"It's just another one of them worthless Natsee guns. Ain't nuthin wrong with puttin a new stock on it." - Bubba on the K98k, circa 1960
"It's just another one of them worthless Commie guns. Ain't nuthin wrong with puttin a Tapco stock and a red dot on it." - Bubba on the SKS, circa 1995
"It's just another one of them worthless commie guns. Ain't nuthin wrong with cutting down the barrel and paintin it zombie green." - Bubba on the Mosin-Nagant, circa 2008
Every time that cheap milsurp has come into this country, retards and fudds have conflated availability and cost with quality, and destroyed thousands of perfectly good firearms in the process. What should be done to stop this? Especially since we are already past "peak milsurp", and there is very little to no new milsurp being put on the market, this is a big problem. Should there be a special license required to buy milsurp?
Also post any milsurps you have recently acquired. Needless to say, no bubbas allowed
OP here. Just got a new Makarov and a Beretta 92S. I haven't shot the Mak yet, but the 92 is very smooth. Both were in great condition, and the 92S is a real value at $300 because a new 92FS goes for $500. pic related
I also have noticed that this meme is always the first thing out of Bubba's mouth after being confronted. They should have their "#2A" rights taken away

Con somebody tell me why these threads are the best part of my day?
Semi related but I bought an m1 garand with a bandolier of '68 lake city. Out of curiosity I decided to try to cycle through one of the en blocs but I had a FTE on the second round. After looking at it I'm pretty sure the bolt didn't get into battery and the cartridge was stuck in the chamber (I had to slam down the buttstock like mortar-clearing it to get it out). I tried another en bloc and same thing with the second round. I just bought some modern sellier and bellot m2 ball with new en blocs so I'm hoping that'll avoid the issue but if not any idea what's causing it?

Whats the difference between an Arisaka 99 and 38 safety knob?
I bought a 38 for cheap but its missing the knob. Best I've been able to determine is the 38s might have a long bump where the 99s have a notch. And obviously the 99s will come welded occasionally.
Same question for the firing pin. I have one, but I can't guarantee its from a 38 since its not stamped matching.

>>34601007
You'll probably still end up spending over $500. I spent $400 on the gun last month and happened to have an extra stock I picked up years ago (I think I got two sets for $300). Have you thought about Czech Mausers? In my opinion they match German Mausers in quality and accuracy.

And I'd be totally fine with a Czech one, I just don't like the handguard. If there's a way to replace it with a German style one without bubba'ing it, I'm all ears.
>>34601036

>>34601125
I believe there is also a small parts exemption for purchases under $100, but that doesn't apply here.

>>34601007
Several suggestions would be
1: get over having to get a Turkish Mauser most of them are great
2: try and get a Russian capture, good luck for <$500 though
3: buy a Yugo, 98/48 or m48 are both great and still have the German aesthetics.
4: buy a south American contract mauser made in Germany
>>34601136
I've been looking to un-fuck one of my Gew 98's for about a year. Stocks will run at least $200. Handguards $25, barrel bands at least another $40 etc... I usually end up spending more money but I feel good about bringing something back to the way it's meant to be. The thrill of finding the parts after searching for months is fun too. Also I can sometimes make a little bit of money back or even break even by selling the incorrect/bubba parts.

that's pretty inspiring. I'm getting a 1909 Kar98 (a/az?) with a mannlicher stock that I'd like to convert into a K98az configuration, or something close. I somewhat know what I need, looks similar to this, not many better images on the net unfortunately.
>>34600663
how is the vetterli? there's one at my LGS but I hear they're "unshootable"
>>34603095
Check to see if there's any evidence of paint on the gun, if it's a British gun and there's yellow or red paint that's bad.

You can shoot them if you reload and get yourself 8mm lebel brass and some other stuff
So just borderline unshootable
>>34604466
You can convert them to center fire and then reload for them
>>34604466
Originally they were rimfire and used 10.4x38 black powder (310grs at 1300fps). You can convert the rifles to centerfire by drilling a hole in the bolt face and making your own firing pin, it's not that hard. The hard part is the ammo. You have to fire form 8mm level into 10.4x42, I use a cast 255gr .429 Keith projectile with 45gr's of 3f powder and cream of wheat filler. It has to be a 42mm case length to properly seat and crimp the bullet. It's one of my favorite surpluss rifles to shoot, there's something about black powder and brass casings.
Tl;Dr- it's shootable but requires some work and tough reloading shit

Can't you form from .358 Win?
>>34604753
>>34604769
are the 6.5 carcano conversions safe to fire?
>>34604799
Yea but 8mm lebel's rim is closer to 10.4swiss.
>>34604810
Wait a few weeks and I'll let you know
>>34604842
PPU and military 6.5 are out. The Swiss veterlli is designed to contain 20,000 CUP at the chamber, assuming the Italian veterlli is the same 6.5 generates a lot more then 20,000 cup (nearly twice as much). I'm gonna cast some lead (undersized) and work my way up to at least a supersonic load.
>>34604943
The PPU bullets are already undersized for the Carcano. You could just pull the bullets and change the powder.
>>34605051
Running an undersized jacketed bullet (.264 my Italian vet gauges at .268) will have more pressure then a cast lead and lubed of the same size. The barrels only sleeved in place.
>>34602513
>keep putting off C&R because I think all the surp deals are gone
>keep finding deals
fuuuuuuuuuuuu
>>34605356
Didn't they use the same Tubata method they used on the Carcano? I haven't heard of any Carcani having issues with the sleeve. I understand the chamber pressure issue. But the Carcano does fine with the Italian method of sleeving a bore

>I might cut the barrel down a couple more inches to be actual Carbine length, and make kind of a Carbine clone out of it.
Since it's already "ruined" I'd buy a repro full length stock, cut that down a bit, and make a neat fantasy intermediate length rifle out of it. Since it's already bubba'd it'd be cool to have some fun with it.
There's a talented machinist youtuber called mosinvirus, who bought a bubba'd 1895 Winchester and made a really cool short rifle with it.

I'm looking for sporterized milsurp. Is making a post on armslist likely to just get flooded with $400 Mosins in ATI stocks?

What was R Guns charging for a Yugo M48? I ask because I live nearby and they still have 15 or so, which aren't listed on their site, for $250. This seems like a good deal, but the bores are too full of cosmoline to tell the condition so I'm a little concerned about buying what could be their crappy leftovers
