I've been wanting a lower cost .22lr gun for fun target practice. Are new MKs worth it? What about previous generations?
I'd buy a newer one. The previous models had a reputation for being tedious to disassemble. The mkIV is much easier to break down for cleaning.

Yes. My grandma already sent hers back. Something to do with the safety failing. Ruger will fix it for free but you have to eat the shipping cost to send it to them.

Really? That's odd, I just shipped 2 guns back to Ruger last month (mini-14 which I messed up and a 10/22 which kept stovepiping [they didn't know why either]) and they covered the shipping both ways.

That's just what she told me. Ruger probably does cover the shipping both ways but grandma doesn't do internet and did it the old-fashioned way I imagine.

Majestic arms makes a speed strip kit for older generations, so let the take down stop you if you like the older ones better.

The new MK's are beautiful as they are accurate out of the box. Easy takedown makes for easier maintenence, leading to how frequently you keep it clean. Aftermarket for 22/45 is something I am greatly looking forward to.
Worth the extra dollars.
