Time to start inflicting my vacation photos on you all again. Or at least all who have yet to figure out the filtering functions I guess. How many of these threads we end up with depends on how well my attempts to recover photos from an SD card goes, hopefully nine or ten in the end, coughed up depending on when I can be arsed to process the pictures and post them.

First out is a bunch of pictures from the military aircraft museum Aeroseum just north of Gothenburg. In itself a pretty charming place, as it's housed in the old subterranean hangars of F9.

Saab AJSH 37 Viggen

I guess a quick note on the Viggen alphabet soup could be in order. The plane came in a few variants. Hopefully I'll remember the details right:

AJ37 - Ground attack primarily, could go fighter in a pinch
SF37 - photo recon, ditching the radar for cameras.
SH37 - naval recon, with radar.
SK37 - two seater trainer, no radar.
JA37 - fighter, could do ground attack if it had nothign better to do. New radar, engine and avionics.

Finally as JAS39 Gripen got somewhat delayed a number of AJ and SH (maybe some SF too?) were upgraded with new avionics and weapon integration to AJS/AJSH standards, giving them a decent capability at everything, though not quite up to par with a JA37 with a recon pod.

This helicopter took parting the Ymer expedition to the Arctics in 1980, where they sued to to chase down and sedate polar bears for measurements. I'm not sure about the crown here though, it isn't present in a photograph I have of it from back then. Possibly some mix up with the gloria painted over bear #28, as it jumped into the sea after being hit, and then drowned as the sedative took hold.

Rb27 (AIM-26B). Used on J35F and J, as the older variants didn't have the necessary radar illumination capacity.

Also, basically all of these missiles will have been license built in Sweden, often with some changes to them. Rb27 for example got a new and hopefully better proximity fuse.

A bit of a Swiss army knife ASM, capable of carrying a large charge, smaller bomblets, or even cameras for recon. When used for attack it would be remote controlled to about 15km from the target, where it would go by its own radar seeker.

70km range, 900km/h speed, 900kg robot + 315kg JATO rockets. In use 1966-1995.

Aircraft 32 Lansen came in a few variants as well. In the order they showed up:

A32A - Ground attack.
J32B - "Lansen Sport", all weather fighter with a new engine, avionics, and up-gunned from four 20mm to four 30mm (each spitting out 660rpm).
S32C - recon variant based on A32.
J32D - J32B with added target towing equipment.
J32E - J32B rebuilt into an electronic warfare variant. Mostly used to allow other pilots to train against such, and thus they were flown by the target tug squadron, but in case of war they would have been put to as much use as their limit numbers (15) allowed.

This isn't surprising, if I'm not mistaken it is a development of the french CT-20 flying target/ recon drone.

Didn't you guys use them on some ground mounts too? Alongside SS.12 and Hellfire?

Yep, it's a CT-20 derivative. Used both by the navy on some of their ships (apparently the west's first ASM in operational use when it showed up on the Halland class destroyers in 1966) and by the coastal artillery from launch ramps. As far as the museum sign goes the air force never used it.

A quick lookup of the SS.12 shows that it was adopted by the Swedish armed forces as Rb54, and Bofors has made turned the Hellfire into a land-launched ASM called Rb 17.

Götaverken 38, a license built Rearwin 9000 Sportster. A civilian aircraft requisitioned by the Swedish Air Force in 1943.

Appears to be in flying condition, the sign hanging off the propeller warns you not to touch it least the engine fire and the prop brutalises your fingers.

Supposedly not in use after the cluster bomb ban was ratified, though I've heard some bits about the air force mostly just mumbling "submunitions dispenser, not cluster bomb, there is a difference" and carefully putting them all in long-term storage.

Funnily enough, AJ37 couldn't carry the Bk or Rb74 before the AJS upgrade, and as far as I can tell never had the Rb 71 integrated, possibly lacking the radar for it or some such.

Thus the airforce going very, very silent about it, and here look at this big and impressive and attention grabbing Rb15, so utterly unsuited to use against anything but a proper military target so even if you guys, perish the though, would have us join NATO in bombing some genocidal maniac in the middle east we'd have no use for them and would probably have to borrow a bunch of SDBs for it all. And here's the Meteor, obviously of no interest against anything but combat aircraft.

>>34542678
Oh, those. I thought you meant military no go zones, ie places to mine in case of Russians.

As for the kind you're thinking of I used to work right next to one of them. Over the coarse of about six years jack fucking shit happened to me, my work place, and my colleagues at work. (Then we moved to a place of no note whatsoever, and the first fucking week we had cars vandalised out in the parking lot.) You also have an American journalist take a look at another one of them: https://www.thelocal.se/20170226/chicago-much-worse-than-malm-american-journalist

They're far form idyllic places, but the cops will certainly walk in if they feel like it, and plenty of people will exaggerate the ever living hell out of things for political reasons. The political right in the US has been holding up their idea of Sweden as a warning example since Eisenhover, Putin wants to use the refugee issue to break apart Europe into bite sized chunks, and our own shitshirts obviously have a vested interest in providing both of these with testimony as well.
>>
>>34542678
>Its cheap to live there, so thats why a lot of immigrants live there, they cant afford a place anywhere else.

And it isnt bad at all. Sure, the cops is here sometimes, and you see people selling drugs sometimes, but other than that it's like most other places. I have never felt unsafe, or at least not anywhere close to what the /pol/-mems suggest.

I mean its not in any way as bad as Chicago, as some people seem to think.

The cost of the Viggen program may have been one of the main reasons Sweden's nuclear program got cancelled.

Though having spoken to a number of people at the Royal Institute of Technology's nuclear safety division, making a functional warhead today would be pretty trivial. Give them a year at most. I wonder how far the Esrange space research centre rocketry guys could fling somethign like that.
