Black powder?
I have always wanted to buy one of those flintlock trade rifle kits and try building my own
Maybe even try my hand at making my own blackpowder and blowing myself up
>>34592150
Works a lot less than white powder.
>>34592150
>>34592182
You just couldn't resist could ya!
>>34592182
Ardesa is a good brand if you are a poorfag. It's not overly pricey like Pedersoli is, and the quality and aesthetics are still good.
>>34592150
I've never really had much interest in black powder stuff, but then I started watching some of the videos by britishmuzzleloaders, capandball, and iraqveteran8888 and now something about it is really sticking with me.
There's definitely something appealing about the idea of being totally involved in every step of making a firearm work, seems like it'd be a totally different experience compared to sticking some store-bought smokeless rounds into a magazine and firing away.

>Ardesa guns
Definately the good way to go besides maybe a cheap italian 1851 to see if you even like shooting black powder. you'll always be able to upgrade later.
>>34593077
Those Pedersoli prices man...
I wanted a Civil War replica rifle to shoot for fun. A thousand bucks! Hell naw....
>>34593465
There are other options. I shoot an ArmiSport repro P1858 Enfield in competition.
Follow this link for a list of safe to shoot reproduction civil war guns:

Black power?
>>34593303
>>34595319
my girlfriends boyfriend is black
>>34593303
>black
>power
the only power they have is the power of receiving wellfare
>>34595364
I mean, I wouldn't mind that power. I'd love to have free money to spend on funs.
What's the best Brown Bess you can get? Looking for a compromise between price and quality
Was given this custom .50 cal Flintlock with a 50" barrel as a gift last year by the guy who built it. I absolutely love it.
He made the powder horn too
Something modern I got to practice with.
Do revolvers count ? I fkin love my 1858 pietta sherif, its my go to gun for camping, i make paper cartridges tho
I've loved black powder since I first tried it a few years ago. Have a 50 cal CVA Hawken and a Pietta 1860 Colt Army now, they're my favorite "quality time" guns.
Had an acquaintance offer me a .54 Thompson Center Hawken replica in good condition for $300. I passed because the conventional wisdom is they're probably only "worth" $200 to maybe $250. Kind of wish I had gotten it now just to have another rifle for the collection and another fun excuse to shoot.

Inline rifles just seem wrong to me.
some glorious /k/ommando shows up at the range wearing this
I'll be getting two 1858s, a 1851 and a pepperbox to restore and play around with this week. That will make ten so far.
I have been interested in getting a flintlock because percussion caps bother me for some reason. Are there any of those around that aren't either antiques or terrible?
>>34595346
You'll end up supporting his ass one way or the other. At least your girl gets something out of it!
well finally a BP thread, question. How do you figure out the right patch thickness?

>>34598823
Not to be a smart ass but maybe the right ball!?!?
>>34598823
You try different thicknesses and see which one your gun likes the most.
>>34598849
>right ball
Patched roundball is how it was usually done with longarms. either paper, linin or even leather was used.
picked up some of this shit cause it was the only thing in stock, seems really coarse for FFg, although ive never fucked with BP before.
loading for black powder 12ga brass shotshells, do i load it the same by weight as any other FFg.
what are some other substitutes that will work with 12ga cowboy brass?
>>34598891
>usually done with longarms
My bad, I keep forgetting that.
>>34598922
Shockeys is pretty inconsistant as far as substitutes go. but it's also a very forgiving powder. load it the same as you would other powders. be sure to check it every few months to see if it clumps up.
I've had my Great Plains .54 cal listed for sale and get nothing but spam and retards.
>>34599017
you'd get spam and retards regardless, tbhwuf.
my favorite selling experience was a semi auto .22 i sold. i remember one guy got angry for absolutely no reason other than the fact that i wouldn't sell the gun for 50 bucks and some of his wife's cooking.
>>34598823
I use .223 cleaning patches as ball patches in my .50 Hawken rifle
>>34599076
>.223 cleaning patches
huh. I can't believe i havn't thought about that before.
>>34598823
Seriously Man, sorry bout that. With all the castings that are around I forget that there is a dia for everything now.
>>34599158
if no one replies assume no one cares
>>34599188
Whatever man.
>>34595714
A used Pedersoli. Some of the old Jap repros are fine too. Current production Pajeet builds are cheap and not likely to blow up anymore but sacrifice fit and finish as well as parts quality for the price.
>>34598922
Get yourself some Trail Boss and ditch that jim shockey garbage. You could also use Triple Seven. Stay away from Pyrodex.
Using proper black powder is easy, especially in a sxs, o/u or break action shotgun. Flush the barrel(s) with boiling water and wipe clean with ballistol on cotton patches. Treat your brass the same way. Holy Mother Black is much more fun.
>>34598823
You calculate the best by comparing the bore diameter with ball diameter and patch thickness.
50cal bore plus .495 roundball could use a .003in patch. You should leave a little space to account for fouling accumulation if you plan on firing more than one shot before wiping the bore.
T. Blackpowder enthusiast
Can someone please just tell me if I can own a black powder canon? I live Illinois and I've read and heard conflicting replies.
;_; I just want to be able to defend against naval assaults.
>>34601638
Unless there is a law in illinois that specifically prohibits muzzle loading cannons, they're treated exactly the same as regular black powder firearms.
I love my Thompson .50 Hawken Rifle.
>>34601660
Fuck yes
Now the question is where hell do I buy good quality cannons?
>>34602433
Good luck affording one.

This is also a good one if you're being serious.

Thank you for the links. I just got a new job and I have a hefty amount of spare cash now. I live on the lake and I've always wanted a cannon over look it. I'll post pics on /k/ when I get it set up right
>>34602433
>buying a cannon
Be a real /k/ommando and make one.
I'm pretty sure it's not legal in Australia to own a cannon, but if I could, I'd be blasting shit like cars and fridges to pieces every weekend.

black bike
>>34602554
