I am in the market for a spotting scope. I grab a $50 off amazon and it works for the purpose of seeing out but I wear glasses and have to flip them up and out of the way to get it close enough to my eye to see. Kind of an annoying pain. Can anyone recommend a good spotting scope that can use an iphone 6 plus to make the image larger without needed to put my actual eye to lens?

I may expose an uncomfortable amount of ankle by asking this, but is there any difference between buffer tubes? I can get paying more for higher quality springs and full kits, but not just the tube itself. Is it just paying more for some company's rollmark, or is there an advantage in buying an expensive one?
>>
>>34560692
some of them have additional features like extra drainage holes, cuts to make them lighter, more adjustment spots for stock settings and shit like that. If none of that appeals to you then just get a cheap standard one.
>>
>>34560682
>he doesn't want huds
Oh you can eat a dick, throw the old out and embrace the future. Put on a helmet and have a small light weight electronic scope transmit the target at your selected range with perfectly calibrated eye relief into both eyes. That would be amazing.

>>
>>34560692

Yes.

The cheap chinese ones you'll see on eBay and Amazon are often out of spec.

I've had 2 that wouldn't fit a stock on them without hammering it on (and even then it wouldn't adjust)

I had one where the BCG wouldn't retract far enough into it to lock the bolt open.

Just make sure you buy the buffer tube from a reputable company, not some fly-by-night Chinese knockoff.
>>
>>34560722

It is the 3x, i like everything ive gotten from PA, ive got their light, the 3x and the MD-ADS at some point ill get the 1-6x. My opinion of the 3x is that for what it is it's an awesome optic. It is very hardy in its construction aka it weighs a good bit. The glass is clear and the batteries are cheap. Ive had no failuers and no breaches if you get it definetly get the ADM mount. You can always seperate it and use it for an ACOG later if you get that involved. I got the kill flash as well which address a couple of grips in my opinion. Those being: the scope looks abrupt without the kill flash and the metal around the objective seems thin. This being because it is threaded for the KF. The reticle while extremely handy is a bit busy for my tastes. That being said my final verdict is its a good little scope i like the reticle better that Vortex and that it seems more aware of the aftermarket than Vortex. If i did it all over again would I get it? Yes, but it would be after I got the PA 1-6x. The 1-6 will do what this does and more plus I like the reticle in the 1-6x more than the PA3X or the Strike Eagle.

Do high pressure rounds like the new M855A1 damage gas piston driven ARs? If so, which ones can handle the increased pressure?

Centurion cutout. Also the contrasting rail cover and rail color thing looks ugly IMO.

>>34563112
Straight fucking meme my dude. Anon is right, any 5.56 less than 10.5" is going to have some serious limitations. The rail is nice though I guess.

>>34563226
It isn't a linear relationship so you can't even make a qualitative or quantitative claim about a given barrel length difference without first talking about which to barrel lengths you're considering. Anon shouldn't have bought an 8.5" 5.56 pistol AR, or at least he shouldn't have bought it and expected to be taken seriously because surprise surprise, little 5.56 pistols like that are toys, not tools.

What if im sick of cleaning my gun after every single trip to the range and would rather just wipe a piston rod off rather than take apart a bolt carrier group every time?

Id pay $500 more for a rifle that takes 1/4th the time to clean and doesnt even need it after every shoot. Also doesnt need to run wet either.

It facilitates practice by making it easier to fit range time into schedules
>>
>>34563325

Its literally a linear differential of 2". This allows for completely 'qualitative or quantitative claims'

Then you're a fucking retard. You can go thousands of rounds without cleaning an AR and even on piston ARs you have to lube and clean the BCG.

Alright, in an attempt to salvage this and make it a decent range toy I'm doing spikes tactical barking spider 2 mb, magpul hand stop, mbus set, moe grip, and holosun 403a red dot. Anything else I should consider? I've only configured one AR before but I just threw a carry handle on it and called it a day so I'm not sure if there's other cool off the wall shit worth doing like bayonets or underbarrel glock mounts

>>34563372
If you dont clean a GI AR and lube it, you can start having jams after just a few hundred rounds

A piston one pretty much requires nothing for thousands until you want to clean off the piston system and then wipe off the bolt carrier group

Piston heats up the front and ejects all the shit in fromt of you though, so you do kind of need metal front signts

It isn't a linear relationship between barrel length difference and muzzle velocity difference. Muzzle velocity loss from 20" to 18" is not the same magnitude as muzzle velocity increase from 10.5" to 12.5". That is why whenever someone says "lol only 2" you're know they don't know what they're talking about". Go read this:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_16/714088_Suppressed-5-56-SBR-Velocity-Tests--41-Factory-Loads-from-10-5--11-5--12-5-and-14-5-ALL-DONE-.html
Then watch some gel videos, then come back to the discussion.

>Do you know where you're at
Suit yourself. You'll rationalize it either way. Just trying to help you out, but don't complain when dudes at the range or the LGS treat you like a child.
>>
>>34563425
From 10.5 to 8.5" you loose ~200 to 250fps depending on load.
>>
>>34563424
well if you're dumb enough to spend $400 to justify an already expensive mistake, go further and buy a KAK shockwave and buy a 10.5 upper and sell the 8.5 (or just chop it down to 2 inches)
>>
>>34563365
It doesn't work that way man. You lose 100 fps when going from 20" to 18", you lose 200 fps when going from 10.5" to 8.5"(when using m855).

>>34563398
>If you dont clean a GI AR and lube it, you can start having jams after just a few hundred rounds
That is 100% bullshit. The only reason mil rifles occasionally jam is because of shit mags and worn out springs, if you were to replace the buffer and extractor spring on them they would easily go 2,000 rds without malfunction. Do some fucking research man, DI "unreliability" is a pure fucking myth that gets peddled by HK funded shills.

I would consider flipping it immediately locally for maybe a $50 loss at most as it is brand new. Don't sink money into straight toys unless you have your tools sorted out first, and if you do, make sure they're at least cool toys, not 8.5" 5.56 ARs.

>>34563473
More serious gun owners often don't respect less serious gun owners as much as they would another more serious gun owner. There are tons of threads on /k/ full of casuals whining about rude/standoffish gun store employees. I'm not saying it is right, but it certainly is descriptively accurate. I mean hell just the other day I ran into an old friend at the gun show. We chatted a bit, and made tentative planes to go shooting. Later I texted him and asked to clarify what sort of AR he owned, what sort of gear, and what sort of shooting he is into. He's a good acquaintance, and I respect him immensely academically, but if he's got some normie AR, shit gear, and an unwillingness to move towards more serious stuff then I'm not going to be shooting with him more than once or twice.

Gun store owners are universally fucking retarded both in terms of running a business and in the products they sell and employees they manage. I have barely met exceptions to the rule and very rarely go into purchase anything anymore. Theyre mostly just an online transfer place for me.

With gander mountain going out of business, i have the opportunity to get an entry level ar for under 4 hundo. Assuming barebones stock model (s&w m&p or similar), how much would i need to invest to make the gun acceptable? I'm assuming new trigger, maybe bcg, possibly a barrel upgrade. Foregrip and optic. I'm not looking to run competitions but i would like to be able to shoot at distances up to 200yds.
>>
>>34564265
BCG and barrel on the M&P is fine. Just upgrade the trigger, grip, stock, and get a free float hand guard. Make sure you get the model that has a forward assist and dust cover.
