Should I get an AK chambered in 5.45 or 7.62? What are the differences, what's cheaper, etc.

Get an arsenal
Get it in 7.62x39
Buy shit ammo
Enjoy having a perfect shtf rifle
>>34566549
That rifle is A E S T H E T I C.
7.62x39mm is the preferred choice if you only own one AK. However, you can never own just one, so budget for an AK74 too.

Why would 7.62 be better for an SHTF than 5.45? Is 7.62 more available?
>>34567014
yes
>>34566956
Why is 7.62 preferred?
>>34567014
Obviously. 5.45 is for AK enthusiasts who appreciate the superior ballistics and can afford to buy crates of it.
>>34566549
Any specific Arsenal AK recommendations?

>vaporwave plays on

Cheaper and more available.
>>34567042
So 5.45 is a better round, but 7.62 is cheaper is what you're saying.

Pick and SLR 107 you like. They're also coming out with $800 74's soon.
Let's not go to AK general and ask questions.
>>34567062
Bretty much. Also quality 545 mags are more pricey.
>>34566532
7.62 first. just about the only real difference is that there are many more loads available in 7.62 than 5.45.
>>34567062
5.45 isn't a better round then 7.62, especially with the inconsistent, underloaded Russian commercial 5.45 ammo.
7n6 is banned forever and not much better then ball ammo, 8M3 blows it and 5.56 out of the water.
>>34567062
Precisely. I have 10,000rd of 7.62 just sitting in my basement right now.
>>34567076
No their not, Arsenal just discontinued their 5.45 SLR's due to poor demand and sales.
>>34566532
Get the 5.45 , .308 aks dont have many choices for clips.
>>34567062
5.45 and 7.62x39 are both about 23 cents per round.

5.45 performs similarly to 5.56, which is more common (assuming you're in the States) and now cheaper. The only reason people would get 5.45's is because it was like 10 cents a round. Now it's just a snowflake caliber for AK enthusiasts. It does nothing better than 5.56 unfortunately, and with 5.56 you can get all types of specialty rounds that will have the supposed "armor penetrating" capabilities surplus 5.45 had.
Still 7.62x39 outperforms the shit out if both those rounds in terms of price and penetration. At 3-400m the 7.62 starts to "arc" which is the range that 5.56 is pretty much ineffective. It may shoot a flatter trajectory but it's basically a .22lr out past where a 7.62 would start to arc (which you can just quick adjust your sights for assuming you have an AK/SKS/VZ).

>Arsenal just discontinued their 5.45 SLR's due to poor demand and sales
The 107 and 104 SLR models have never really sold poorly, they just didn't fly off the shelves unless there was a panic. The 106 series, however, was actually discontinued due to poor sales.
Production of the 104fr was halted, presumably so Arsenal of Bulgaria can switch over those lines to churn out 7.62x39 rifles for delivery to conflict zones.

This video was made before the announcement, but given how they seem to squirt out a few fixed stock 107s every now and then, I could see them bringing back the fixed stock 5.45 again.
