>The amendment would compel the Army to release M1911A1 pistols to the CMP. Transferring these vintage pistols to the CMP would allow them to inspect, grade, prepare for sale and sell these pistols. The CMP would reimburse the Army for costs associated with the transferring of the pistols. CMP South, headquartered in Anniston, Alabama, oversees sales. Similar language has been in the last two NDAAs, but the previous Obama Administration would not allow the Army to deliver the pistols to the CMP for political reasons.
>>
haha you think these will be cheap. guarantee they will cost more than ria probably in the 800+range.
>>
>>34565814
>clapped out 1911s
>more expensive than brand new lifetime warranty RIAs

The light has forsaken us.

Guess I'll just get my dad a Colt Competition instead.
>>
What is the most affordable GI style 1911 that isn't a pile? My brother wants one because of movies and vidya, but he's not much of a shooter.
>>
>>34566664

Its gonna be a pile or a pile of shit no inbetween

The 1911 is an Elite class of handgun that has a performance apex like no other. If you start cutting corners and trying to make it "cheap" you end up with a piece of garbage. I wouldn't spend less than $800 on a 1911 at entry level prices and even thats scraping it.

If you buy a 1911 with a loose slide, poor frame fitting and shoddy workmanship I mean yeah you "have a 1911" but those slide gaps come out to big gaps in performance too. Its like showing up to a car show and bringing some riced out piece of shit 1992 Camry with a fart blower. You can talk about how 'oh yeah i get off the line just as fast as your car bro, its the same thing' but deep down inside you know it isn't.
>>
>>34566722
I don't give a tin shit about 1911 elitism, I just want to find a range toy for my brother that'll eat any ammo and not rattle apart.
>>
>>34566664
Rock Island Armory/Armscor or or Ruger

Yes, they're not gonna be primo, but I have a RIA with 2k+ shots through it and it's a pretty solid gun
>>
>>34566748
Ain't a goddamn thing wrong with the SR1911s
>>
>>34566722
the 1911 isn't elite you fucking tard, stop drinking Wilson Combat's kool aid. It's a combat handgun, not some retarded race gun or mythical gun of yore.
It's meant to be relatively cheap to produce, have acceptable accuracy, and rattle quite a bit so it's actually reliable. All those "high end" 1911's you tout that are tighter than a nun's asshole might be accurate, but they sure as shit aren't as reliable as a rattley GI 1911.
>>
>>34566781
Oh I'm not saying they're bad guns, I'm just saying they aren't going to be as polished as a more expensive one.

My buddy had one, fun to shoot, my LGS didn't have one when I went looking for it, so they rrecommended the RIA as an alternative, turns out it was a good choice as well.
>>
>>34565814
no way..$450 talking about 100,000 pistols in a somewhat low demand market.
>>
>>34566781
and a SR1911 is series 70 goodness, not a product liability department's brainfart.
>>
>>34566813
The fit and finish on mine is near perfect; the dulled stainless finish they use is beautiful. Sure it isn't some sort of Wilson Combat or other more expensive / semi custom deal, but it's a fine gun and a great value.
>>
>>34566748
>>34566813
Thanks mang. I know a guy trying to sell a Llama for $400, which I am very uninterested in. RIA was on my radar, probably going to get him one for his birthday.

Good choice

Can't find one? Go for the SR1911 like>>34566898 said
>>
>>34566722
The 1911 was designed as a military service handgun over 100 years ago, it's not elite, it's obsolete
>>
>>34565814
this
these will be mostly for collectors not shooters
they'll be much cheaper than current market prices for military 1911s but more than new production budget brands
>>
>>34566664
I bought a 1994 Springfield Armory 1911 last year and it's pretty damn good. Solidly built and no issues at all so far. Pretty accurate too, at least in my experience. I can hit an 8 inch target at 100 yards with it.

I've been to Anniston many times, have talked with most of the guys that work at the CMP store. This will end up being an absolute shit show.

>CMP is desperate for new shit because their stocks are getting low
>They already enjoy whoring shit out for the maximum amounts
>They will finger fuck each and every single one of these guns.

On the negative side: had a chance to talk to an LE Armorer who works for a department that recently had to send their 1911's back for transfer to the CMP. All of those guns have been parkerized and bastardized with Wilson/other custom parts. They're basically worthless as collectibles.

So what we'll get:

>any type of prime gun will be auctioned off for major shekels
>salvageable guns will be "CMP reconditioned" and sold at a premium
>There will be some cheaper field grades.
>Anything in really poor condition will be parted out and parts will be sold individually.

I'd say at that minimum you're going to see them offering pistols at $600-800 with the average price coming in around $1200-1500. They literally have fuck all to sell these days so it's not like they need to move the stock ASAP. They can let it trickle out for the next several years.
>>
>>34568772
What shit do they sell there that IS cheap? I live in the state and have yet to go, but I'd like to.
>>
>>34568822

Nothing anymore. If you had went about 10 years ago you could have found all types of cheap shit. Lots of surplus parts. Ammo was still pretty cheap back then. I have been a member since I turned 18 in high school many years ago - one of my teachers (a Gulf War/Afghan ex-special forces guy) got me into a club and helped me with the process since he knew I liked guns.

Last time I went, they didn't have shit. Maybe 20-25 barreled actions across a couple of different guns? Some air rifles, a little bit of greek surplus, some promo stuff like shirts and hats. It's pretty depressing.
>>
>>34566955
JM Browning's designs may be old, but remain far from obsolete. The M2 is still in service, the Hi-power is still one of the most issued military handguns of all time, and his tilting barrel design still lives on in the vast majority of pistols.
>>
>>34565747
We do have cheap 1911s. I got an ATI GI version for 300 used at an lgs. I like it and it shoots fine. I dont know why CMP would be a cheaper alternative since immediately its gonna have the historic price tag

$450 youre dreaming. The CEO Mark Johnson has already said that rack grades will be running around $1000. Which is still fair considering market value for a non-reparked/ chrome plated abomination USGI 1911 with legible rollmarks and a good barrel is aroun $1200-$1500.

It was a mass issue service sidearm and designed as such. Quit kidding yourself.
>>
Are auto ordinance 1911a1s any good?
>>
This is cool. I don't have a 1911 yet. I definitely want one though. Every time I've rented them at a range I fucking love shooting them. They are just so much fun to shoot and just cool to look at too.

If these are sold at modern milsurp prices (aka price gougey as fuck) I'll probably look elsewhere.

I'm between a RIA, Springfield Range Officer and an Auto Ordinance. I don't want something gucci, in fact I'd rather have something that's loose and reliable, but mostly just fun to shoot.

I got a Llama as my first handgun. It's a fine gun, but the only problem is that you have to buy the grip and external extractor that fit the proprietary design.

Fucking why?
>>
>>34570764
because its "historical" and "antique" same reason real colt singleaction armys go for so much more compared to repros or replicas
