No /BRG/? Let's fix that.

What is the difference between the DSA Voyager and SA58?

Why is the SCAR 17 so damn expensive?

new SA58 rifles are cast, and the voyager has surplus parts but more of a mishmash than the SA58. rear irons are one example.

the only difference now is that SA58 rifles are duracoated

you can even get voyagers with carry handle cuts

I'm still in the market so I haven't been hands on but they seem to get a lot of flak for simply being a century product. I saw a review that had a slam fire but his firing pin was broken so that does happen sometimes and they don't have the HK diopter sights. I read that they're actually contracted to PTR for production from surplus CETME part but I don't know which are surplus and which are PTR.

Alrighty, faggots.
I have an Imbel parts kit. I built it, busting the gas tube and bending the receiver in the process. I unfurled the receiver (it's smooth as butter with no kinks or anything whatsoever) and bought a Belgian gas tube.
I now have it functional (sort of)
The thing is, it only works about half the time, and ONLY with steel cased ammo.
The brass seems to bind/expand too much.
I have the gas in between 1 and 2 on the regulator (yeah, the setting with zero holes for gas to vent through except the ports down the tube)
It still functions like shit.
Do I need to check the headspace?
It seems to have problems getting back over the hammer honestly, but the hammer is the original one (I used other parts for my 922R, as I have some CNC equipment)

Tl;dr: anyone else have their hammer cause problems with the action cycling, or do I need to potentially get a looser headspace?
I'm gonna re-oil it, and see if that helps (I think I forgot to oil the gun before testing it)
>>
>>34549638
AR or scar
>>
>>34549641
Just FYI, I used the old tape on the headspacing surface of the bullet trick to headspace it, so that's plan B if you guys haven't had problems with the hammer holding things forward.

Considering that the other options are $1000 for a shitty cast FAL, $430 complete mess C308's, and so boring you'll die from looking at them budget ar10's, yes the ptr is a solid choice.

>Are spare part easy to find
Yeah, but the way with G3 shit is that it is either super super cheap since it's all surplus, or absolutely insane since lol HK parts

>>
>>34553707
I can't really say, I don't own any battle rifles so haven't done too much looking into optics.

A 1-6x from someone that makes decent stuff should be fine, I would check to see if it's rated for .308, especially since roller delayed blowback is a pretty violent action. I imagine most are rated for .308, but I've never looked into it.

The biggest plus about the SA58 is you can fully customize it at the point of order. Can't do that with the Voyager.

Mine is a regular ass 21" with nickel teflon treated internals and pins and their really nice match trigger.

Is it FTEs? If so I would look into the gas system to start with. Check how far back gas is going down the piston for blowby or whatever it is called.

Never put together a FAL myself so I'm not terribly knowledgeable on what issues headspacing could cause.
I wouldn't 100% rule it out but I doubt it is the hammer, the headspace is worth checking though for sure. Might want to invest in/borrow some real gauges.
Good luck.

I was thinking about one of those 2.5x ones for my AR, but I am one of *those* guys that will buy a $550 gun and then say an optic is too expensive and would rather just buy another gun.

If I end up getting a PTR I'll probably just run irons for the most part, not really sure at this point. The welded on rail fucks up the aesthetics for me, plus I am one of those autist's that wants to put retarded shit like carry handles on it. Not planning on buying one any time soon, but prices seem to be coming down so I might pick on up depending what happens on black friday. I am seeing rail less ones on slick guns for $730-$750 ish right now, an the best price I saw last year on black friday was $770 ish for a railed model, so hopefully this year it will come down a bit more.

I'm left handed so kinda fucked either way with controll.

It's a Century L1A1, but it headspaces correctly and shoots pretty well. Ignore the shitty sling and stock, I was like 16 when I got it and it still had the thumbhole abortion on it, I'm going to put a proper set of L1A1 furniture, a correct flash suppressor, and a S.U.I.T. on it, soon.

I haven't looked at a cast FAL, but the surface of cast shit is porous and you can tell in general the difference between a casting and forging on surface finish alone.

Okay, so I've been autistically looking at Howa 1500's and stuff to do a long range/hunting rifle thing. After seeing how much stocks and stuff would cost, I'd be dangerously near the price where my autism kicks in and starts punching my brain saying
>YOU COULD BUY A PTR FOR ONLY LIKE $50 MORE DO IT FAGGOT DO IT DO IT.

What type of accuracy would I be looking at with good ammo in a 91 GIR and how far out could one consistantly hit steel?

And how autistic would it be to hunt since my main justification for a scoped bolt gun is for hunting even though I have never hunted before.
>>

>>34559856

I can't see a reason you couldn't just get this instead unless you are in Cali, then if you where, why would you bother asking how to remove a bullet button.

Last black friday I remember seeing GIR's for $770
>>
>>34558638
you can't uncuck it
The bullet button no longer makes a rifle fixed magazine, so now you have to actually make it a fixed mag, or you have to turn the ptr pistol grip into a non-pistol grip by putting a fin on it.

1:10 really prefers the heavier stuff

1:12 is opotimized for M80 and 1:11 is more of a center of the road option for a do all twist, kind of like 1:8 for AR's.
>>
>>34565201

so why does it seem like most of the AR-10 barrels out there are 1:10? even the budget ones. you'd think something optimized for the cheaper ammo would be popular...

Because most AR10s get scoped and people bitch and moan when it doesnt get 1moa groups with Federal Gold Medal Match.

AR-10's (L(ong)R(ange)-308's) got revitalized by DPMS in the early 2000's and they started with 1:10

Question for the FAL goys.
My buddy got an imbel (I think) built FAL in a trade that looks like it's seen some harsh years. And it didn't want to cycle properly or hold the bolt open. I tried adjusting the gas knob, but it had the same issues even being set to both extremes. The bolt and carrier seem to move fine without any hitches. Does the gas tube need cleaning or something?

Pic of muh Poorfag Trainer Rifle for attention.

Next time you shoot, set it all the way to 1 then work up, tell him not to be a pussy. If it doesn't work on 1 then check the gas plug and compare it to ones with a grenade setting. If that isn't the problem then your gas block or barrel might be too small

There are some members on the M14 forum who regularly shoot CMP competition with cast Springfield armory M1A receivers on their fourth and fifth barrel.

Buy a kit build Imbel on an Imbel or old DSA, Coonan, or Century R1A1, should be able to get for as low as 800 if you're lucky, 1000-1100 likely, or 1300 at the high end if you're in a rush
>>
>>34567443
The HKs ship with bare steel barrels. Getting spares of those could be spendy, bcgs even harder. Other wear parts would be easy to get.

Though if your worried about it, LMT is the way to go. KAC even makes their lowers if that makes you feel better
>>
>>34567327

Authentic Forged G.I. M14 receivers would last between 350,000 and 400,000 rounds if fed the proper ammo. H.P. White Laboratory also estimated the receiver wear in that range.

The M14 was engineered to last unlike the tilting block forged fal that lasted around 80k (another H.P. White test)

SCAR is a great gun, but I want something with more range/accuracy and more durability/reliability.

Being in a rush and building on a Coonan are mutually exclusive, they bumped up the expected wait time on their website to up to 180 days. I ordered mine when it was only supposed to be 90 days, ended up being 120-140 before my FFL got it in.

SCARs will be moa, and just as long a range as an AR10. They will also be more reliable.

With aftermarket SCAR barrels not being chrome lined you can get better accuracy

PTR GI or GIR, I might mount an optic eventually, but the welded rail looks like cancer and claw mounts look nice
>>
>>34567963
There are other options than the claw mount too. I'd go with the regular GI.
>>
>>34567982
What would those be? I only ever saw surplus HK ones with the odd scope rail and new 1913 versions of the claw.

Will POF wide handguards come in any time soon or are they just no longer available?
>>
/brg/ decide what pistol I should get since I am too lazy to actually go out and shoot any or make a thread or as an actual serious internet site.

I was thinking a CZ P-01 but at $600ish right now it's a bit much, would rather stay near $500 ish (or I should just get a fucking job and stop being a whiny cunt)

Glock 19 was a bit blocky for me, liked the PPQ and VP9 grips, like the CZ compacts more though. Like hammers more, but needs to be a decocker only or a striker fired with no safety since I am disabled.

You also have to consider that the SCARs made for the military are made in the US. The civilian version is made in Belgium, shipped to the US in a fucked up single shot form, where it then has to be fixed.

Because we like guns that are actually fun to shoot instead of LARPing as operators.

Hey /k/

Just got my first .308 rifle. It's a super vepr. Was wondering what's the best sights for it. Was thinking about getting 4x scope. Really want to get a pso-1

Thoughts?
>>
>>34569122
Its true though. Reduce, reuse, recycle baby!
>>
>>34569142
How far are you going to be shooting it
What are you going to be shooting
And whats the budget?
>>
>>34556071
because luxury items cost more to get to you, and be made.
>>
>>34569142
Do Super Veprs even have side rails?
If you knew you wanted to scope it before you bought it, you probably should have gone with something easier to mount an optic on, such as literally anything else.

I think max I'll be shooting is 200 yards

Just tragets for now. I'm planning on visiting my cousin in Alabama next year and do some hog hunting.

Just looking to get 1 general purpose sight/scope. Figured 4x fits the bill. Not too much magnification. My budget is $500

Any recommendations?
>>
>>34547265
I got an M1a in walnut and it comes with a steel buttplate which is uncomfy as fuck

I wanted to find a real Springfield Armory rubber buttpad they put on their polymer versions but I'm having a hard time finding it. There are a few third party makes but from the reviews its actually a hard piece of rubber and not a soft one so I'm not keen on it.

Also what kind of rail should I get for my M1a? just any regular picatinny rail or something else?

Yes it has side rails. Im going to get a side mount sometime next month

Are side rails a pain in the ass to mount?
>>
>>34569345
Also with a rail I wanted to get a good optic for it. Something good for 100-200-300 yards maybe. I was thinking about an aimpoint but FUCK these are expensive as fuck 500 dollars for something like this. Is there anything in the 200 to 300 dollar range that will give me what I'm looking for?

Here's your obligatory (you).
>>
>>34569484
It'll cowitness with your irons with the right mount, and you really don't need magnification for 0-300 yards, unless you're shooting at living things and need to ID your target.

all you have to do is make sure the tension is good and slide the side mount on and lock it down

Its about as unobtrusive as your going to find. For hog hunting its about perfect, well depends where your hunting hogs.

Nigger, go feel a cast and a forged part and see if you don't notice the difference in surface finish.

I suppose I should clarify, casting can have very nice surface finish, I heard that the investment casting process has been used in S&W and Ruger revolvers for at least 20-30 years if I recall, but it is expensive to do that high quality of casting.

DSA is building the voyagers to a price point, so they are going to have rough surface finish due to their casting process. They aren't going to machine and finish it to perfection because it is firstly, expensive (which if you are casting, you are trying to make shit cheap so doing quality finishing is counterproductive) and second, they need to be able to justify their $1700 rifles with the superior forged parts and finishing.
>>
>>34570040

Now it's just an AR-10 with a weird upper.
>>
>>34570587

So long as it doesn't present engineering problems to the material, I actually kinda like that textured look.
>>
>>34570061

>>
For those of you with scar's and ar-10 variants, have any of you tried suppressing them? Generally speaking, how does 308 perform suppressed?
