Any one know where to shoot for free in colorado ?

Anyone have a link that has a map of places you can shoot for free in different states ?
>>
>>34503327

So I've heard.

There's like a ten dollar cover charge
>>
>>34503337
More info ? How do I find a good BLM spot ?

Spoon feed me please
>>
>>34503363
Yeah but the special effects will blow you away.
>>
>>34503340
>>34503363
Too soon, Anons.
>>
>>34503412
There are plenty of BLM maps online, or you can buy good maps at Cabelas or Bass Pro.
>>
Also Coloradofag. want to shoot, but not at a range. how far from the road do you have to be?
>>
>>34503523
At least 50 yards for a public road, and not pointing your barrel at the road (obviously). Just make sure it's shootable land. If you're near a private road, the 50 yard rule doesn't apply.
>>
>>34503412
go to your local BLM office and buy a super detailed map for $5.00, what part of CO? I'm in the 4 corners and hike/shoot all the time in CO
>>
Why do you keep talking about black lives matter
>>
I go to the pawnee grasslands. Crowded as fuck on weekends though.
>>
Unrelated . How do you like living in Co ? And what part? Related. Is it true Denver is the worst place to own a gun?
>>
>>34503327
I went camping once out by FairPlay (South Park) in rmnp and had a blast with a bunch of friends shooting a bunch of different guns. If you're in Denver I think cherry creek state park has a very cheap public range if you just wanna punch holes in paper.
>>
>>34504813
Not OP but when I lived in Aurora/Denver from 2010-2013 most of the people and police had a pretty welcoming and libertarian attitude towards guns. Things might have hanged since the population explosion after the devils lettuce was legalized though.
>>
>>34504890
Cherry Creek Gun Range is pretty good. One of the few places that sells .38 S&W, so my Iver Johnson likes it.
>>
>>34504813
>>34504890
Live in CO, too: Can confirm.
>>
>>34503327
Chaffee County has a public range. It's in BFE, so there's that but they have a decent rifle range with steel out to about 400 yards, as well as pistol ranges that are closed off from each other and the rifle range so you can drill. It was free when I went, and there weren't any ROs.
>>
>>34504928
Douglas County, on the other hand, has many good gun stores and Sheriffs who don't give a damn about 15 round caps.
>>
>>34504947
Beautiful terrain there. Great scenery for shooting in.
>>
>>34503327
Check out movie theaters
>>
>>34503327
Traveling State Highway 67 north from the turnoff in Woodland Park, you'll find a patch of unincorporated campground on the Teller-Douglas County border - just north of the Rainbow Falls campground.

Completely self-operated, no ROs, the locals from WP and Divide utilize it for target practice amongst other things.

Think what you will, but it's nowhere near as notorious as the old Rampart Range site. Those were some crazy motherfuckers!
>>
>>34504975
>>
>>34504956
What's the current situation with Douglas County, politically?
>>
>>34504890
>>34504910
Here
>>34505046
I would also like to know what's become of Colorado since I've left. I've longed to return but if it's turned into California that'll be a major turn off
>>
>>34505098
How long have you been away?
>>
>>34505098
>>34505046
Well, it's purple-leaning blue. Douglas County is solidly conservative and over 90% white. True, Calis have been moving to CO in general, but since other states have legalized weed we'll hopefully see a drop off in migrants.
>>
>>34505118
Moved back to Florida in 2013.
>>
>>34504060
They aren't retard
>>
>>34505027
Is that the closest public shooting area to the Springs? I heard there was an area by Gold Camp Rd but I haven't been there myself.
>>
>>34505124
My experience, pretty much, during the population boom in 2000 when Lucent Tech had shifted there. I remember when it was an open prairie and everyone, more or less, was happy!
>>
>>34505156
Fuck, how I miss all those open spaces. Too many people moving here. Fuck off, we're full!
>>
>>34505146
Stay away from Gold Camp! Serious bad juju happens along that stretch.

As for a range, that's new on me.
>>
>>34505180
:( can I still come back?
>>
>>34505180
Agreed.
>>
>>34505192
Going to leave the Coast Psychosis at the state line...? :-?
>>
>>34505192
Yes, you can come back. Don't bring any coastal attitudes.
>>
>>34505207
I live in Lee county swfl. It's bright red here.
>>
>>34505228
Floridians are cool.
Texans are, too, but y'all can't drive for shit at the sight of snowflakes, though.
>>
>>34505184
What kind of juju are we talking about?
I'm not talking about ranges, just some nice, free public shooting areas that are at least sort of close to the Springs.
>>
>>34505254
I delivered pizza in lone tree/parker for two years in a Jetta with all seasons. No accidents. I'll agree that most floridian drivers are aids tho.
>>
>>34505273
Parker bro here. Love this town, hate the traffic.
>>
>>34505264
Gold Camp Road - not Lower Gold Camp Road - but further up the stretch beyond Skyway neighborhood and North Cheyenne Canon: well known body-dumping site, and the old tunnels up there are said to be haunted.
>>
>>34505285
Yeah, never been to those tunnels but I've wanted to hunt spooks in them for some time.
>>
>>34505264
Well, you could always travel east on 24 past Peterson AFB and Dragon Man, find some patch out by Calhan or Yoder, I guess.

I don't know the Eastern Plains that well, though. Check to make sure the land's public or private.
>>
>>34505283
It was kinda bad when I left. I imagine it's only gotten worse. I miss all my friends there.
>>
>>34505283
True dat.
>>
>>34505302
Heard some anecdotes 'bout those who tried it: fingerprints on car trunks, violent specters, possession, and the like.

Not sure, if it's true, but I'm keeping my distance.
>>
>>34503327
If you're out by Granby, there are several spots on highway 40 set up almost sporadically facing the mountains. Just look for several rickety old benches with stands along the horizon.
>>
>>34503327
Free shooting ranges in keystone and weld county. The one in keystone has free targets and earpro, rso's on some days (schedule is online). The one in weld county occasionally has rangers swing by.
>>
>>34505098

Urban sprawl has pretty much metastasized far south of County Line Road, between Douglas and Arapahoe - well south of Highlands Ranch Parkway and Santa Fe Boulevard, creeping its cookie-cutter, Richman, Sanford, and Shea tendrils a stone's throw away from Castle Rock.

Castle Rock practically is Denver Metro Area, by default, now; whenever RTD Light Rail inevitably spreads down there, it's over!

Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree practically merged into an anamorphic expanse of HOA, Stepford-Wife mediocrity and matchstick quality. Should've seen that coming when Mervyn's on County Line shut down and the luxury dealership opened.

Seriously: Who the fuck on County Line had enough bank to try to finance a Ferrari - a fucking FERARRI!? It was de-facto "the sticks", at the time not fucking rich-bitch Greenwood Village!
>>
>>34505285
>>34505302
>>34505368
That's some spooky shit. I didn't think there was anything like that in the Springs. It'd almost sound fun if I wasn't a huge, superstitious coward.

>go to local pawn shop to buy a gun
>meet old lady working there who sells it to me
>she recommends Gold Camp Rd for free shootan
>huh, never heard of it
>never see her again
Really gets the noggin joggin
>>
>>34505645
Where was this pawn shop? Not south of Platte Avenue, was it? Fountain, Security and Widefield - forget about it!
>>
>>34505636
Knew some people that lived in Heritage Hills and some other communties around there. They could definitely afford ferarris and such.
>>
>>34505812
That'd explain it. This was at the time when it first opened, much to the perplexity of the locals. Still, fun to troll the salesmen that one time.
>>
>>34505838
I can only imagine that most of that land was empty before I moved there. I but it was an odd sight to see that dealer go up.
>>
>>34505860
*bet
>>
>>34505870
It was empty - and, yes - it was rather peculiar.

Anyway, back to guns!

Specialty Sports on the southeast corner of Fountain and Murray (COS) is one of the largest independent retailers of firearms and sporting goods in SoCo. If you're looking for a chain store, try Sportsmans' Warehouse on Platte and Citadel, southwest of Citadel Mall. :-)

Hey anon, colofag here.
National Forests are best if you live on the front range.
So Baker Draw east of FoCo is a good public range, please clean up after yourself.
Roosevelt National Forest is good. There are a lot of burn areas there from 4 years ago, bad erosion in places have created excellent backstops.
In Roosevelt I'd suggest going to Stove Prairie Elementary School and driving onto the service road. Good camping spots and spots to shoot.
If in the mountains along 70, Minturn near Vail has a good public range called Two Elk Shooting Area just 10 minutes away.
Pic is from Two Elk
>>
>>34506172
Gorgeous pic, anon. Of course, any pic of my homeland is gorgeous.
>>
>>34506172
Ty anon. Volunteered to clean the range yesterday.
Shameful what some people do to ranges.
Ovens, flat screen tvs, microwaves, and a refrigerator.
Had wildfire helis passing over us the whole time.
>>
>>34506195
>>34506217
Meant for you.
>>
>>34506217
Where was the fire?
>>
>>34506240
Breckenridge not a big fire yet, beetle kill burning.
Got another near Bond, "Gutzler Fire" it's around 1000 acres now.
Had a bunch of fires break out last week.
>>
>>34506264
Oy. Damn beetles.

>>34506287
No kidding. May as well get the burn over with in the beetle kill; and Brobreck got hit hard by them.
I recall many times when I worked in Vail getting tourists asking about "those beautiful brown pines," only to tell them a beetle killed them.
Fortunately the worst of the beetle is behind us.
In regards to /k/ the burn areas are good to shoot in.
>>
>>34506344
I like the look. The dead trees give it a bit of a dystopian/post-apocalypse feel, like Fallout or something.
>>

Showed that photo to my parents, you can't see the crazy grin I have. But she said it was like a scene from the end of the world.

Are you eying the one in Denver on armslist?
Looks/looked nice.
Here is my burner email; [email protected].
I operate/sperg out in the woods almost every weekend. Usually casual trips out into the woods.
Btw, currently fixing up a CETME that needed love, gonna resell after I am done. Would give a /k/ommando a good price.
>>
>>34506586
Looking at one in particular. It's gonna be a bit before I can get it. Hopefully someone won't snatch it up before then. Until then, I still got my Eddystone.
>>
>>34506606
The one at Old Steel? They are a decent shop, 2 of the staff are awful, the younger guy is great though.
Send me an email sometime I am almost every weekend doing an overnight to camp and blast guns.
>>
>>34506694
Never even heard of them until this thread. Thanks, Anon. No, the one I'm looking at is somewhere else and less expensive than that one. I'll probably join you sometime for an overnight blast-a-thon.

Couldn't tell you, as I'm not one [spelunker]. Cave of the Winds off of 24's little more than a tourist trap, now - nowhere near, as impressive, as it used to be. Idiot tourists had snapped off stalactites as souvenirs; "Manbearbig" episode helped nothing, in that regard.

When I was stationed in Colorado Springs I would drive up Gold Camp road deep into the mountains. Eventually you pass a sign that basically says "you may now start shooting". The mountains are a natural backstop, there's no homes. Flash floods eroded the road and it was closed when I left in 2014. I don't know if they were every able to repair it. I had a lot of fond memories of shooting clays and setting up a bench for 600 yard shots. Goddam I miss Colorado. How did I end up in the shithole that is Houston?

Woodland Park is obviously pretty sweet, but please keep an eye out for fires and for heavens sake don't trash the place. That is how spots get shut down.

Houston is basically the armpit of texas, it is too fucking humid for texas. Also loads of "refugees" from katrina who have overstayed their welcome by 13 years. Also the issue with texas is that there is basically 0 public land to shoot on and all of the ranges are NO FMJ, NO AK47, NO STEEL CASE, NO MORE THAN 1 SHOT PER 5 SECONDS. Basically if you move to texas and dont have 40+ acres you might as well be living in somewhere out east

>"cucked mags"

Then-El Paso County Sheriff, Terry Maketa (AKA "Shirtless Wonder), did attempt to file an injunction against the standard-cap proviso. Kingdom of Denver wouldn't hear of it, naturally, but every other sheriff and his mother in the entire state pretty much told Denver to pound sand. Front Range Urban Cuckold, on the other hand, is another matter.

Douglas County, going south along I25 to the state line, more-or-less agrees; Arapahoe County, going north along I25, running through KoD, Peoples' Republik of Boulder, and Ft. Carson, on the other hand, believe otherwise.

One could feel confident, carrying a piece - such as a FN five-seven or a Springfield XD(M) - but I myself wouldn't risk a standard-cap magazine, as I simply don't know the politics of the primary officer, conducting a traffic stop.

Play it safe: Carry a <15-cartridge magazine and keep the standard/high-cap magazines well hidden.

That's my $0.02, anyway.

Live in the Peoples Republik of Boulder, there is still some hope.
Graduated from Boulder High in 2012 and introduced everyone of my friends to shooting. The teachers were cancerous but there were a surprising amount of right leaning students.
Also, What is a good area to set up a homestead that is not to far away from boulder. I don't mind driving even 45 minutes but my job is in Boulder.

Lol, I enjoy Ned. Yeah they are weird but really nice, all they really want to do is be left alone.
I plan on looking for another at least 6 months as property values in boulder are rising rather rapidly, I plan on leaving when google moves in.
I have 2 horses and may have a 3rd for a while, so I need a good amount of land. If I can get enough land to shoot on as well and build a range that is a bonus.

If you want to procure standard magazines out-of-state - such as MagPul, who had to relocate to Wyoming after Hickendoof Evil Incorporated signed the gun-control bills - just take a weekend off-work and take a drive. Ensure you stay at least five-plus hours out-of-state before you make the return trip; CSP is looking for CO plates who've all but performed an abrupt turnaround about an hour after crossing the state line.

That's how it works for fireworks, anyway.

Your talking about the STP Family, the guy who tried it is in prison but was trying to "avenge" his friend who was murdered in cold blood in 71. STP is no loner really around.
That guy was one of the last STP members in Colorado because they kinda faded into obscurity in the 80s and 90s.
That is not to say that there are not any dangerous hippies in ned, but by and large they want to be left . I would be more concerned about the drugs moving through boulder.
>>
>>34512210
That's them. When it happened my dad told me about them and his own experiences with Nederland back in the late 70s/early 80s.
He described them as aggressive beggars.
Good know they are gone.
>>
>>34512221
yup, Colorado has really calmed down since the 70s from what I have heard. The drugs on the other hand have flowed ever easier.
When I was a Senior there was a kid that brought 1000 tabs to school, A lot of drugs move through boulder high.
>>
>>34512240
My brother told me as much, he went to CU.
There was a large drug bust across the street from his apartment one year.
>>
>>34512259
Yup, but the cops seem to tacitly endorse dealers as long as they don't cause to much trouble, that is not a bad thing though.
If the cops were actually hard on drugs though we would see far more busts, as long as no one overdoses or is causing issues at a federal level people are left alone.

It's like "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED", but goes even farther. There's nothing to be gained from touching it. Constitutional amendments require a 55% super-majority now. If we failed to amend it, you might see a bloomberg-funded counter proposal on the next ballot.

>THIS SECTION DOES NOT PROTECT AN INDIVIDUAL'S RIGHT TO POSSESS A SHORT SHOTGUN FOR SELF-DEFENSE. The statutory prohibition on short shotguns is a reasonable exercise of the state's police power. People v. Sandoval, 2016 COA 14, -- P.3d -- [published February 11, 2016].
>TRIAL COURT ERRED IN REVIEWING ORDINANCE REGULATING THE EXERCISE OF THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS UNDER THE STRICT SCRUTINY STANDARD. The right to bear arms may be regulated by the state under its police power in a reasonable manner. Robertson v. City & County of Denver, 874 P.2d 325 (Colo. 1994); Rocky Mtn. Gun Owners v. Hickenlooper, 2016 COA 45M, 371 P.3d 768.
>NO ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. The right to bear arms is not absolute, and it can be restricted by the state's valid exercise of its police power. People v. Garcia, 197 Colo. 550, 595 P.2d 228 (1979).
>The right to bear arms is not absolute as that right is limited to the defense of one's home, person, and property. People v. Ford, 193 Colo. 459, 568 P.2d 26 (1977).
That one raises a good point, the state constitution only mentions defense.
>ORDINANCE IS RELATED TO A LEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT INTEREST AND IS A VALID EXERCISE OF POLICE POWER where assault weapons are weapons of choice for drug traffickers and other criminals and where they account for thirty percent of the weapons used by organized crime, gun trafficking, and terrorists and over twelve percent of drug-related crimes nationwide. Colorado land is too expensive now thanks to the influx of Californians.

IKR? Ninety percent of the time, they can barely tolerate the winters and end up selling, if they weren't out to "flip" the property, in the first place. Prices are spiked and the local guys lose out!

Thanks a lot, Johnny/Jane Jackass from SoCal! Go infest more of Portland, OR, or something; leave our state out of it!

OP here.

Me and a friend drove out to the Baker Draw place. About an hour and a half away from downtown Denver where we live. Dirt road is really bumpy with ditches. If you have a bigger car it will be better but my lowered Mazda (pic related) made it. The actual range was pretty busy including with kids running around so we drove a few miles past and pulled off on a nice spot. It was awesome, you could tell people had shot there due to the amount of casings, shells, and shattered clays all over, before for better or worse. Only one car drove by the entire time, they waved and drove a half mile or so further, we could hear them shooting after a few minutes. Pic related is my buddy with his Ruger 10/22. We also shot my Ruger AR556. We had some paper targets but ended up just taping up some bottles and cans for fun. Would highly recommend for Coloradans.

You know I used to go here occasionally when I lived closer to it. Matinees are like 6 bucks I think, and nobody goes specifically because of the shooting.

I myself haven't had a problem with blacks; maybe, I just lucked out. Latinos, on the other hand, are a different story, believing they can stomp on the local gringos because "mi 1848, niƱo blanco! Toda la raza, nada!"

Almost every damn interaction I've ever had with 'em's been absolute horseshit, and 99% of the time, I didn't even do anything!

This is the only place I know of. It's pretty decent and not horribly far from civilization. I just wish people would use some common sense when setting up. Pretty often I see nuggetbeards and teens standing on top of the berms instead of nestling safely in between them, putting targets way at the apex of the hills, etc.

Also what the fuck is up with that random ass road that looks like a shooting lane? I tried to set up there one time and right as I was loading up a car drove out of nowhere from where, and I walked in to see what the fuck was up and the road just randomly ends at like a 60 degree incline on a hill like some scp shit

Kingdom of Denver does not like feeling irrelevant, nor does Hickendoof - the shit-bag, Pennsylvanian Quaker - like being reminded of just how irrelevant the little fiefdom really is.

Is that the former Rocky Flats Plant, or was that Arvada?
>>

I had actually posted about an incident I had at that site on another thread, "Bad Shooting Experiences".

I think that road might be for Forest Service use, and I may have seen some ATVs off-roading on it... even though there are perfectly good access routes, on which to quad, at Rainbow fucking Falls!

Long shot here, but does anyone know of any BLM land in Florida? I know the eastern US is basically chock full, but if there's any quiet places to shoot in Florida that would be nice to know.

If you're still looking to hunt some spooks, you could try "Historic Onaledge" B&B in Manitou Springs. Presence there's said to be ambivalent: Shifting chairs, shutting doors, and stuff.

>"Fallout: Rockies"

Don't tell mi waifu; she's a Fallout fanatic - had to stand in line at the nearest branch of Target at 07:30MST in the hopes of obtaining "Nuka Cola Quantum", bottled by Jones' Soda Co. Target ran dry, so we just scooped up Jones' usual product and called it a day.

Still... managed to nab the VDSG Collectors' Edition, though.

Can anyone confirm proof-of-concept with this COA?
>>
Ooh - since this thread's still active (whenever it's archived, I'll probably just start a new thread), I was wondering, if any fellow /K/olofags knew where a SoCo man could source any 80% lowers/kits, locally?

I'd rather not have to order them from afar, if I could just buy them and get to work same-day, more or less.

Literally anywhere on BLM lands. Just don't shoot any glass bottles or shit that will make big amounts of litter. I shoot on the Pawnee grass lands sometimes, but that might be a ways away from you.

Depending on the type of raod, if it's a COUNTY road, it's 50 feet. Off a regular like highway or road like that, much further. If it's dirt, go 50.
