I want something that can pop a target a few hundred yards away thats also subsonic so i can silence the fuck out of it and shoot it in my backyard. My guess is that a heavier round will carry farther, but i also want it to be quiet after ive suppressed it. Thanks

Fits the mag and chamber, but you probably won't find a subsonic 308 load that will cycle an unmodified autoloader reliably.
Interesting and related, germans had 308 training ammo that was plastic and really really weak, and that cycled with a bolt that would make a G3 straight blowback instead of roller delayed.

Heavier bullets can carry the same energy as a lighter bullet while traveling slower, and heavy subsonic rounds can reach out to 200-300 easily and deal quite a bit.
A .45-70 or other brush gun subsonic would be wise.
