Depends. Normally just one in 8+1 in the gun and a 10 round spare. When I am going out of town or visiting nearby urban cultural enrichment zones, I'll carry a second 10 rounder.

I have a sort of autismo sliding scale for longer roadtrips. Anything over fifty miles and the 590 goes in the truck with a mixed box of buck, bird and slugs. Anything over a hundred and one of the ARs goes with my pattern 83 inna woods rig.

Just one in the small pocket on my jeans. If I'm going somewhere i know would be filled with people, I carry 2 spare mags. Total of 30rds or 45 if it's somewhere a terror attack could happen.

It will take many years for the springs to weaken even with the pressure of 15 rounds weighing in it 24/7. I mean every once in a while it's smart just to make sure it still works but you really shouldn't practice at the range with your carry mag
