They did actually make .45ACP Uzi carbines, I think some as factory guns, some as conversion kits, just replacing the barrel, bolt and magazines.
I would suggest the oldschool fixed stock for comfort and shooting pleasure, and looking slightly less awkward with the long skinny barrel. Maybe a vented shroud or fake silencer if it still looks a bit awkward.

No idea how easy they are to find or what price they fetch. Is the ban by name or would a Norinco or Vector clone be legal?

The discussion was State Laws, not Federal Laws.

The Uzi rifles are closed bolt blowback guns firing in semi-auto only, there's nothing in Federal Law that bans or restricts them, short of fitting one with a short barrel, making it a Short Barreled Rifle

Importing them is a bit of a tricky thing though, as semi-auto rifles with double-stacked magazines aren't allowed in.
