I know some dudes who are doing the exact same thing but with AKs. It's kinda cool but they're asking way too much money for them to ever be successful. I didn't see a price on the AR folders.

Why would you want to fold one? It's already a perfectly good take-down, and doesn't need to be re-zeroed every time it's reassembled

This. Add in decent handguard-mounted irons or maybe an Aimpoint, and now you have a sub 2000 that can shoot 5.56 and potentially .308 if you want to make an AR-10 like this.

It's not going to be some sort of amazing operator/DMR gun, but it could well be God's own backpack gun.

I think ar's are already plenty 'fordable.

Brownells has these for sale and a couple of take down kits so you can break it down quick, and tool less. Don't know anything about quality though....
