>NEW DELHI — India has begun discreet negotiations with France for the purchase of 31 grounded strike fighters previously used by the French Air Force.
>Buying 40 year old beat to shit Jaguars that haven't flown since 2005
Indian procurement continues to amaze and impress me.

>I know, lets buy some aircraft that are antiquated as fuck and have no support system. That'll work.
T B H I feel bad, they're procurement system is so broken. They have what? 4-5 different kinds of supply chains for their military, each from a different country?
Why? Just why?
>>34578125
It's 'cause their domestically produced stuff just is not up to snuff. Look at their rifle program for starters
>>34578125
TBF they already fly Jaguars and are planning to upgrade them, I just consider these particular Jaguars a bad buy because they're most likely in absolutely terrible condition, and buying more Jaguars when they should be considering a new aircraft (such as the Su-34 if they want a bomb truck that bad) or simply allowing the Su-30 and Rafales to take the role seems pretty silly.
Why not just get the grippen like every other poorfag nation?
>>34578058
It's called bribery.
India buys a small order (20-50) of absolutely everything for everyone.
They have british, french, american, russian and even chinese aircraft in their air force, most of them don't fly after delivery.
It's actually funny seeing the squadrens on the chinese border where they have tried to use the jets they bought on a whim. Sometimes ten mixed aircraft, only five of them airworthy with disdainful pilots and non inter-serviceable equipment.
I've read about squadrons with MiGs, F16s and Entards all flying together in the same ad-hoc unit and they all have to communicate to the ground since they've no secure comms to each other by design
Good to side that the Indian Airforces has finally decided to diversify their fleet of aircraft
>>34578220
It won't be truly diverse until they fly both the F-35 and PAK FA.
>>34578058
Probably spares for their old fleet of Jags
>>34578165
>because they're most likely in absolutely terrible condition,
They're not buying them from a 3rd world nation
>>34578204
Maybe they just love Ace Combat?
Also, they should try to add some SAAB, gotta catch them all!
>>34578058
Are these just for parts to cannibalize? They can't possibly be considering FLYING these things right?
>>34578300
>Also, they should try to add some SAAB, gotta catch them all!
They're already lining them up for bribes as we speak.

>The government official refused to comment on the price offered by France for the Jaguar fighters, but did say India is actively considering acquiring them after proper refurbishment.
>after proper refurbishment
Looks like they want to fly them, not use them as spares.
>>34578441
Props to the French for getting money for something I expected to rot in a warehouse until they junked them.
>>34578347
Despite being obsolete in combat, the Jaguar is fairly reliable and not bogged down with too many complicated proprietory systems.
They shouldn't be too hard to unbox and fly and they should be perfectly safe to do so... but no, to answers your question india will just put them in a warehouse alongside the four dozen Mirage 2000s they bought the last time the french started making noises about restricting the import of indian steel.
>>34578058
>>I know, lets buy some aircraft that are antiquated as fuck and have no support system. That'll work.
Why not, it'll go great with their carrier that was acquired the same way.
>>34578463
My assumption is they may want some quick numbers because of recent tensions with China.
>>34578479
Then why buy decades old aircraft not compatible with most of the rest of your strike-fighters?
They've already bought F16s, F18s, mirages, rafales, entards and have over 300 MiGs - all of which can perform the ground-attack role.
They're not going to fight a conflict with china, they've historically lost every conflict with them they've had in the modern era - the only reason china hasn't taken more territory is the mountainous terrain is a nightmare to hold.
Buying more planes won't make the chinese back off since they chinks already believe their equipment and doctrine will defeat the indians if tested.
>>34578525
Jaguars are also their tac nuke delivery platform.
>>34578525
>They've already bought F16s, F18s, mirages, rafales, entards
India does not use and has never used the F-16, F-18 or the Super Entard.
No idea were you are getting this from.
>>34578058
Had France not been in a hurry, they could have sold them the Clemenceau as well.
>>34579085
Not even they are mad enough to buy a carrier from the 50s.
>>34579184
Hey, the Brazilians take exception to that.
Was trying to figure out why the Tejas has a 23mm gun on it since its being codeveloped with Israel, and they make their domestic jets with 30mm DEFA cannons. The only reason I could think of was that licensing for the 23mm was the cheapest available.
>>34578058
I don't get it.
The other indian Jaguars are based off the british version, so conversion won't be easy, and the indians already have the licence to produce Jaguars.
>>34578204
I think I know what you're talking about. Frontline did a documentary about this problem a few years ago called "Black Money." The whole thing's on youtube.

This looks like a transformer lol
How long till India loses another aircraft?
POO
>>34578204
Bang on the money. India is bribe city and the french are the best in the business at bribery.
>>34578242
Navy could actually buy the F35b or F35c, their airforce want to purchase the PAK FA.
That fucking country, honest to god that country.
>>34578423
SAAB will actually do anything to make it work this time around, they just don't want to sell themselves TOO cheap.
>>34582057
probably by the end of the month at the latest, my guess would be another MiG-27
>>34578204
>F-16
>Etendard
How retarded are you?
