Are triggers that go straight back, like on the 1911, really better than the normal ones that tilt back? Is it just preference?

Which one is better at killing people, 5.45 or M855 5.56? With M855 you destroy more tissue in general, but it won't fragment reliably, with 5.45 a body hit will destroy organs nearby with the temporary wound cavity but if it doesn't hit something inelastic like that it doesn't do shit.

You could as long as you don't get crazy with the powder charge. Most "modern" shotgun slugs will not obturate properly so you'll still need either or both a patch or wadding to get a good seal.

I currently have hogue rubber grips on my p229, I like the rubber grips, but I was wondering if the g10s would be better.

also the nearest gun range in my area is indoors and pistol calibers only, problem is I am under 21 and I live in Texas so me picking up a pistol at a gunshow is a grey area that I dont want to touch for my age.

this is why I was even considering a .22 in the first place.

what about a carbine? if the ffl's range wont allow it for some reason I will definitely get an AR15 and just drive 45 mins out of town to the outdoor range instead of 10 mins to the indoor range. Any recommendations in the sub 800 range?

What is the point of tritium night sights? Pic-related is the only kind of darkness in which the lamps stand out from the white plastic inserts mine are set in, and this is way too dark to identify anything in case of bumps in the night. I could put a light on my gun, but then they're just black silhouette irons. I paid for a meme, didn't I?

Three green dots on the left are my night sights, the lone light to the right is a standard wall mounted smoke detector.
>>

>>
>>34529694
Potential bad Joojoo, but "target identification" can mean different things at diferent times. If it's two in the morning and you hear heavy footsteps and boots coming down your hallway and you live with just your wife, you confirm your wife is in bed next to you, then hear mister boots digging through your belongings then he has already been identified as a target. Being able to align your sights does not enable you to identify your target, true. But other senses and your brain can.
>>
>>34529715
Yes, the obvious solution. The sights are black silhouettes, as I said, with a flashlight. I guess what I'm grappling with is under what lighting conditions these things would actually be useful for acquiring a sight picture.

These things seem pointless compared to getting a compact light like the XC1 for not very much more money.

>>34528505
If you wanna be a faggot about it, sure. Otherwise just get a 10/22 and some decent sites you can use to learn how to shoot.

>>34529395
Semiautomatic cycles the bolt (semi-automatically) after each shot. With a semi auto, you just pull the trigger every time you want the gun to go bang, with a bolt action you have to manually operate the bolt which cycles a new round into the chamber.

Carbine is a blanket term for any short, light rifle. Technically they can come in any caliber.

>>34529846
Beretta Cx4 or CZ Scorpion EVO.

>>34530301
Minute of Angle is a degree of measurement that basically amounts to a shot group of 1 inch at 100 yards. 2 inches at 200. 3 at 300 and so on. A 1 MOA gun theoretically groups 10 inches at a 1000 yards. You're gonna have to google that shit and read some books if you wanna understand it any better than that.

>>34530313
Typically the lower receiver or just the receiver is consider the "gun", but this is not a hard and fast rule. You could manufacture some receivers, but not many. Glock 19/17 and AR-15 are common projects and pretty easy to do.

Interestingly, this is also sometimes done to differentiate different kinds of bullet- many tracers have a second cannelure above the real one, so even if the red tip gets scratched off you can still recognize it as a tracer.

5.56

A non fragmenting m855 will yaw, guaranteeing it 5.45 esque or better performance. Also that isn't how temporary wound cavity works, at most you'd see some slight radial tearing and hemorrhage if you hit something truly inelastic like the liver. Most organs will be absolutely fine.

If both are assumed to not perform then performance will likely be identical(say, hitting a skinny with no frag or time to yaw because AOA), but then the 5.45 would have the advantage of notably lower recoil which could be nice for making those multiple follow up shots you're going to be likely to need.

Yea, but if you have a really short and light pivoting trigger the difference isn't a huge deal. OTOH, it's a whole world of difference when compared to your typical factory SA let alone DA triggers. We're talking multiple times longer and heavier pull plus the force isn't being applied in one straight direction like with the straight pull trigger.

If anything low pressure vessel like veins and capillaries are more prone to being ruptured or torn by a pressure wave than arteries as the latter are thicker and stronger at the wall.

Don't get me wrong i personally think that the passage of bullets through certain areas of the body likely produces remote radial and distal effects, a major blood vessel such as the ascending aorta perhaps being the best example of this. But suggesting that a bullet passing near or through a more distant artery such as the femoral or brachial would stop somebodies heart is pretty silly. So's suggesting that the mere passage of a bullet near by it severing or rupturing the artery without touching it.

>>
>>34533820
Its called a M1917 sling.

They still make them milsurp for the M14 DMR. You can find a NSN number if you are dedicated enough. Ebay will have some that "fell off the truck" that come in a clear plastic bag with a "label maker"-esque white with black printer ink on it. Grabbed one for ~$28 shipped a few years back.

And that is not the proper way to use that sling. Find the webpage that has a chick with a M1 and rosacea to find the proper way to use a sling.
>>
>>34533932
The German ones are better, but not worth the higher price they command, especially for the railed variant. Of course you don't buy any classic mod SIG, new production or old, if you're aiming for Price:Performance so you can go ahead and get raped by the son of a dead collector if it suits your fancy to have the very best.

H&K is a meme, don't fall for it.
Beretta M9A1 is awesome but since production stopped they're rare and overpriced.
CZ P-01 is also sort of rare. Pretty good aside from potential rusting of the unfinished internals if you drop it in water or something.
P229 is an overpriced meme and mag safeties are a liability.

Im new to carrying and handguns in general, dont really see a carry thread.

>own MP 9 shield
>impulse bought LCP2

I can shoot the LCP2 almost as well as the Shield with the stock trigger.

I almost feel like the Shield is a waste because the LCP carries so much easier, and is 6+1 380 vs 7+1 9mm.

Its obviously a bigger burden to carry the Shield, but I almost feel like the burden is just not worth it for its small increase in capacity and power.

I think I want clear, defined roles for my guns. The LCP for when I am ok for trading off capacity and power for pocket carry, and a compact doublestack for everyday carry.

Just wondering how much harder is it to carry a compact doublestack vs single stack in terms of width and weight?
I carry the shield perfectly fine, 5"11, skinnyfat gut 150 pounds

What are the recommended compact doublestack CCW guns?

Everything H&K is overpriced because you suck and they hate you, and the USP specifically uses an outdated proprietary rail, has garbage capacity (which I guess won't matter for you until you move), and uses shitty, cheap polygonal rifling despite its price point.
CZ's unfinished internals means CZ does not apply a protective finish to their internal parts. It's a cost cutting measure that hurts the end user if the gun isn't just a range toy.

I've got a Marlin 60 that has consistent FTEs/stove pipes with every type of 22lr I've tried other than CCI Standard Velocity and Mini-mag.

Its got the original style of feed throat/ejector where it's a two piece Zinc casting, not one of the two later styles with the spring ejector. So the "Nickel Trick" doesn't apply. The thing has barely any rounds through it. My dad bought it back in the 70s, put about a brick through it, then left it in a case without cleaning it for 40 years, until I got my hands on it. I cleaned the shit out of it and put a brick of CCI Mini-mag through it with no issues. But I tried to use some old AE and Super X in it and the stoppages were ridiculous. Roughly 75% of the rounds fire resulted in FTEs or stove pipes. Same with Thunderbolts. Automatch was a little better but still 50% of the rounds. I put a brick of CCI SV through it and had no stoppages.

Anyone know what the fuck is up with this thing? I'm guessing it's not the ejector since it runs CCI flawlessly and even though it has some obvious wear (pic) it's only had about 500rds total through it. My guess is the 70s era recoil spring has crapped out. Any other guesses?

Just bought a mossy 590a1 from Bud's gun shop, wondering, can I pump the action back in forth with the safety on? I went to a local gun shop and tried out a mossy 500 and after I worked the action once it wouldn't pull back.

Basically if I wanted to pump the action back and forth multiple times, does the safety have to be off?

What are some other compatible caliber/cartridge choices for a mil-spec at 15 lower?

300 blackout seems retarded and I'm not excited about building another 556.

Does anyone know how often DD restocks their rails, in particular this one or the one without the fsp cutout?

Probably. If you're 21 it isn't a problem. If not, get your mom to sign it.

where can I get a full sized uzi/uzi carbine and not get jewed on the price?
>>
>>34540901
pretty much every short action caliber will work. 204 ruger, 22lr, 6.5 grendel, 6.8 SPC, 7.62x39, 22 Nosler, 5.7x28mm, 458 socom, 50 Beowulf, and just about every pistol caliber on the planet. As long as the cartridge is short enough, and you can find an upper to fit it, you're golden.
>>
>>34540843
Headspacing is the issue. If you can get it to headspace 6.8 SPC then it shouldn't be an issue.

G10 aren't soft at all, they're a harder/denser/more brittle feeling polymer (its fiberglass sheets laminated in a press with some kind of adhesive), they're smooth but grippy and get grippyer when wet oddly enough

i have the hogue G10 with checkering on my P228, ive worn it down a bit but the checkering is pretty aggressive when new. i think the uncheckered ones would be grippy enough on their own, and it gets grippyer when your palms start to sweat. they look really good as a bonus

A Makarov is going to be my first handgun (currently being shipped) I have a big hardon for slav guns and milsurps. If I had to shoot a man with it would it take them down? I'm constantly hearing debates over if 9x18 is too weak of a round or not.
>>
>>34541019
oh and to add the G10s are slimmer than stock plastic grips all the way round, and probably slimmer than the rubber ones (although those depress when gripped) so consider that as well before buying

for it's the perfect size of my hands, and the decocker bump on the G10s >>34527809
fits perfectly between my thumbs knuckle and joint so i can lay it flat against the frame, unlike the stock grips that have that whole upper area enlarged which pushes it out at an angle
>>
>>34541029
Its a stupid first gun but 9x18 is fine.
>>
>>34541029
it would if you hit him in a vital area just as well as 9mm or .45 would, but you have to consider the fact that you're only going to have 8+1 rounds to do that with

it's pretty much .380 and most of the hollowpoint ammo is shit, from what i remember it's either only some type of hornady defense or buffalo bore thats worth it as far as hollowpoints go, those are the only ones that reliable expansion and decent penetration. you probably just want to stick with FMJ

>>

Many times it is plated steel and not pure brass, look at some of the old shells on the ground or in a bin when you go to the range, they start to rust after a while.

I shoot raccoons at night trying to get into my chicken coop. I use a single six, without night sites. I miss half the time because I can't line up my shot properly even with a bright flashlight held behind the gun. And the other half of the time is because I'm a bad shot.
Light shows Target, night sights show where on the target you're aiming, and it all happens using one hand.

>>
>>34541991
Yeah, that's the one the three guys had.
I'm not into firearms at all to be honest, i had no idea you could build a gun like that yourself, but i doubt these guys built it, i bet they bought it.

Home made doesn't mean he built it himself. It is built in small workshops, it's not an officialy manufactured version like the AK47 and M16 they used 15 years ago. These guys are small time operations and the weapons they make are of very low quality.
>>
>>34523781
correct me if I'm wrong, but shotgun actions are generally less finnicky with how they load the next cartridge than pistols. You want something that will feed reliably, brass/metal is far better. Coupled with how utterly terrible it would be to try and reload used .45 plastic shells....
>>
>>34542044
So you're saying this could blow up in a person's face while shooting it?
how can they manufacture these in small workshops, aren't the measurements of the parts supposed to be exact to avoid bullets blowing up in your face? And sight alignment? And bullet comparability? Or is it not as hard as i think it is?
Excuse my lack of knowledge, this really piqued my interest.

Guns are really fucking simple, despite what they would have you believe. Making something that will last 50 years takes a whole lot more effort and precision than something that probably won't jam over the duration of a single firefight. A catastrophic failure is pretty simple to avoid so long as the chamber seals reasonably well.

Still having trouble researching these handguns. Manufacturers obviously don't put the glaring flaws of their products on their website and separating memes, fuddlore, and shilling from reality in forum posts is hard.

Honestly man get a Glock 19. If you don't like something about it you can change almost every single part. The only thing you can't do is give it a hammer. Even then you can sell it and not lose much compared to a USP which loses 30% of its value when you first pull the trigger.
