Are pilots modern-day knights?
sky cavalry
>>34592124
no
they're pilots.
What makes you think that?
>>34592132
soon to go the way of regular cavalry
>>34592142
They'll need sky commander pilots to lead them
>>34592124
yes
>>34592124
Only if they're Belkans
>>34592132
So they are becoming obsolete in the next major conflict?
>>34592267
that's a funny way of saying Emmerians

I don't know buddy, are you?
>>34592288
I'm ready for AC7
Anybody here play assault horizons?
>>34592302
I have it on PC and it's pretty buggy
Is this the Ace Combat thread?
>>34592302
>mfw DFM mode
It would have been fine without that bullshit. The music is awesome, the graphics are nice, and the plot is passable in a "I´ve read this in a Tom Clancy book before" way.
>>34592124
Pretty much, yes. A lot of air forces have knights orders for their pilots.
>>34592142
>>34592275
No because even if everyone is using lasers (which are difficult if not impossible to evade) air combat then becomes a stealth game based around keeping your heat signature down, and staying low enough so your vehicle doesn't pop above the enemy's horizon. This is true even with drones, because drones will eventually be built small enough to be deployed from a larger mothership. This all would require enough coordination and thinking skills that the role of "pilot" would still be necessary.
Point is, lasers and missiles don't make aircraft (or their pilots) obsolete because ultimately the military puts them on aircraft anyway.
>>34592124
Yes.

Air Force is full of LARP'ers who don't understand terms like combined arms, economy of force and modern army.

Is bombing civilians from the safety of a plane is close to being a knight?
Neck yourself please.
>>34592142
now imagine that as a sort of ICBM shield
>>34594218
Knights weren't exactly the nicest of people 2bh
>>34592142
If they made them all launch more rapidly, it would be a lot more impressive looking.

How bad is the flight modeling on Arma 3?
>>34594264
What does Arma 3 have to do with anything.
It's pretty shitty.
>>34594246
This, Knights often were tax collectors and really looked down on the lower casts.
>>34594275
You're discussing all the other sims, I just wondered how the flight modeling of Arma 3 stacked up.
Anyone else care to weigh in?
>>34594218
Is riding down peasants from the safety of an armored horse close to being a pilot?
>>34594298
Not well. Order is
God tier:
>X-Plane, IL-2/ROF, KSP with FAR installed
Good tier:
>DCS
Okay tier:
>FSX, CFS series, most cheap simulators
-the non-focus milsim wastelands. Arma goes here-
Fun arcade tier:
>Ace Combat, crimson skies, GTA (fixed wing)
Shit arcade tier:
Ace Combat Assault Horizon, GTA (rotor wing)
-the non-focus arcade wastelands. Battlefield goes here-
Basically I'd say Arma 3, as a flight simulator, falls somewhere between grand theft auto and FSX, but closer to GTA
Who /Belka/ here?
>>34592124
Where the fuck is AC7?
>>34594430
Got any more of these faux-historical pictures? I was always somewhat dissatisfied with the lack of authentic looking material like combat footage and photos the "Warriors and the Belkan War" documentary in Zero had.
>>34592124
no. Knights were nobility and in addition to their martial roles as mounted warriors, they also were in charge of running the little villages they were given to support them called "fiefs". Pilots are not feudal lords - do not have peasants to feed him and for him to rule, nor does the pilot have squires that are studying to become pilots one day like him too.

What the fuck is up with the intake on that F-15?
More or less:
Fast, hit- and -run tactics, well educated, expensive equipment, large support staff, slowly being eroded from relavance by advancing technology.

Why does japan insist on drawing such stupid shit?
>>34594395
You forgot BMS in god tier
>>34594395
The only things really wrong with DCS is somewhat unrealistic missile kinematics modelling, poor electronic warfare modelling and spotting problems (problem inherent to lo Res 2d screens).
KSP (with FAR -and AJE imo-) is cool because you can make your own stuff, but I've found that the more you learn about aircraft design, the more limiting the simulation feels; many common design staples simply don't work well because of the lack of a fluid dynamics modelling system (ye i know, probably impossible with the way the game/engine works). Atleast in other Sims (ie Xplane, DCS, IL2) flight models atleast pretend to simulate things like vortex effects, boundary layer modifiers, ground effect ect.
>>34594935
It's simply too sophisticated for your uncultured mind to comprehend.
>>34594657
All of that stacks up with pilots, Pilots are all officers, pilots are essentially the support of AFB's, have a bunch of enlisted that have to fix the pilots plane even if they piss inside the cockpit and ROTC students are squires
>>34594935
The Japanese have collectively gone insane because their society is so repressive.

>>34592142
You ever seen Gradius? Drones will always be nothing more than cannonfodder and extended weapons pods, no match for a manned vehicle other than sheer number.
>in flight school
>also really like medieval games
Maybe I was a Knight in a past life. I can picture it now. I've substituted cutting down filthy saracens with my sword, to hopefully bombing them.

FSX flight dynamics are derived from static config files and very rudimentary. Many stock aircraft don't even support aerodynamic stalls correctly, relying instead on airspeed alone. Engine simulation is also somewhat simplified, as are other systems, though this depends on the aircraft. Good payware can be very good in the systems department. Weather simulation disregards terrain and will not produce mountain turbulence, ridge lift wave lift, or rotor clouds. VTOLs are unsupported (hacky add-on solutions aside), as are aerostats. X-plane is effectively a digital wind tunnel (or as close as practical), and does almost all of this though I don't know that its capable of rotor clouds specifically). Unfortunately it isn't very user friendly and has a very small add-on library consisting almost entirely of payware. Good payware, but payware. Both games are equally comfy for long haul flights and look good in VR.
The short version is FSX cuts a lot of corners, but will give you a reasonable simulation as long as you're flying in a normal envelope (not aerobatics, slow flight, etc). It is, however, much nicer to use than X-plane. FSX is my main despite the limitations. Consider add-ons like accufeel to take up some of the slack
