I know we just had an MRE thread, but let's start this one off right...

I want to get more MREs after eating a cheese tortellini one (was amazing, didn't expect it to taste that good). What are your favorite/generally agreed to be the best overall MREs? And how do I eat these things without having to drink half a gallon of water along with it? The crackers and corn nuts really got to me for some reason...

Oh, and what should be avoided like the ATF after you "accidentally" procured a shotgun with a 15.9 inch barrel?

had spaghetti with meat and textured soy protein for dinner, low sodium fema ones so they're pretty low impact on my system.

There's a chicken with feta cheese and tomato MRE that's super dank. I like most of them, except the omelette one is disgusting. The cinnamon bun side dish is good, blueberry cobler, Fiesta rice and beans... There's also these candies called chocolettos that are awesome. I don't think they even exist anymore outside of MRE's.

why do people like buying mre's? I mean some are alright, but why pay a fuck ton of money for overly salted 1800 calorie meals? why not can your own meaty meals and stock up on rice and lentils?
>>

They're fun. Sure, you could make your own. Yes, they're too expensive, but there's just something fun and neato about them. Didn't you ever eat Lunchables as a kid? Literally MRE's for children.

The idea is that it is so self contained, small, and sealed. I can go out into some rough backwoods innawoods, requiring me to ford a body of water, and my food will be just fine, easily heated if I can't get a fire going, and will contain some matches for guaranteed fire if any other firestarter is fucked. It has some TP, and if you are eating three a day, you have enough for a daily shit. Some coffee for a nice kick off to the day. It is just good all around for some insane backwoods shit. As far as a civilian goes, and outside of collecting, that is why people like them.

Not that you'll have to worry about shitting if you're eating three MREs a day.

That's what i thought at first, before i joined the military. It's been one year since I ETS'd and i still can't stand them.

Not shitting for 3 days will do that. The novelty wears off really quick

If any of you get MRE's regularly, where are you getting them? I've seen them at surplus stores, but never a whole menu collection where I had much of a choice of what to get

EBay for foreign ones. RCIR's are the shit, by the way. If there's one thing frogs are good at, it's food.
