The only reason I use my 10 round mags is when I'm sighting in my optic at a bench, most of the time I'm using 20 round mags.

I like 10 rounds when shooting from the bench or prone since I can change them out without needing to flip my rifle to the side.

When shooting off a barricade or something I'll use 20 rounders for aesthetics and 30rounders when mag dumping or keeping around the house for HD

Is there any particular reason why 30 rounds has become the default standard for pretty much all SMGs and intermediate-caliber rifles?

Why has no one bothered to develop an alternative to, say, 5.56x45 in the form of a slightly longer, mildly higher pressure round with a smaller case diameter to allow something like a 33-36 round magazine to be viable? Is it simply not worth the effort?

I live rural sTX on a farm where we deal with hogs/coyotes/illegals so if someone breaks into my home it will more than likely be multiple individuals and the quickest response time for the local sheriff will be like 10-20min and the closest hospital is 20min with actual hospitals being around 70min away. I want to make sure that no matter what I come across I can take care of the event and deal with the mess after the fact.
