Anti-rotational tabs are dumb. Any force strong enough to break 60 ft pounds on a barrel nut is strong enough to break the aluminum of an anti-rotational tab.

Is it best to build or buy your first AR?

I have a couple bolt action guns (a R700 .308 and a 'sporterized' 303 Enfield) as well as an old R870 I got from my grandfather but I was thinking of an AR just to be a range queen. Decent-ish 223 is cheaper to shoot than okay-ish 308 and a decent AR is reasonably priced, reliable, accurate and controllable if a friend wants to put some rounds through it.

GREAT single action trigger (it's identical to the PPQ trigger), okay double action trigger but long, some people don't like (or don't understand) the AS trigger. P99 is still the only DA/SA striker I've heard of. I love DA/SA so I have a permaboner for P99s.

The frame is rather slippery. The PPQ fixed some of that with pubetex but it's too slippery too imo. The P99 slide, while not exactly slick, is not as easy to get a hold of as other pistols like the FNS, VP9 or BLOCK. Those """"""""""features"""""""""" are good for carry but not good for MUH COMBAT. I have not had a problem holding, shooting and manipulating a P99. But I like advents like rough grip texture, chunky slide serrations and proper grip inserts like M&P uses.

First impressions are very good. It fits well in my hand and puts the weight back pretty far. Install was easy too. I tried the MK8 and MK4 before and didn't like how bumpy they were, the MK14 doesn't have that problem at all.
