Interesting factoid about the Russo-Japanese war of 1904, it was the first time an Asian power beat a Western power in modern times which shocked Europe and humiliated the Russians and was a contributing factor in the Russians looking to redeem themselves in WWI.

I doubt the Russians will win. Their last war was in the 1870s against the Turks, and they didn't perform very well in that war. Meanwhile, the Japs have been fighting in China and Taiwan for most of this decade, gaining lots of military experience along the way. Also, the Japs are in the process of adopting a new Mauser based rifle while the Russians have probably the worst service rifle in Europe.
