I don't think you understand the level of FUCKED the Lugers design is. Mechanically? Yes, it works.
Look at the documentation and try to tell me anyone would even go near attempting to make one.

The whole problem is that the entire paradigm behind hand manufacturing at the turn of the century is completely removed from any resemblance to modern machine manufacturing. The Luger requires something like 70-90 different end effectors to manufacture, and something like forty steps per part using more than half of those bits to perform them. Not fun, but not impossible by hand. Changing out the bits on a machine to do these things would require more man hours than actually making the gun. A factory set up to manufacture Lugers on a scale allowing a reasonable price point would have to be larger than most military contractors today in order to fund and house all the individual machines doing as many steps as they possibly can. Yes, it's a complete tradgedy.

I found some for like $350 at a gun show a few weeks ago.

But they're nice to use. And stylish.

>Changing out the bits on a machine to do these things would require more man hours than actually making the gun.
5 axis and an automatic tool changer. The cost has been reduced to a single operator.
>>
>>34596302
So is the Krag. Yet neither are made. They were fine when made but now they're behind the curve AND incredibly hard to make. The Luger is s Rube Goldberg machine compared to guns just 10 years younger than it
>>
>>34596355
Show me a 90-tool changer.

If you're thinking of the type that use a spindle, they don't exist. But that type that use a arm to get them from a rack or matrix, can easily house hundreds. Here is one that is neither of those designs and has ~95 (I counted and then extrapolated)

What a surprise, the Germans made an overengineered product. Who would have thought.

Incidentally, here's a beaut. I really want one, but from the looking that I've done, the barrels are typically in pretty rough shape.

If flintlocks and early wheel guns are manufactured today for relatively cheap, is it possible that in 50-100 years we'll see affordable replica Lugers and C96s?

Probably not commercially, but the 3d printing meme will have died out in 10-20 years and in about 50 years we will see home cnc start to develop.
eventually 5 axis mills become as commonplace as a tablesaw in the garage.
The trek from industry to home is a long and slow one.
>>
>>34596295
How the safety on those? mushy or nice and snappy? does it stay in position positively? thinking about getting one of the compact 2.0s whenever they finally come out.
>>
>>34597530
Very snappy. Stays in position well and takes more than accidental force to move.
>>
>>34598240
Beautiful, i've heard the gen 1s were quite the opposite.
>>
>>34598372
The gen 1 M&Ps were okay at best. A contrarian glock, really. The 2.0s are huge improvement and are heavily underrated

>>
>>34598665
Honestly i thought the gen 1s were alright guns in general and offered enough to be a viable competitor. Certainly more ergonomic(imo). That being said the safety models safeties supposedly do leave a lot to be desired.

Then again im one of those people who think that a safety is a perfectly reasonable addition to a striker fired gun, perhaps a desirable one even.
