How would an Anglo-Saxon seax fare as a knife for survival and hunting? What materials would be best? Would pattern welded blades be good?

Fuck a lamp. Make sure it's on.

Considering the extent to which it was used in times past and the reputation it developed I imagine it would fare just fine as a innawoods knife in the hands of someone who could use it well and knew what it was capable of and not capable of.

It would be about the same as using a similarly sized bowie

Thanks. I suppose my next question is concerning materials. I'll probably get this custom made, so what would be best if I want something durable and easily maintained, but also to maintain a traditional appearance?

I'll readily admit I know very little about steel used in knives but if I were in your shoes I'd look into what other bush knives with a good reputation are made of? Good luck OP
