can someone red pill me on why ppl don't just use a mosin to hunt?
>>
>>34514545
Buy a Mosin and go hunt Kodiaks. No one can teach you like experience.
>>
>>34514551
if someone legit took an adult kodiak with a mosin, they would be issued a lifetime man card.
>>
>>34514545
They're too long and heavy. Also proper SP and expanding ammo 7.62x54R is relatively scarce in most places.
>>
>>34514545
But people do.
>>
>>34514551
if i was given one i would. in my area is nignog bears
>>
I want to hunt ducks, what should I get. Give me lots of options because Inhave yet to check what guns are legal here
>>
>>34514778
A shotgun. That gives you thousands of firearms to sift through.
>>
>>34514680
Man don't hunt black bears. It's so easy and they're so passive that you'll end up feeling like shit if you shoot one.
>>
>>34514820
then what gun should i get for deer hunting?

Bears are not only very skittish, they are a lot smarter than deer. Good luck if you're not hunting over bait. A 12ga shotgun will take both Deer and Bear if you're using hard slugs for the latter. Pic related is last fall from a 20ga. I don't even bother with 12ga when I go each year, I believe 20ga is .50 caliber or similar.
>>
>>34514840
i would prefer a rifle though

That's the exit hole btw. Shotguns are so popular because they're versatile enough to take any game in North America. Birds, rabbits, squirrels, moose, lions, everything. When in doubt, pick a 12ga pump. $250 will get you the only shotgun that passed US Army trials: Mossberg 500.
>>
>>34514505
ruger american, savage axis, Remington 738
>>
>>34514857
Then just get a Mossberg or Savage bolt-action. Both are decent, but you're going to spend more because you have to buy glass. Also, enjoy the EEEEEEEEEE when you fire a rifle after hours of quietness. :^)
>>
>>34514809
Anywhere to start? More like what to avoid. It would be my first gun whatsoever (Although because of that I suppose that I should forst get a .22 and practice shooting with it before having the shotgun fly away because I did not knew what to expect)
>>
>>34514505
>Im thinking 308 bolt
Get something classy like 7x57. Ammo is plentiful and it has been taking game around the world since before the .30-06.
>>
>>34514953
Name a single, affordable, non-limited production rifle in 7x57

fucking coalburners I swear

>>34514934
op here this is not me i have shot guns before (mostly handguns)

>>34514910
i like the Remington and the ruger

recommendations?
>>

With regard to bears: Black bears are small and skittish, you may get feels if you bag one. Brown bears are furry bulldozers that will fuck your shit up if you don't hit it in the brain or vitals with a stout cartridge/shell.

For deer, range is important:

< 50 yards: 12 gauges slugs will work well. In heavily forested areas, that may also be about as far as you can see. Some places only allow you hunt with shotgun slugs because of the risk of a rifle bullet traveling a couple of miles and hitting something that isn't a deer.

<150-200 yards: 30-30 or other lighter .30 cartridges have enough energy to drop a deer at this range with good shot placement. Past 200 yards, accuracy and KE are not so good.

>200 yards: .270, .308. 30-06 or any other full powered rifle cartridge will be quite adequate for as far are you're liable to see a deer, much less hit it.

>>34514934
Mossberg 500, watch YouTube on how to shoulder a firearm and where to put your feet/weight. There's probably thousands of tutorials.
>>

$1089
Basically a pre-64 Model 70 clone.

allgood m8.

That rifle is neither of those things

Oh?
>>affordable
$1089 is affordable if you're not a NEET. Especially for a domestically produced mauser action rifle.
>>
>>34515181
>$1089 with no scope and no rings
And the entire Montana Rifle company line is limited production. They're a boutique maker

I am checking the Law, Article 10* section III and article 9* section II, city and country folk get to own any shotgun that in inferior to 12gauge and is longer than 635mm as long as you hunt. That gives me lots of options

Maybe I should get a non-firearm (airgun for small game) and hunt for a while with it, just to start getting used to it and be able to "apply" in the "does hunt" category
>>
>>34515181
Well, he asked for cheap. $1000 isn't cheap. A 2-MOA Savage or Mossberg is cheap.

>>34515216
A .22lr will kill a US large deer with a side head-shot or neck shot to the spinal cord to paralyze. Speaking from experience here. So, if you can match the performance of 40gr going 1100 fps, then an airgun is feasible, but you're getting into pricey options.
>>
>>34515216
GOOD air rifles are highly under-rated. They can be very accurate, very quite, and take small game as reliably as a 22 LR. The only thing that they will struggle with is range, but hunting technique can compensate for that. There are also some big bore air rifles that can take larger game.
>>
>>34515268
Just because you can, it doesn't mean that you should. If you miss the central nervous system, that deer is going bolt and then die a slow and painful death.
>>
>>34516544
Correct, but when you have 7 white children to feed when your job is out-sourced and there's a surplus of deer so bad that they're hiring snipers to hit them in the city, then desperate times call for desperate measures. Kids need meat and protein to grow. You know this.

The deer brain is like 3x4 inch. You need to be close and know what you're doing. You only get 1 chance most times, and nobody wants to track a suffering deer 5 miles across country and property. My post was by no means a wanton suggestion, but only fact.
>>
>>34516524
The range equation is solved by velocity, and I'm sure you know that; just want to get that out there. I wish the larger bore ones had a market for lighter projectiles.
