My dad bought me an air rifle when I was like 8, then a .22 when I was 12.

Ironically enough, he got me into guns, now I'm getting him back into guns. I just bought an AR, and he's buying a handgun when we get back from vacation. Dad's make good range buddies, too.
>>
Saw dad clean and load his old as shit Arminius Arms HW38 when I was about 5 or 6. I was mystified.

Grandad had a handful of side-by-side double barrel and pump action shotguns, a couple of pistols, and I distinctly remember him having an SKS, no bayonet, in a synthetic Monte Carlo stock with a low power scope. My dad and my uncle took it onto the back porch and each put a round through it at some old paint cans in a trash pile on the property.

I got more and more into guns as time went on. Got my first rifle (marlin mod 60) for my 16th birthday. Dad passed the old .38 on to me around the next year. At 19 I bought a shot to shit Bulgarian NDS-2 AK74 pattern rifle from a local gunshow. At this point we had a G27, a Remington 1100, a Stoeger Coach Gun, a Ruger 10/22, my AK and the .38. Bought a Glock 17 RTF2 from a coworker and did a pistol/carbine match with it and my AK. It snowballed from there. After moving out, my brother and I had 18 guns between us. I think I'm on Glock number eleven now and AR number 4 I think. Sadly, I broke one of my fathers rules about never selling guns and am down to just my Glock 19 gen 4, and my Danny D M4V1.

This is true. My dad was a Marine yet never got into guns other than buying a pistol for home defense. As soon as I got into guns he got into them too. Now his favorite thing to do is research them, go to the range, or look forward to one of our next purchases.

I don't know that feel.
My dad hates guns. Gets really nervous whenever I have any of mine out while he's around. He shot some of my grandfather's hunting rifles and shotguns when he was a kid but now won't touch them and looks down on hunting as well. My grandfather only owns hunting guns and a few .22 pistols that I will inherit some day. He thinks I'm wasting my money when I buy guns and doesn't understand why anyone would want or need an AR, home defense shotgun, .44 magnum, etc.

my father gifted me a slingshot for the bird when i was like 5, then i tried makin bows when i was like 9 and my granfather gifted me a .22 air rifle when i was 12, then i asked my father if a could shoot an old rifle it was in the house, i did in christmas when i was 14, then at 16 i converted my pellet rifle to 22lr because it harly ever killed a bird. Since then i hunt well enough with the 22 and i reload 410 with slugs i cast and homemade black gunpowder. I will make a 20 gauge canon this weekend to mass shoot pest parrots there are in my country.
btw i have to reload 22lr cases i find at the range with matches and gunpoder and shoot pellets.

My college did (does? I don't know, I graduated years ago) a yearly shoot on Constitution Day. They gave a lecture about the 2nd Amendment and the necessity of it, then a quick safety briefing, and then bussed anyone and everyone who showed up to the shooting range. They had .22lr revolvers and auto-loaders, a few 9mms, some shotguns, and a few .22lr ARs. That day I realized I needed to buy funs.

I couldn't shoot worth shit, but I at least had fun with funs.

WHY DO BITCHES DO THAT!? I KNOW 7 DIFFERENT PEOPLE WHOS MOM DID THAT! Albeit some were for other things like a purse, but still.. those were their dads how could they just sell them for meaningless shoes and shit? He didn't have anything rare or valuable, just a bunch of fudd guns (no milsurp) he hunted with (never even came home with a kill that I could remember, it was basically just an excuse to sit in a stand and shoot the shit with some old buddies he went with)

Still as it was I was 25 before I actually shot a gun. I could have had an introduction a lot sooner and I'm sure I'm feel more comfortable around them than I am since all I heard from that point was "guns are bad and get babies killed"

Not being allowed to have one. I'm one of those folks that doesn't respond well to arbitrary restrictions, especially back when I was a kid. This triggered a long-standing infatuation from afar with firearms. I think the first gun I ever got to fire was a .410 at a BSA jamboree. Hit my first clay 'cos I waited for it to be still in my sights, missed the rest of them 'cos I tried to fire at them normally and had no clue how much to lead the target by. Next time I got to fire a gun was about three years later, when a family friend (Marine bomb-squad turned pastor, pretty awesome guy) took me out to one of the local pistol ranges and let me shoot his collection. I think that's what really cemented it for me.

Good work anon. I'm a Finnfag who does pretty much the same thing with kids that are in senior high school. Military reservists here organize twice a year voluntary training courses for them with name that roughly translates as "Safety Training Course for High School Students". We organize these courses with Defense Forces, Police, emergency services etc. The training course mainly teaches them some basic safety skills (first aid, how to extinguish small fires, orienteering etc) and includes also introduction to rifle shooting with .22 LR bolt-action rifles. I have been volunteering as shooting instructor for couple of years. In basics of rifle shooting we try to teach them the most important basics - safety rules, how to handle firearms properly and (very) basic shooting skills. Some actually prove to be pretty good shots after just that minimal training, but we also try to provide every single one of them a positive experience with firearms.

Personally I started with firearms around age 13 with the .117 caliber BSA-manufactured pellet gun. Around the same time my who had older brother who had some .22 caliber pistols & rifles took me shooting a couple of times - possibly because he got me cleaning the guns after shooting. I bought my first own firearm at age 18, got into military-style weapons (modern & historical) after doing military service and have been shooting them ever since.

The basic firearms legislation in Finland is pretty strict, but with an acceptable purpose for which the firearm is used, jumping through all the loops and going with long-term plan one can actually own stuff that would be either hugely expensive or impossible to own anywhere in United States.

All firearms manufactured after year 1890 have to be licensed & registered and firearms manufactured before that can only be owned without license if one does not have ammunition for it or intent of shooting with it. The usual acceptable purposes are hunting (documentation about successfully passed hunting examination & having place where to hunt required) and shooting sports (membership in sport shooting club/reservist club required, some firearms demand additional documents with pistols & firearms being the most difficult to get permits for). Full-auto weapons only available to licensed collectors (membership of firearms historical club required, filed collection plan must include the particular weapon and one has to collect other firearms belonging to collection plan before one gets permit for full-auto stuff).

While this is not exactly based to legislation police (which is organization that processes firearm purchase permits for each firearm) dislikes applications of pistols, revolvers or semiauto rifles for hunting purposes. Getting them is possible if one is a sport shooter that does type of shooting sports in which they are used (IPSC, SRA, IDPA...)

Legislation got notably tighter few years back due to two school shooter A-holes. At the moment we are waiting for new national firearms legislation due to recent EU firearms directive.

We have no caliber-restrictions, no magazine-restrictions (new legislation is expected to possibly include some sort) and suppressors are perfectly legit to own as far as one has legally owned firearm in which to use them.

Feel free to ask if you have more specific questions.

I'm curious as to why no one has just outright fought these unconstitutional gun laws. Like, it's obviously infringing upon the second amendment. Why aren't more people suing the state government? Why aren't we seeing more of these types of cases reaching the Supreme Court? Why are y'all letting this happen? Why not write to your congress people and your representatives and try and talk some goddamn sense into them?
>>
>>34555632
On the west coast, the short answer is the 9th circuit. The laws actually do get petitioned fairly regularly, but the 9th is very left wing and hears appeals before SCOTUS. It's very difficult (and expensive, I imagine) to keep pushing for the supreme Court hearing, so most attempts die in the 9th. Now that a favorable ruling is more likely, attempts to get that far will likely begin again. We'll see how it goes.

tl;dr
Petitions do happen, but are always heard by the very liberal 9th circuit which will uphold regardless of constitutionality. One does not simply petition into the supreme Court
>>
>>34555757

Middle-income Californians tend to be nosy, vindictive, and self-absorbed. Most are happy to destroy anything they don't personally enjoy, especially if it would make them more comfortable or grant a sense of power or accomplishment. Such is life under communism. I'm looking to get out myself (going to school in a based state, thinking about staying there or in one of a few other based states), but the majority of my family is in CA, as is a lot of industry. It doesn't help (though I'm thankful for it anyway) that I'm very close to my family. My father is bittersweet about it, but when he says shit like how he knows I'll come back less and less often, and how he'll miss me but he's thankful for the time we had and that I have to do it, it tears me the fuck up. My mom is nice enough not to talk about it much, but I know it bothers her too. All that said, its too fucking expensive here either way, and fuck living at home when pic related.

It's unfortunate, because California has some of the best /out/ and /o/, and vast swaths or the state are surprisingly based and home to legitimately pleasant people. It's been jerrymandered to death though, and all the California hype the boomers were exposed to turned the cost of living up to 11.

Lexington is pretty liberal and hipsterish and definitely has some bad spots. >Realize that most gun channels are full of hillbilly retards or fanboys who get into an autistic rage if you point out a problem in their "god-tier" rifle or handgun.

Sorry to hear about your dad, my dad's gone to and I cherish the 22 he gave me when I was 11. I dont fire it anymore after it phantom ND'd one time;
>cleaning the 22
> empty the cartridges from the tube magazine
> pull back the slide to eject any chambered cartridges
> no round comes out
> visually inspect chamber to look for cartridge
>no cartridge to be found
> work slide three or four more times just to be sure
> pull trigger to release pressure on the firing pin
> boom 22 sized hole in my closet door
> okay not going to shoot this one again had a similar incident when I was 13 but I chalked it up to my stupidity

My dad was my only real range buddy, and we'd only ever go shooting with each other. He passed away last year, and I haven't made it out to the range yet cause I don't want to go without him.

being shown at 7 years old how to assemble, load and shoot a 4 ga shotgun by my father.
I could barely lift the fucker, never mind shoot it.
I still wish that he hadn't handed it in during one of the many weapon hand ins, that the UK loves to parade around.
