Realistically though they need a basis for the charges to stick in court, and that is intent. Yes it is required. Engraving is the easiest part of the process though, find a shop that sells suppressors in your area and generally they will do engraving.

Laws can change, hell even the current legitimate way with tax stamps and such could change, however the tax stamp method has existed for a significant portion of time, and most feel is less likely to change. having used both and owned both I would suggest you buy a brace for now, and put in your paperwork for your full stamp so you are 100% "legitimate"

Well i found a couple Bera's at a different LGS today in .380, its not 9mm like i wanted, but they're decently priced under $300 new and seem pretty good based on the reviews. I'm very tempted to jump on it.
Or they have a used S&W Shield in .40 for around $360. Buying the shield guarantees i'd have to layaway it for an extra month or so. But at least it means i'd get that gun.

If you can conceal it, don't compromise on 9mm. A new SW Shield is only like $40 more expensive than that, and I'd take a 9mm Shield over the .40 for the extra round in the mag. FWIW, I love mine.

the one extra round isnt too big of a deal to me. And to be completely honestly, i've just never owned my own pistol before.
The Thunder is well within my price range, and since its in .380, i feel like its a good round for me.
The .40 shield i saw looked to be in great condition, nearly new, i just dont want to jump into a pistol with a more powerful round due to my lack of experience.
All that being said, the Bersa is cheaper and is within my budget. I'd be able to get it by my birthday next month. The main negatives with the shield is that I'd have to keep it on layaway for a few extra weeks, and I didnt want to go more powerful than 9mm due to my own lack of experience with handguns
Sadly that specific LGS didnt have a wide selection of 9mm and they've just changed owners and made some massive renovations so they're trying to show people they arent a shithole anymore. thus no good trade ins currently.

Don't worry too much about power though. .40 and .45 aren't going to spontaneously transmute your hands into nuclear fire because you're inexperienced. The first pistol I fired was a compact 1911 in .45 and I had no issue.

The only reason I recommend 9mm over anything else is because it's cheap as balls, and you want to practice as much as possible.

I suppose as it stands currently, the Thunder is my best choice. some people say it stove pipes. I suspect this is due to limp wristing.

According to this letter from the the BATF, it has been determined that the "Mauser 1896 pistol" is classified as a C&R firearm and that an 1896 Mauser Pistol with a reproduction holster/stock that closely approximates or duplicates the original holster/stock, is excluded from the provisions of the National Firearms Act."

So basically even with a reproduction stock, as long as it is a true reproduction of the original stock, it is okay to use and not have it be considered an SBR.
