I did. Alright sell me on this. Why this rail? Why go through the effort of ripping the tits off my rifle, spray painting a rail, reattaching newer tits, and have to buy a new foregrip that isn't mlok.

I got the magpul drop in because it was the economically feasible thing to do and couldn't really find strong evidence to support the idea my aim would be thrown off that much. I mean I know it can be at distance where millimeters happen but I ain't shooting at those ranges. Certainly not with a budget rifle.

If it is purely for aesthetics I kind of like the look of the SL hand guard.

I honestly was just trying to throw some aesthetic parts at ya to see if anything would stick. At the end of the day you want to get something that you like the look of and that makes sense to you financially and with respect to the rest of the build. I think those look cool, you can keep your FSP, and it being quad kinda meshes with the slightly less modern look of your rifle. Bonus is that there are some sweet VFGs out there for pic rail, many more options than mlok.

I live in the sticks and can shoot on my own land, but I don't have all that much room. My property slopes down away from the road, and would require a lot of clearing for setting up a range past maybe 100 yard shooting. The AR-10 was built as more of a hunting rifle though, so I'm not worried about its effective range.

What is "decent" is going to depend on who you're talking to. If you're just looking to have a little fun I think you can get started for around $500 with the Armasight Spark Core. You'll want a helmet or something to mount it on and a high power IR illuminator to make the most of it so maybe $1000 all said and done?

Consider replacing the SI muzzle device with something more gucci. The next significant level up from the Gen1+ stuff I was talking about is going to be around $1k to $1.8k for some used or new Gen2+ nods. You're going to want a bump helmet or a IIIA ballistic to mount to. Bumps can be as cheap as $80 but then you need to figure out mounting. Surplus ACHs and MICHs are out there for between $150-$250 but right around $250 you can start getting knockoff FAST style IIIA helmets with arc rails and front NVG mounting. And I need to get a frame for it. I've been bugging Polymer 80 about the updated fullsize PF940V2, but they won't get back to me with any concrete release dates, or even a press release date for pictures/specs on the thing. They have been consistently saying that the 80% frame itself should be shipping out sometime this year but that is really vague, so in the meantime I want to get a frame so I can shoot my pistol.

I've got a few options that I was hoping to get some input on. I've got a local guy selling a low round count Gen3 G17 frame complete with trigger and all internals for $100 out the door. I also might be able to Gunbroker a brand new Gen4 G17 or G22/G31 frame complete with trigger and internals for around $185-$200.
Of course I could go with the older PF940V1.5 for $70 or so shipped and use the difference for a nice trigger (I'll want to upgrade the trigger eventually). The older PF940V1.5 of course looks like shit, but I'll be going PF940V2 eventually anyway. All three of these options are just stand ins.

To answer your question, 150 lumens isn't too low. If anything, 300 is a bit hot for indoors, get too close to a wall and it can be blinding.

I always kind of liked the XDs. Right now have a Ruger SR9, good gun but want something more durable. It feels kinda.......thin. Checked out about everyones shit, VP9, FN, XDM, CZ75 and a CZ SP something or other, M&P.

It felt the most comfortable out of all of them and felt it had the durability I was looking for.

In regards to the C4 its a matter of function. It lets me keep my FSP for now and later I can get get a low pro gas block or get a flip up gas block. Plus it allows me to free float the barrel where as right now I just have some drop ins.

In regard to the XD, that's a lot of bang for the buck with the extra mags. And I think it's pretty good looking, aside from "GRIP ZONE". they should have just put more texturing there. I'll take the XD over a Glock which has about as much character as a stapler.

Gen 3 isn't that bad as a place holder, and it seems like it would get you shooting the fastest. If you were planning on putting an aftermarket trigger in your final build, then that would save time and money in the long run, assuming the trigger you want would work well with the build you have in mind. Were you planning on reselling the frame after you are able to obtain the gen 2 p80 frame? If so, you will have better value retention with the gen 4 frame and internals. If it were me, I'd just get the gen 3 locally, go shoot it a lot, then get the trigger a little later, upgrade most of the internals and resell the stock frame as soon as the one I want comes out.
