I'm pretty new to guns and stumbled upon this guy's videos on Youtube. In particular he's talking about something called clearing buckets. Sounds pretty simple, you keep a bucket of sand in every room of your house in case you need to clear a gun. But is it really necessary?

His videos are some of the best I've found on Youtube but I'm not sure if the info is any good.

Yea, I hope you're not clearing and disassembling your firearms without a clearing bucket. It's one of the main rules of firearms safety.

YM is a solid youtuber and calls out thegun idiots and caliber cucks

This man's videos are to be avoided and ignored

This. In fact, I have made a point of carrying a clearing bucket with me anywhere I take my gun. I've made one that's a little smaller for portable use.

If you aren't a fucking gorilla it's not hard to load/unload a firearm without NDing

Yeah but sometimes guns just go off when you clear them even if you don't pull the trigger.

I'm carrying earpro too, since clearing into the bucket indoors over and over can really wreck your hearing

I have and use mine regularly. Rather than racking the slide of your gun it is much safer and easier to simple discharge, or "clear", it into a bucket of sand in your house.

That's what their purpose is.

meh. He's about as entertaining and informative as you can expect for a niche daily series without any writers.
>>
Why the fuck would you ever need to clear a gun in your house?
Snap caps were invented for a reason, and having a gun with a bullet in the chamber at all times is kind of dumb and pointless. How much time are you really saving by not charging it?
>>
>>34496888
>>Not disabling your Glock with mud when not in use so it is rendered totally safe

Nice trips, but Glocks are designed to use the operators leg as a clearing shot receptacle making mud redundant.
>>
YankeeFudgepacker is the worst clickbaiting sack of cancer and AIDS ever shat out by the gun community. He is directly responsible for fuddlore and leads too many inbred morons astray to justify his use of the planet's oxygen. Clearing buckets are a total farce. The correct solution to clearing your aftermarket-fabulous Glock is to own a clearing aquarium. The aquarium filled with water provides a much safer medium to discharge into and you can collect the slug easily without fear of ricochet or sand spray. Buckets are simply too small of a target at 5 feet for Marshall viewers anyway.
>>
>>34496998
He's talking cops or people who carry every day and may have one in the chamber that's stuck. Happened to me with an old milsurp gun, had to use a screw driver to get it out all Zulu style, but the weapon was potentially dangerous the whole time, so sometimes the best choice is to just discharge the firearm in the great outdoors you can just shoot at the ground, but if you are a city folk, living in an partment you may not have a safe space to discharge unless you plan driving to the range with a hot gun in your trunk.

The idea is that instead of racking the slide to clear the chamber, which frequently causes accidental discharges, you just discharge the chambered round into a bucket of sand. This way there is no chance of a negligent discharge.

I think it has to do more with a round stuck in the chamber or a malfunction where the slide is locked up and wont rack back...so easy way to break the freeze up is to just shoot the gun and also make it Cool...meaning no longer having live round

How the fuck would a proper clearing ever lead to a negligent discharge? You drop the mag, rack the slide back, the round pops out and you release the slide on an EMPTY chamber. There's no 'my firing pin is filthy because I've never cleaned my gun so it went off' tomfoolery. Even if the extractor failed to grab the round, there's a reason you're supposed to visually inspect the chamber. And in that situation, just wiggle the gun and tilt it until the round pops out through the ejection port or empty magwell.
>>
I think YM is a fucking idiot but his idea of having an object that you know will both safely take a round and minimize splash back is a good idea.

Then again, /k/ is also retarded so the thought of admin loading/unloading your gun after a dryfire session is something unheard of. Dryfire to /k/ is like physical exercise to /v/ so I get why most of you don't get it.

It's not necessary. But you have to remember that Glock owners have to decock by pulling the trigger before they take it apart.

The number of glock owners that have put a hole into their home because they skipped part of the unloading process is not 0.

Hey now, buddy. I'll have you know that my TriStar S-120 (CZ 75b clone) has eaten through over 8,000 rounds of shitty Tula 9mm with the one and only hiccup involving the use of a cheapo promag.

Out of all the Turkish stuff on the market, TriStar and SAR have decent CZ clones. They don't have the most resilient paint (I carried that S-120 every day for 3 years until replacing it with a 10mm Tanfoglio), but they are pretty damn reliable for a $350 brand-new CZ clone with 2 mags.

>>
>>34497915
NO. You did not watch the video. The guy in the video IS NOT suggesting that you EVER deliberately discharge your gun into the clearing bucket.
>>
>>34498236
To be fair, it's possible for ejectors to strike primers.
>>
The IDEA of a clearing bucket is a sound one. Police, military, and private businesses have them (or rather weapons clearing stations) so in case a gun NDs or ADs during inspection, it has a place to go to safely. It's not a matter of "hur discipline", it's a matter of redundant safety. Firearms that have no safety or decocker or has known malfunctions should especially be cleared in these things if there are absolutely no safe directions the gun can be pointed at (like if you live in an apartment or something)

Yankee is dumb click bait shit most of the time, but this particular idea does have merit, and people do shit on him becuase he deliberately shoots into one as an example and thinks it is what he is advocating people do to clear their guns.
>>
>>34496510
Clearing buckets offer a good source of safety redundancy, of which I am a fan, but it's not strictly necessary,, and certainly not in every room in your house. Futher, I would prefer a more properly designed on to just a bucket of sand, but that's better than nothing.

As for YM, he's a big fan of the "muh revolvers are more reliable" meme and within that fuddlore would rather carry a meme gun than something proven like a Smith. He's funny, and I like his channel, but he doesn't always know what he's talking about.
>>
>>34496510
As a normal person? Fuck no lulz.

Clearing buckets is a military thing. I used to have to clear guys in the Marines because I was the COG. Just unload the fucking thing.

>I'm a grown-ass man
>>
>>34496510

>I'm pretty new to guns and stumbled upon this guy's videos on Youtube
Stop watching that and clear your browser history asap.
>>
>>34502666
>Why not just get a 75?
Because a new one costs $685 at the cheapest nearby LGS (I've never seen more than 2 CZs in stock at one time there anyway) and I already have 2 used ones but they're more finicky with ammo and they can't go through as many rounds of steelcased without FTF or FTE, even with the exact same mec-gar mags.

>Why is your life only worth $350?
Lots of people carry Glocks, and those can be bought for only $50 more.

In that case, everybody who doesn't carry a million dollar gold-plated Gaddafi-special Hi Power is obviously suicidal. My S-120 works better than my other CZs and is perfectly fine for reliably shooting bullets at things, that's all I need from a CC gun.

>Why did you put CZ branded grips on a sandnigger gun?
Because they CZ grips are more comfy. It now has a rubber hogue grip on it and it's super comfy now. The plastic TriStar grips aren't bad but they just feel kinda flimsy so I felt obligated to replace them. What about those people who put magpul handguards on their AKs? Is that any different?

And for the record, Turkey isn't necessarily a place of "sandniggers", they're more like tan-skinned southern Slavs who coincidentally are mostly Muslim. I've been there before with my Caucasian family of 4 and we all had a good time and none of the locals gave is any trouble at all. Most were actually delighted to see Americans, although they still think Americans dress in bright contrasting colors like in 80's hip-hop videos.

France, however, is a really shitty place and everyone there thinks you're an asshole as soon as they find out you're a burger "just like all the other stupid fat Americans who act like they rule the world".

>>
>>34496565
i find it easiest to just carry my CCW in a clearing bucket with sand for maximum safety and comfort
>>
>>34503745
No, NDs happen when you fail to respect the gun and improperly handle it. Nothing wrong with loading and unloading, except that chambered rounds really shouldn't be re-chambered more than a very small handful of times.

Potentially discharging a weapon in a house in a non-defense scenario for the purpose of "clearing" is more negligent than having good sense about the status of your weapon and knowing how to safely inspect for it. Always visually inspect the chamber. Always always always always. A loaded round isn't going to quantum tunnel its way into the chamber after you've unloaded the gun and visually inspected the chamber to confirm it's empty.

To be completely honest, this clearing bucket seems like it would become a training crutch that will make you MORE nonchalant about visually inspecting the chamber. "Oh it's okay guys, I have a bucket full of sand" is not a valid fucking excuse. It's a liability and instills into your mind that it's TOTALLY FINE to pull the trigger on a weapon that you aren't sure is loaded or unloaded. There should be no uncertainty in this. It's the easiest thing to inspect.

This. Another great factor is that while carrying a bucket of sand, most people aren't going to presume that you're also carrying a weapon (unless they're a Glockfag themselves). This further aids in deep concealment, as they'll treat you as preoccupied and unarmed, giving you a distinct advantage.

I keep one in every room, closet, and cabinet in my house.

You can never be too sure. I even keep a sealed one on my bed for when I'm sleeping.

We all know the safest way to shoot your gun in your suburbia household is to have a clearing sand bag pill box. That way when the cops get called on you for shooting a gun in city limits you can show them you were just making sure your defensive fortifications were working properly.
