When I was in middle school, I got lost in a crafts store looking for stuff for a school project. I found these huge plastic beads shaped liked little 40w bulbs, but must've been twice as big and very heavy. I bought one and taped it to a piece of printer paper I folded over and over again to give it a flat handle. Then I wrapped the whole assembly in heavy duty duct tape. My first ever EDC item: a homemade folding baton. I carried that thing everywhere. I showed someone after school and when I gave it to him to look at, he hit me with it (it worked! and hurt a lot) and told me that it was his booty-whipper now. He threw it away after I ran for it trying to save my ass, and thinking back he probably did me a huge favor. Been looking for a telescopic baton since but never settled on one. Rather just stick with my knives and swords.

I've always liked the idea/ aesthetic of a baseball bat. However, it's not really something you can carry around in most situations. Also, wooden vs. aluminum, I have no clue what is better.

Reminds me of a story from my childhood.

I'm probably about 14 in my church's youth room, with some friends. We're having a pool noodle fight. The noodles were cut into about 3' sections to optimize them for hitting each other. It's a great way to hit each other as hard as you can without doing any real damage.

Well, somebody finds a broken broom handle, and figures out that if you stick it into the noodle it'll stiffen it and you can hit people a lot harder. This obviously became the power weapon that everyone feared and wanted to steal.

Somehow or another I came to possess the broom handle. I was going HAM on the guy who originally found it. He was running away and I reared back for a smack across his back. Mid swing the pool noodle flies off, and I bring the broom handle down as hard as I can onto his back.

It was the worst I've ever injured someone. He fell to the floor screaming and writhing. He had a huge bruise within minutes. He reclaimed the broom handle and I thought he was literally going to kill me with it.

so how well would an inch and quarter dowel topped with an iron pipe fitting hold up?
Asking because I have some left over parts from replacing my sink and I might as well find a fitting way to smash all this old porcelain.

Yay, another place I get to post this POS. It's just an old, weather-worn baseball bat with about $8 worth of chain wrapped around it with screws holding it on. The chain gives it a nice weight and it swings beautifully.

One of my customers is a reformed convict from a UK prison.

Years ago there was a famous murderer who ended up in the same block as my customer and ended up taking a fancy to him.

My customer was warned by other inmates that he wanted to make him his bitch so he thought it was time to act.

He waited until yard time and had one of those big square batteries in a sock.

At this point I should say my customer is about 120KG, 6'1 and looks like uncle fester. The other dude is a good few inches taller and more muscular.

My customer went straight up to him and smashed him in the face with the battery in sock, other dude didn't go down. At this point he is worried he made a big mistake.

He kept swinging and basically broke all the bones in the dudes face and then ran.

Didn't have a problem being anyone's bitch after that, but quite interesting that the dude didn't go down on the first hit.

The baton is always a better option, but there is something satisfying about smashing a lens over someone's head. It's makes a nice thunk too.
