almost done cleaning the type 38 i bought. whoever said use a wire brush last thread i love you. that made it so much faster.
theres a few screws chewed up and some hairline cracks near the wrist that werent mentioned or shown in the pictures but i dont think its anything to worry about. the magazine latch seems stuck in place, couldnt hurt to spray some wd40 on there right?

>>34579787

>>34579818
>>34579821
I prefer the original schmidt rubin action on the 96/11, G11, and K11. However, the K31 has a better trigger. The 1911 pattern guns still have good triggers though.
Sights on the K31 are also a little better for most common shooting distances.
I'm interested in a K31, a lot. A whole lot. But I have some questions.

The demand for K31s and other Swiss rifles have exploded since 2014 in the states. Most vendors will try to sell for what >>34579862 said, but I'm sure you can find them for good deals if you keep looking
I've been buying GP11 from Midway when they have a sale at less than $0.50 a round and that sale occurs pretty frequently
What should I be expecting to pay for a good condition No.4 Enfield?
>>34579862
>>34579894
Thanks. All things I will consider. Generally speaking, what other milsurp rifles would fall into the sub-500 category that would be of any quality.
Any idea why demand has spiked?
>>34579930
Seen a really rough condition one go for 250. I would expect around the $350-450 range.
>>34579939
People realized they were really good
Also a bunch of YouTubers started making vids about em
>>34579930
400-ish if it's good condition, 500-600 for a very good to excellent conditon
650+ if it's basically flawless
LGS has a Longbranch No4 that's afaik matching and extremely clean, but with a very dark stock. The price is $499 but it's not really negotiable since it's on consignment by a customer to pay off another gun. I'm extremely tempted because NA Enfield, but the price is a bit much. Wat do?
>>34579958
Pretty much this
>>34579983
That's a good price for being both clean AND it being a Long Branch.
>>34579983
If it's in good shape and there's no significant wear and tear, you're looking at a pretty good deal desu
>>34579958
>>34579993
Fucking internet. Creating demand and shit.
In a totally unrelated topic, what would a mid 50's production Romanian M44 be worth? I happen to have one but just want to know what I have.
>>34579974
Damn, I let a mint condition, unissued Mk.III go for 560 the other day. Shouls have kept bidding.
>>34579996
Ok.
Another lgs has an 03A3 for $500 problem is it needs a follower, magazine spring and an end cap for the handguard. The bolt is smooth and it looks to be in good shape, but the stock has few or no markings and the bore is dark but serviceable. Would it be worth it to buy the replacement parts for it and buy it as is, or try and talk him down a bit? I didn't give it a very thorough inspection last time I was in tje store and would have to reevaluate it before putting any money on it
Thoughts on buying stuff off Amazon? I have Prime and want to buy some stripper clips and a sling for my Mosin, it just seems like the most efficient way.
>>34580048
No.1 Mk3 =/= No.4 Nk1
What would an early production Carcano long rifle be worth? It's a Terni with all the early production features except a case hardened bolt. It's accuracy marked with a pristine bore and has the original walnut stock
>>34580074
Go with the Enfield.
>>34579839
It's cute you think the original Schmidt-Rubins are the series 11 rifles. Col. Schmidt hated them.

but a lot of times I have seen the shit sold there to be a little more expensive than shit on gunbroker.
>>34580212
Y tho? It probably the cheapest I've seen American milsurp ever, even though I'm a bigger fan of the Enfield I'm not sure which is the better deal.
>>34580095
If you buy off of Amazon, make sure you pay close attention.
An Amazon vendor had pictures of 5 C96 clips but the sale was one clip for $8
It was a pretty decent clip though...
>>34580290
Because there are plenty of American surplus in way better shape, and for not THAT much more.
Finding a No.4 that hasn't been ridden hard and left to dry isn't easy.
>>34580248
Sure, the action on the 86/11 and 1911 was more like the original bolt than the K31. you knew what I meant, sperg.
Shitty surplus photo.
96/11, K11, K31, obligatory 91/30, FEG M44, Hakim, Turk 93 (1940), M48.

>>34580459
You have a point there friendo. Plus I like 303 more than 30-06
>>34580044
250-350, depending. That has an "02" on the stock though, which (unless someone change the stock out) means it is Hungarian (FEG). Not that it changed the value any.

Are Yugo captures the cheapest K98ks? Are there any problems with them besides having scrubbed receivers? They should be marked M98/48 correct?
>>34579710
Got two Arisaka's for $405, only complaint is that I think he mildly overrated the Type 38 carbine.
>>34579939
In addition to what the other anons said, they've also gone out of primary channels. There's no more retailers with large stocks sitting around.
>>34580559

>>34580833

They have more than one page on the enfields, I'm only posting one.
>>34580833
I'm not sure honestly. I just know the no1 mk3* and the basic no4.
>>34580139
450ish.
>>34580833
The three variants you're going to see by far the most of ar the No. 1 Mk III, the No. 4 Mk 1 and the No. 5 Mk 1.
The No. 1 dates through WW1 to the beginning of WW2 (later in places like Australia that didn't switch to No. 4s.
The No. 4 started in early WW2 and continued through the war.
The No. 5 is a carbine variant made in relatively small numbers.
The No. 1 looks the best (you can disagree, but that just means you're wrong) and it has the blunt nosecap. The No. 4 looks more "normal" with the barrel protruding and the carbine usually has a flash hider.

Not sure if it counts as surplus, but I've been interested in picking up a Beretta 9S police trade in. I was curious as to how the quality is on the guns. I know the mag release is in the heel, but are they reliable? Are many of the parts interchangeable with parts for modern berettas?

>250 bucks for M24/47 that looks to be in pretty good shape
>bore smooth and shiny like a mirror
>crown looks solid
>nice dark reddish wood, has a handful of dings and nicks but nothing serious, no worn finish
>comes with some kind of fudd aftermarket realtree sling (not swaying me at all but hey, saves me ten bucks on a modern sling while i hunt down a correct sling)
I mean at this point it's not significantly more expensive than a nugget and looks better, feels nicer in my hands, and isn't as heavy.
Is 250 a fair price? What little I've seen online about them says they're cheap but doesn't give an idea of what prices to expect.
I know this one's cheaper than any of the M48s I've seen in person, and is in better shape while also having a nicer ,thinner stock.
>>34583804
If the barrel is smooth as in not pitted and not smooth as in smoothbore then that's a good price. $300 is common.
Found a Type 38 in a pawn shop, rusted to hell but doesnt look too bad besides that. Only problem is I think its a trainer? Markings read 文三月歳 as far as I can tell.
I've never seen a Type 38 with the first character before, any idea what it means?

I've got a Garand, M1 Carbine, M1903A3, M1917 and a 1891 Carcano long rifle.
I was thinking getting some sort of Mauser. Or something more unusual. There are a couple of M24/47s and a Brazilian 1908 short rifles near me.
>>34584077
Do the numbers match? If it was Tokyo Arsenal it would be matched by an assembly number rather than the serial number. The bolt body, cocking piece, extractor, dust cover, rear sight elevator, floorplate and bayonet lug are the only places it can be seen without taking the rifle apart. Check to see if they match each other; chances are if they do then they match the receiver number too.
My rifle's bolt doesn't match, but the bayonet lug and sight number do, as does the stock and handguard.

Where did you get the 03a3 and how much? It's beautiful
Just got a bayonet for my K31.
>>34584876
>>34584819
Would you consider a Portuguese Vergueiro to be a Mannlicher? To me it's in a gray zone.
>>34584819
Yeah I was actually looking for a Dutch Mannlicher as my next purchase
>>34577177
>>34577219
>>34575087
So, am I the only retard who cant shoot the k31 for shit? My best group with it has been 3MOA, from the bench. The rifle feels awkward and the LOP too short. Further, im pretty sure sling tension moves the POI.
What am I doing wrong fellow anons? I love the beautiful rifle but im finding it hard to justify owning it when i cant shoot it well enough to hunt well with it.
>>34585391
Put a Pacyhmeyer recoil pad on it if you want to extend LoP. I don't know what to say lad, I think it's just you. My K31 was dead-on at 100m and I getting ~1in groups from a benchrest.
>>34585379
There is 1 or 2 of them if you search m95 into gunbroker
>>34585391
Don't worry, I find the K31 to be awkward as fuck to shoot as well. I think it only feels even reasonably comfortable and natural is in a totally prone position
>>34585434
96/11 A BEST
>>34585434
I only see Austrian mannlichers >>34585452
>>34585452
I completely disagree. It's way more comfortable for me standing than benched.
>Always been an American milsurp guy, never interested in much else
>Suddenly want a K31 from seeing all of these pictures
STOP.
>>34585414
Are you using GP11? I couldnt find any so i bought PPU. Dont know if its MOA capable.
Maybe ill try prone like>>34585452
Says
>>34585335
I dunno its a tough call. All I do know is that I need one. In 6.5.
>>34585538
No.
Anyone want to sell a MAS 36? I missed one at my local gun shop that sold for $549.
>>34585563
I'm looking at one in 8mm for 375, really nice shape, but a bit of a maxmaster.
>>34585481
I like it better than my K31, to be honest. Has a better condition bore; my K31 has some light pitting in the last few inches of rifling some fucking how...
>>34585487
Have you tried prone though?
>>34585608
>tfw missed one in Cabela's for 200 four years ago.
I didn't know future me would want one, now I still hate myself for passing it up so willingly.
>>34585040
>Where did you get the 03a3 and how much? It's beautiful
Got the rifle sporterized for $270 at auction.
>pic related
Got handguard, stock, lower barrel band and bayonet lug for $90 at another auction. Got replacement rear sight in a box of miscellaneous rifle sights for $25 at yet another auction. $35-ish bucks for the remaining bits from SARCO.
>>34585722
My K31 has a near perfect bore, but I still prefer my 86/11. It is just a more comfortable gun to shoot. The extra weight helps.
>>34585722
>Have you tried prone though?
I am physically incapable of shooting prone for reasons. I can shoot benched or standing, but I haven't shot prone since I was a teen.
>>34585759
My K31 had a perfect barrel when I got it for my 15th birthday, but it somehow got pitting over time, even though I only ever shot GP11, Privi, and some Wolf Gold back when they made that.
>>34585789
I've only shot GP11 so far.
>>34585800
Hmm, maybe it was the Wolf somehow. I don't know how pitting like what I have happens when you haven't let your guns get humid (cos then my other rifles would have gotten pitted as well), or shot corrosive from it.
Should I have the barrel lapped? Looking down the bore makes me want to cry.
>>34585538
Nah
>>34585850
Pitting will occur regardless of the time of ammo you shoot
>>34585868
type*
>>34585873
How do you think it happened?
>>34585538
Don't fight it anon, just let it happen. Happened to me, happens to all of us.
>>34585886
Bad storing conditions I guess. Even if you're shooting NC ammo you should still give the bore a quick cleaning and a light coat of oil after every time you shoot.
>>34585784
Such is life when youre too hung my melanin enriched gentleman.
>>34585784
obesity is not good for your health anon
>>34585886
Not cleaning the bore properly, storing it in humid conditions
>>34586109
it's not obesity. neck and spine are fused solid. I fused in a normal looking standing position, so I can mostly pass myself off as normal, but if I were to go prone I'd just be looking at the dirt.
>>34586234
>>34586060
You think if I have the barrel lapped would help?
I see Sweaty Ben has some M57s back in stock. Gonna have to snag one up and not drag my feet like I did last time.
>>34582405
where would you get a receiver though?
>>34586631
The receiver store
>>34586686
Why do some people say milsurp isn't ideal for a first gun? What will a 22lr teach me that a milsurp rifle won't?
>>34587221
because there's almost nothing more obnoxious than """gun culture"""". just buy what you want.
btw make sure u only point ur gat at things u intend on destroying!!!! unless it's a brown person of course
>>34587221
Well which would be a better first car to learn to drive, a Ford Focus or a McLaren F1?
>>34584914
Any suggestions for getting the rest of the rust off? I've gotten the surface rust off with 0000 steel wool but this is as far as it will go, can't manage any more progress
>>34587304
A McLaden would be better
Pick up any kind of bitch with that
>>34587304
What do you mean? A McLaren would be something like an AI AW. A more adequate comparison would be a Jeep and a Toyota
>>34577321
It's okay. Mami a shit. Homo is superior and has real guns, not ribbon clones, and Mami treats weapons like shit.
>>34575087
Anyone know how many M91/30s Tula made in 1932?
>>34587221
>>34587327
Let me put it differently:
Learning the fundamentals and becoming skilled at all with shooting, by starting off with milsurp, is like learning to throw a basketball by starting at the three point line.
You'd be playing on hard mode, not to mention using expensive ammo AND using a rifle that may not group well anyway. A decent .22LR will group well, and will be an awesome confidence builder.
DO NOT start with milsurp as your first rifle to learn to shoot with, unless you never plan to shoot all that well.
>>34587364
Milsurp rifles usually heavy poor ergos, bad triggers, shitty sights, and a good amount of recoil. That's not something a new shooter should be struggling against when learning basic marksmanship. Start with a good 22 and go from there.
>>34587405
>throw basketball
Do you even sports bro?
>>34587441
What do you say are some things I'd need to become proficient at before moving on to milsurps?
>>34587441
How good are the trainer versions of 'surp rifles? I've never had a chance to shoot one. Only seen a beat up 1922 M2.
>>34587498
They're all in .22 long rifle and get you used to all of the other bits of the rifle.
>>34587478
Sight alignment, trigger control, not developing a flinch...etc.
>>34587515
Are they reasonably accurate? Would it be worth it for him to hunt one down or just get a 10/22?
>>34587478
ABCs. Sight ALIGNMENT, BREATHING, and trigger CONTROL. Also your 4 shooting positions, prone, sitting, kneeling, and standing. Those are your fundamentals.
>>34587498
I don't have any first hand experience, but from what I've seen is they're pretty good.
>>34587454
My analogy still works.
Just bought my 7th gun this month.
Help me guys.
Help me.
I saw an Argentine Mauser for 260.
The barrel and receiver were parkerized, I think, and the stock had been cut down.
The crest was also missing.
Could I have done something about it?
>>34587595
>My analogy still works
Not arguing that it's not. Just pointing out you shoot a basketball, not throw one.
>all these fags dick riding the K31
Buy that gp11 while you can cuz when it's gone you're gunna be crying.
>>34588090
>tfw I reload for about 30 cents per round.
>>34587862
7th gun of the month or 7th gun ever?
>>34588090
Jokes on you, I only shoot handloads.
Now, which is cheaper 7.5x55mm or 8x56mm?
>>34588147
7th gun ever, all purchased within this month. >>34588147
>>34588155
7.5. It can be reloaded cheaper, too, with more bullet options since it's a .308 bullet.
>>34588159
As long as you aren't neglecting your bills and you store them responsibly, you're okay.
>>34588356
Bordering on neglecting bills, just barely.
>>34587572
The 10/22 is more inexpensive. The trainers are usually collector's items if they've gotten out of service.
>>34588140
>>34588147
Highly doubt those who reload are the ones suddenly all hot and bothered over K31s.
Armslist strikes again
>>34587441
What would you consider "good sights"? I quite like the notch and post
>>34583115
Tula isn't corrosive is it? At least the box says it isn't
>>34588562
The box I have said it was not corrosive, but then again it also said it was "hunting ammunition", which it clearly is not. Also the cases are rough non-lubed or waxed steel, which just stick in all of the receivers I've tried it in.
>>34586295
that's really fucked up and I honestly feel for you, but the mental image is making me laugh like an idiot
>>34588610
Don't feel too bad. >>34586091 was correct
>>34588601
The only "Hunting ammo" boxes that I've seen are the Winchester 54r soft-points.
>>34588625
well, not about the melanin...
>>34588544
Aperture sights. Of course those can be found on milsurps too, but they are less common. And the other criticisms still apply.
>>34588627
This is the stuff I've been having issues with. The Tula is hidden away on the back of the box.
Picked it up on discount at a LGS. Would not recommend.
>>34588694
Aperture sights are shit. Can't see a damn thing with them.
>>34588757
Objectively (pun intended) wrong senpai.
>>34588769
Can't be wrong when they're shit and I can't see through them. You can't tell me that I can see through something that I can't see through and be correct.
>>34588792
Do you save problems with astigmatism?
>>34588702
The only box of 54r that I've ever seen that claimed to be a "Hunting round" was Winchester made, as I said.
https://www.ammunitiondepot.com/1118-winchester-7-62x54r-180-grain-sp.html
(What I saw was ~200 grain I thought, but whatever.)
>>34588757
That sounds like a personal problem chief.
>>34588830
>https://www.ammunitiondepot.com/1118-winchester-7-62x54r-180-grain-sp.html
At that price point, I'd probably just buy PPU soft points. Realistically, that's what I intended to do anyway, since I also need to pick up some 8mm PPU.
These local grabs were just a holdover.
>>34588814
No, but I am near-sighted. I can see just fine with my Mosin and other open-sights, but I can't see shit for dick through any aperture sight that I've ever looked through. Not an M-14, not an M-16/AR-15, not an M1 Garand, not any other number of aperture sighted rifles and carbines that I've ever looked through. If I look through the sight, I can't see the target. If I look at the target, I can't see the sight well enough to line them up. (No, I don't close one eye while aiming.)
>>34588886
I found 990 Yugoslav milserp for ~300$ a few days ago. It said that there were five crates left. I decided to save a bit before buying: All of it was gone the next day.
>>34588923
I have 180 rounds of mild steel core hungarian surplus, that actually came with one of my guns (not my hungarian gun though). I wrapped it all in cellophane and am just waiting to sell it off honestly. The bores on my 54r guns have seen enough corrosive stuff, no need to punish them further.
>>34575087
Anybody want to buy 60 8mm Lebel bullets? 200 gr FMJ BT with a cannelure pulled from PPU ammo
>>34587318
Leave it slathered with grease for a week and see what comes off.
>>34587318
Wire brush wheel mounted on a grinder
For fucks sake why do people try to snipe on GunBroker if the timer resets to 15 mins every time. Just wasting time because I'll outbid them within seconds of them outbidding me.
>>34585550
I only use GP11 because it's actually cheaper for me in bulk. PPU shouldn't be giving you 3 MOA regardless. It could be your fundamentals that are off?
Bubba is breaking my balls, bros.
>>34590213
what did he get his greasy hands on this time
Excellent condition with near-mint bore. No import marks either. This ain't too bad, is it boys?
>>34590274
I think you forgot to add an image
>>34590274
Retard ol' me forgot the pic
>>34590288
bit steep. unless they nz is something special I dont know about
>>34590213
Lmao did you call Mae a manatee in the new video
>>34590314
Damn, I only bid past 600 because an anon here said a near flawless No.4 said they were worth more than 650. Welp, I don't feel terrible about it since I wanted a good one anyway. That scratches Lee Enfield off my to-buy list.
>>34589721
I'll give it a shot, rust seems really deep down in there so hopefully it will penetrate pretty deep
Receiver and barrel still have rust hard stuck on them, outside and inside, still don't really know how to deal with those. Probably keep scrubbing with wool for a few days
>>34590213
My feet smell like cum and sea turtles what do I do?
>>34575087
Just got this recently.
Daily reminder that the greatest leader of the 20th Century carried a Carcano not a K31, Mauser, Enfield, Lebel, Springfield, Mannlicher or Berthier. Therefore the Carcano is the best bolt action Milsurp.
>>34590288
That's a really fuckin nice No.4
>>34590851
Lee Harvey Oswald?!?
>>34591205
>Go into lgs that deals in mostly surp.
>Looking at Carcano carbine he had trying to make a deal with him
>Bore looks good but it's been drilled and tapped for a scope
>Mention it off hand
>He says it's just like the one that killed Kennedy
>$395 price tag
>>34591328
>mfw when I have one of the unscoped carcanos sold by klien sporting goods.
I get triggered when ever I look at carcano's and people mention jfk.
>>34584268
Are you looking to sell a Yugo K98k?
>>34587388
Tula? No. The USSR made 283,451 though.
Did they change the process for getting a c&r license? The guide I have is apparently out of date
>>34591985
Thanks. I was wondering because mine is ~#21,500 from Tula for the year.
