Cambodian-Vietnam War
>Shortly after America's Vietnam War
>Note worthy for the NVA fucking up the Khmer Rogue who were brutal as fuck commies and fucking funded by US
Honestly this war is so important when talking about the Vietnam War, as it shows what the US Government's goal was and puts to rest the "fighting communist expansionism" lie they used to get hundreds of thousands of US soldiers thrown into the meat grinder to fuck with Russia's economy and get drug money.
Mexican-American War
>First war America ever fought where they're in a foreign and alien land

Sino-Vietnamese war AKA Third Indochinese War.
>NVA occupy Cambodia to combat the Khmer Rouge
>China, who are funding and supporters of Cambodia see this
>Invade North Vietnam almost immediately
>China gets absolutely blown the fuck out by the grizzled Vietnamese fighters, lose between 200k and 700k soldiers in a 3-week span
>Vietnam continues to occupy Cambodia until the 80's and only loses small portions of land and comparatively light losses compared to the Chinese
Fairly apt, ties-in with the OP.

I'd disagree on WW1, Russo-Japanese and Anglo-Zulu wars.
They're underrepresented in comparison to WWII and shit, but compared to the Boxer Rebellion and the Boer Wars that some folks haven't even heard of they're mainstream.

Malaya is one of those things that you read about and end up in awe of just how good of a campaign it was.
They really didn't fuck up, from start to finish. No single soldier put a foot wrong. I don't know how they did it, but they did and it was arguably the most impressive battle against Communists in the Cold War.

>comparatively light losses.
Where does this meme come from?
All estimations of the conflict indicate ut was a stalemate at best which for vietnam was an accomplishment.
But they still lost more gooks then chicoms killed, which is realllly bad when your enemy outnumbers you 10 to one.

Well, the chaco war was an interesting read.

>"fighting communist expansionism"
The US supported the Khmer Rouge because by the late 1970s policy had shifted towards building ties with China. China was of course the main benefactor of the Khmer Rouge.
It was was fighting Communist expansionism in a way, because it ensured that the Soviet Union and China would remain fractured.
Of course it was a crime against humanity and betrayal of longtime allies, not to mention western ideals, but it's not entirely accurate to say that Vietnam wasn't about fighting the expansion of Communism- by 1977 the strategy had changed.
That thing in Africa where they had trench fucking warfare in the 90's and russian mercenaries flew SU-27's and MIG 29's on both sides
