282
Definatly was odd. Considering the 5 rounder was a little box that barely poked out the bottom. I was actually hoping someone on here knew...

I have heard the same elsewhere about the duckbills. This one was really tight getting in. So tight that I had to work it in and hold the bolt back while I got my girlfriend to release the mag catch to snap it into place. I have no intentions on removing said magazine and just using the gun for its intended purpose of running around in the woods and loading it with strippers
>>
>>34605338

Can you post a picture of the 5 rounder?

I once had an SKS with a tapco 20 rounder in it that didn't cooperate well with stripper clips. I don't know if it'd be the same with your steel mag.
>>
>>34605385
Im at work right now, but I can post a pic in about 3 hours when I get home. It was steel though and it was duckbilled. It looked exactly like a factory 10 rounder except shorter and had an oversized flat floorplate

>>
>>34605438

Yeah, someone removed the original fixed mag to put that in there I'm guessing. To my knowledge SKS's never came stock with duckbills.
>>
>>34605454
I didnt think so. I plan to take it out this weekend to run the 30 I put on it and see how it performing. Im hoping it will be solid considering the lack of wiggle involved in the magwell
>>
My /26\ came with a Bubba'd stock that I replaced, but the replacement has no mount for a sling. Am I screwed or is there a piece I can buy and drill in?
>>
So the other day I took my newly bought sks to the range, put about 120 rounds through it. Took it home and cleaned it, and the gas piston had built up so much soot by the wide end that it had difficulty coming out of the gas tube. I managed to wipe/solvent/fine sandpaper off most of it, so that it slides easy again, but has anyone else had this issue? I even had some blowback soot around the grenade/gas tube area (yugo sks). Please let me know what I can do, or if this is an uncommon issue and how I can fix it.
>>
>>34605905
I would imagine you could just use an AK sling mount held in by two small screws

Does anybody know how a blade bayonet will fit a spike stock? I've always been curious if they're interchangeable or if stocks made for blade bayonets have a deeper groove.

Pic related is my Norinco, got it about a year ago now, $350 at a gun show.

What did you grind off and where? I finished restoring my /26\ to mostly-original condition recently but still have the detachable magazines. I haven't had serious problems with them yet (but I have a promag 30-rounder that completely refuses to chamber) but making them more reliable is always better, I had two FTFs out of about 160 shots fired last time I went to the range.
>>
>>34611620
thats a pretty SKS
>>
>>34611620
I grinded off a tiny bit off from under the feedlips this allows the bullets to be pushed up ever so higher and have a better angle to be chambered. My experience with the crapcos is mainly the first round wont chamber, but after it does they fire fine. Ill test it more at the range
>>

Thank you, I want to add a sling to it but I'm not sure whether a '67 model would have the sling on the side or on the bottom...and whether the swivel I ordered will even let me put it on the bottom.

Recently got a 1XXXXX serial number Chinese SKS and the condition of the stock and wear of the metal makes me want to believe it saw combat at some point in its life. >>34619106
kinda, the first round fired on its own when I closed the bolt once. must have had oil in the firing pin channel.
>>
>>34605452
So basically, if you use them with a mag, you have to load it according to what it would have taken to begin with, or it'll not load right.
>>
>>34619106
Ive heard about it. Seems to be caused by the firing pin sticking due to cosmoline or other gunk. If you take the bolt out of the gun and shake it the firing pin should rattle a bit.

So i know this is going to get a bunch of not enough info replies. But my brother has a yugo? sks and it worked fine we cleaned it when he got it shot it it worked cleaned it again put it away. A couple month later we shoot it and it jammed shut. OK, Maybe a bad shell shot it a couple more times Worked fine then kept jamming shut but those were just fixed my manually pulling the bolt back. Whatever put it away let me clean it when we get back. Cleaned it nothing was out of place I didn't even see any scratch marks where it would be rubbing. His friend took it out and he said he shot it and the bolt wouldn't move at all and had to beat it back with his hand. Does anyone know of anything that could be wrong?

>>34622058
If it is a Yugo, are you sure that the gas tube is not shutoff for the grenade launcher? If the gas is cut off it will not cycle, although I do not know why the bolt would be hard to pull back. If I had to guess, I would say that there is some left over cosmoline in the chamber that is causing a sticky bolt. This happened to my mosin when I first got it. Check the gas tube for a little sliding button. It should look like pic related, blocking the grenade sights from flipping up. Clean the chamber really good, fuck around with the button, and let us know if it still fails to work.

WHAT IN FUCK IS DONE TO THIS POOR RIFLE? STUPID HICK AMERICAN WITH TEN GALLON HAT AND GIANT PICKUP TRUCK LOOKS AT PERFECTLY FINE SIMONOV KARBIN AND SAYS "NO, RIFLE NEED MORE DUMB SHIT ON IT"?

WHAT IS REASON FOR PISTOL GRIP? IF YOU NEED TO FIRE FROM HIP IN EMERGENCY, NOW HAND IS TWISTED INTO PAINFUL ANGLE AND YOU MISS EVERY ENEMY! LOOK AT WRONG ANGLE OF BAYONET! LOOK AT CHEAP PLASTIC MAGAZINE THAT FEEDS CARTRIDGE LIKE CONSTANTLY JAMMING PEZ CANDY BOX! WHERE DID CLEANING STICK GO?

I HEAR OF 922 LAW IN AMERICA. ADDING PISTOL GRIP TO WEAPON MEANS YOU CHANGE OTHER PARTS. WHAT ELSE YOU FUCK? YOU PUT NEW BOLT EDIFICE? HOW ABOUT BAD FIT RECEIVER COVER FOR CHEAP SCOPE TO SHOW OFF AT HICK PARTY AND NEVER HIT LARGEST SIDE OF BARN?

SURE, IS ONLY YUGOSLAV COPY TYPE BUT IS STILL PROUD DESIGN OF SERGEI SIMONOV. THIS IS LIKE SENDING HIM BIRTHDAY CARD WITH SEVERED OFF THUMB OF DAUGHTER IN ENVELOPE. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY SERGEI! I PISS ON ALL YOU CREATE!" LARGE MOUND FORMS OVER SIMONOV'S GRAVE BY CONSTANT TUMBLING OF HIS ANGRY CORPSE. IS FAULT OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

RIFLE WAS FINE BEFORE YOU FUCK IT. NOW IS TRASH. MAYBE YOU CHECK IN GARAGE AND ORIGINAL BOLT EDIFICE AND WOOD ARE STILL THERE. MAYBE IS NOT TOO LATE TO KEEP RIFLE SOMETHING NOT SHAMEFUL TO TAKE TO FIRING RANGE. TAKE SHIT OF GOAT AWAY AND COULD STILL BE GOOD WEAPON

It really depends on the location of the crack and how you initially glued it.
You have to spread the crack then put woodglue in it, close it and let it set. 9/10 the crack will never re-open. Adding a screw is unnecessary and will look terrible. If you do pre-drill the hole and use a brass screw and chop the head off, then sand it flush so it looks like a factory re-enforcing pin

>$500 seems to be the standard for Tulas.

That was what I paid for my 1950 Tula a couple years back.

This thing absolutely rapes what little balance and handleability the SKS has even worse than those cheapo collapseable and folding stocks you see on 90% of bubbas. if you want a better stock just buy a polymer or hardwood fixed stock. Either will be a massive improvement over the stock chu wood. If you have the burning need to look silly, the dragunov-style polymer stocks are pretty solid if still not as comfy as a traditional fixed stock

For an SKS, pretty much nothing. They're featureless, so they don't have to be registered with that new "assault weapon" law. Don't try to install a larger-than-10-round magazine or pistol grip. There ya go. They sell them at Big 5. Go get one.

This doesn't help.

Friend of mine told me I can generally find an sks for cheaper than an AR, but I can't seem to find one for under 400 unless it's in "needs repair" condition. What do you experts think?
