My dad bought the short barreled version back when I was in high school and I shot it weighing in at like 100 pounds. It knocked me around pretty good, but your rifle should be pretty damn accurate. The factory irons are quite nice.

Step one, make sure all the screws are torqued, esoecially the sights

Step 2, buy a box of 150gr federal american eagle fmj, a box of xm80, and a box of remington core lokt 150gr

Step 3, go to range, get 3 targets that have the 5 bullseyes, and shoot 3 round groups into each center bullseye and then measure the group sizes. Whichever one groups smallest is now your cheap training ammo.

Step 4, take targets out to 50 and 100 yards and shoot the rest of ammo for fun.

So once youve done all this, get 3 boxes of 168gr match ammo, 1 blackhills, 1 hornday, 1 federal gold medal match. And then repeat test to find which one does better. Because that will be your precision ammo to use out to 600 yards.

It goes like this
150gr <300
168gr <600
175gr <1000

Fyi anything above 168gr will wear out the barrel, so dont be making 175gr your primary ammo, just use it for when you actually take long range shots past 600yds
